My love for the band

Wow... what can I say? No words can do Arch enemy any justice, the guitar riffs, drum beats. They do it all so well.
man i would kill to meet Angela. She is a legend (out for blood(lol))
They came to australia 2 years ago, and i wasn't into metal back then. My boyfriend gave me a cd with smoe random DM bands and Arch enemy was the one i insantly fell in love with.
Angela is so beautiful, and so talented. Ive spent months learning how to sing like her and i think i've gotten ok aat it. But I donh't know anyone who would play in a band with me. So it sucks hell bad
it's great that Chris is back with the band again, Michael would have missed him i bet

Wish i was a Dm artist...that sure would be swell..
haha

Return

Hey all,
Just wanted to let everyone know, I switched my LJ screen name, and rejoined the community.

I went to the 11/18 Boulder show, and it was a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE. Just to give everyone an idea of how close I was to the stage, I was LEANING ON ANGELA GOSSOW'S FUCKING MONITER!. Sharlee D'Angelo whipped me in the face with his hair every time he head banged. By the end of the night I had scored a set list (WHICH Michael Amott handed to me), and shook Daniel Erlandsson's hand (good full grip hand shake and eye contact, I might add). Badass first concert, it was.

Its good to be back on this community.
-Ried

A Metallergist in training under Arch Enemy

Hallo Everyone,
I'm rather new to Metal in general. My friends are training me in the ways of Metallergy. Anyhow, though I haven't heard much, Arch Enemy is a sheer untouchably brilliant band. I'm going to my first concert next week, which happens to be the Arch Enemy Nov. 16 show in Denver. I can't friggin' WAIT to see them live. Michael and Christopher are geniuses, Angela is as beautiful as she is a violent singer, and (I play drums myself, so I have knowledge to back this statement) Daniel is an absolute machine. Better than Jason Bittner, better than Joey Jordison (though, that isn't hard these days). By far, Arch Enemy is one of the best bands I know of.
-Ried

Hello everyone, I am new to this community. I am a big fan of melodic
death metal, and Arch Enemy are definetly one of my favorites. Ever
since his work in Carcass I have been a fan of Michael Amott's guitar
playing. Being a guitar player myself, his melody and technicality step
out to me. I am 17 and I love lots of different kinds of music. I am
becoming a bigger and bigger fan of melodic death metal all the time.
My favorite bands include At the Gates, Carcass, Megadeth, Testament,
DRI, Black Flag, Jeff Beck, IRON MAIDEN, Kyuss, old AFI, Helloween, Bad
Brains, Rocket From the Tombs, and others. I unfortunetly don't own any
actual Arch Enemy albums, I just downloaded a bunch off of my friend's
computer, but I am constantly broke. Once I get a job and money, what
album would you people suggest I buy first?

Hey all! I'm new to this community. I've been a fan of Arch Enemy for quite awhile now. Christopher is my favorite guitarist. I absolutely adore him. Daniel is also my favorite drummer.

Also has anyone had a chance to hear any of Chris' other band, Armageddon? I just recently got the cd "Three" (It was the only one I could find on the website where I buy most of my cds.) Anyways, it's amazing! I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard it.

Hello everyone. I'm the new moderator for this community, because Morbius 72 didn't want to be one anymore, so he bestowed upon me this community. I'd like to see this community more active than it is, I guess. Granted, there isn't an awful lot going on with Arch Enemy at the moment. Anyone with pictures is welcome to post them and stuff. This is my first time moderating anything, so I'm abit clueless. If you need me, you can add me here or IM me at urmyarchenemy. Thanks!

Updates from the United States and Canada

Update from the road in the US...

Hey, what's up people?

We've been out here on the road in the US on this Cradle Of Filth/Arch Enemy/Bleeding Through/Himsa package for a little over 2 weeks now and everything is going very well...great shows and good times! The tour is running very smoothly -- and we are getting along great with everybody on the tour...so no dirt there! The shows have all been really cool -- no bad ones so far...we are keeping our fingers crossed that it'll stay that way too, ha-ha... Seriously, we have a great crew team and the coolest bus driver, so we are basically just enjoying the ride and playing our brand of PURE FUCKING METAL!

