More metro failure

I don't find fault with Tony Lee. Hell, I make those kinds of mistakes all the time. But how did someone else not catch this?

They obviously meant the word "month" and not "week". I personally don't know anyone who works 76 hours a week and if they do, it would sort of suck to have all of that go just towards having a place to live.

It is a fact that people in non-metro areas have to work 76 hours - nearly 2 full work weeks - a month just to be able to pay their rent.

I won't post any erotica, but how about a haiku?

It is very true,
Small packages bring good things,
Midget for Christmas

Aha, I really had no idea where they were going with that (and jumping from "dollars per hours" to "hours worked per week/month/whatever" to afford rent in the same sentance just made no sense anyway.)

I'm still fond of the Metro article that said that a body found in Franklin Park was a "Grizzley sight."

Well, if they have to work at 76 hour, whereas I only need to earn $23 an hour (honestly? that little? where ARE these cheap 2 bedroom apartments?)... why, I do believe I will continue to look down my nose at those silly suburbanites and feel smug in my urban-dwelling superiority!

Sure, it's a typo, but HEY, I will accept anything that validates my continued asshole-ish antics. :D

I had a 2-bedroom on Quint Ave. in Allston for a while, all to myself. Of course, one of the bedrooms was really tiny and so it mostly served as a mini-office. But I was in a good position--no debt, few expenses besides the apartment and associated bills, etc.

I'm not sure if he means week or month, or if it's just a bad lead. $23-per-hour puts things in perspective, but 76 hours-per-[time period]? At what rate? $23?

The whole thing is poorly worded.

Its can't mean week, that wouldn't make any sense. Who would need to work 76 hours per week? Nobody works that much. Plus, I'm aware of this report (since we do alot of housing research here at UMass) and the finding is that people need to work nearly two weeks a month just to make enough money to pay their monthly rent.

Its both a typo and a poorly structured sentence.

Ugh.

How many hours a week covers just your rent? Does half or more of your monthly income go just for your own rent? For many people, it does, and that, in part, has fueled the housing market crisis. People have no monthly cushion when rent is over half of their income.

76 hours a month might be accurate if they're stating "Nearly half of the average person's wages in Massachusetts go to rent." 76 hours per week could simply be hyperbole.