I have to say that we are very pleased to be back on the road here in the US - it feels fucking great! We are grateful to the US Arch Enemy fans for their patience and support...you guys and girls rule!

The other day we were in New Orleans - a first for Arch Enemy there! We were looking forward to it and it was as good as we hoped it would be...there was some intense voodoo metal vibes floating around! :-)

2 nights ago we played in Dallas TX, and we were hanging out with John Perez from Texas Doom gods Solitude Aeturnus - he gave us copies of the reprint of the their debut album...so we are ready for any rainy gray days that might lie ahead of us now!

Other stuff we've been playing on the bus is Six Feet Under's AC/DC tribute CD - that's our pre-show warm up disc right now! I could not believe that thing the first time I heard it! SFU bass player Terry Butler came out to the Orlando show and hooked us up, cheers man!

Last night we played Austin TX, and we had the craziest crowd so far on the tour - we need to come back to Austin and play a headline show sometime soon...that show was probably my favourite so far!

Today is a day off, so it's laundry time...my stage clothes stink like ********.......Aaahhh, the glamourus world of rock'n'roll!

I will be back with more updates from the road, sooner or later...!

Michael Amott

We are currently in freezing Edmonton, Canada…it took us 17 hours to drive from Vancouver to here…we drove through the mountains and there was really nothing else but ice and snow…and then some more ice and snow! We saw some beautiful nature, and some really cool wildlife like eagles and a ram crossing the road - very impressive for us Swedes! :-)
The shows have been going extremely well on this tour, it's been a lot of fun! And I must say that we are slightly surprised and totally honoured that Cradle Of Filth's fanbase has taken to us so well! We played Vancouver for the first time ever 2 days ago and that was really a killer show, great crowd...we'll be back!!!
In San Francisco we met up with Steve Smyth (ex-Testament now in Nevermore) and hung out for a while before we hit the stage at the Fillmore (wow, lots of history in that venue...!). In Seattle we met up with the rest of the Nevermore dudes, the guys from our favourite band were in great shape and spirit! Can't wait for their next album...I am sure it'll be killer!
Talking of new stuff, we have been able to write some new riffs for the next Arch Enemy studio opus while on the road- well, I don't wanna hype this too much...but these are some of the coolest, melodic, angriest and tech riffs I have heard in long time! Ha!
We will spend a couple of weeks off with our families and friends back home over the holidays (I am sure you will grant us that?).
In the new year we are setting up the recording equipment in our "Dungeon Of Steel" rehearsal studio and start the pre-production of the new album - we are very much looking forward to getting our teeth sunk into this new material...2005 is going to be a good year!!! To end this report I would like to say a BIG thank you to all our fans and friends that have supported us on this tour...!!!

Michael Amott

Interview with Angela Gossow

(From Bravewords.com)

ARCH ENEMY

The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Blades

By Carl Begai

It's been over a year since the release of Arch Enemy's last album, Anthems Of Rebellion, and their fans could do with an infusion of new music. They'll have to wait a while yet, however, as the band is going back out onto the road in North America until the end of 2004.

But the Dead Eyes See No Future EP is a decent enough stopgap effort. Originally made solely for the Japanese market, it features the title track (taken from Anthems), a few live tracks, and newly recorded cover versions of Megadeth's 'Symphony Of Destruction', Manowar's 'Kill With Power' and the Carcass classic 'Incarnated Solvent Abuse'. BW&BK hooked up with singer Angela Gossow during an unusual stretch of downtime for the band to discuss the EP, the upcoming road trip, and the next album, which is currently being written and promises to be much more than Anthems Of Rebellion Part II.

First things first, though. As Arch Enemy fans will remember, the band blew off a North American tour with Machine Head this past spring after only a few days on the road. They didn't offer an explanation for ditching the tour, leaving fans to speculate on internal strife. In fact, unfounded reports circulated that Gossow had been given the boot. Shots were taken by the Machine Head camp via an amusing albeit sarcastic message on their website claiming Gossow had to return home after breaking a nail. Asked to comment on the situation, Gossow says it was a personal matter that took precedence over the tour.

"There was a family matter that had to be attended to and we didn't see the need to publicize it," says Gossow. "We saw the Machine Head letter, and I actually thought it was quite funny, but we didn't respond to it because there was the chance that it would turn into this childish war of words through the press. We just tried to be very professional about the whole thing, because when there's a situation dealing with family you don't trivialize it with crap like that. We felt bad for the fans, of course, but it was more important that we were at home than on the road."

On to Dead Eyes See No Future, an EP that was originally meant to be one of those Japan-only releases that piss off the majority of Westerners because it contained exclusive material. A lot of times, bonus material for the Japanese market is little more than leftover D-grade material slapped onto CD to shut the Eastern market label people up, but in this particular case Arch Enemy's American and European label Century Media saw the potential in it.

"They approached us and asked us if we wanted to release the EP everywhere else before everybody downloads it for free from the internet," laughs Gossow. "So, of course we went for it because it did make sense, and the material is quite good. Doing the cover versions was fun; I didn't know 'Kill With Power' was so metal (laughs)."

Ouch. If Joey DeMaio were dead he'd be turning in his grave.

"The original really rocks and no one can top it because Manowar wrote it," Gossow says, explaining her thinking before the Manowar camp decides to sue her for slander. "But back then they didn't have the great recording facilities like we do today, so of course our version sounds bigger. It's funny, though; you can take any Manowar song and make a death metal song out of it. We didn't really have to re-write anything to make it fit Arch Enemy. Doing the Carcass song was my idea because, as you know, I'm a big Carcass fan. It fits Arch Enemy really well, and it was just a fun thing to do. It's a tribute to Carcass because it doesn't look like they'll be coming back any time soon."

With regards to a new album, Arch Enemy has been off the road and writing new material since June. The plan is to do the North American tour with Cradle Of Filth, come home and go directly into the studio.

"Yeah, we're getting quite bored with our current set. We're actually writing like maniacs at the moment because we really want to get back into the studio. We're doing the tour followed by the whole Christmas and New Year thing. We'll spend a month trying to lose all the weight from stuffing our faces over the holidays (laughs), and then we'll go into the studio. I'm not sure when we'll go in because we have to demo stuff before we do, so I think it'll be around March when we start recording. We'll probably shoot for a summer release because that would mean we could play the festivals."

And the release of the new Spiritual Beggars album - guitarist Michael Amott's other band - isn't going to wreak havoc with Arch Enemy's schedule?

"I think that album comes towards the end of this year, but Michael's not alone in that band so I think he'll shift a lot of the promotional work to the other guys. I'm not sure about a Spiritual Beggars tour, but the only big thing they have planned is for Japan, and that's only a week. If they do anything for Europe or America I think it will be after Arch Enemy finishes recording because there will be a gap anyway as we finalize the artwork for the CD and all that. We'll be so burnt out on Arch Enemy by that point that Michael will want to get away to do Spiritual Beggars for a while."

As for what the new material sounds like...

"Well, we're kind of bored with the simplicity of the last album," says Gossow. "We're writing lots of stuff that nobody else can play. It's super complicated stuff, and at the moment we're kind of worried that it's too much because the stuff we've written up to this point isn't easy to digest. The songs are really technical; there are a hell of a lot of solos. I think what we're going to do is mix it up with some lighter tunes. After Wages Of Sin we had a lot of the hardcore technical people as fans, and with Anthems we gained a lot of more mainstream fans that come from a different angle. We basically want to get them all together for the next album, turn the people who are into the more simple stuff into true metal fans (laughs)."

So, the idea is to stifle the bitching and complaining from the longtime fans about Anthems Of Rebellion having been too soft.

"People always bitch and complain no matter what you do; you just have to check Blabbermouth (laughs). It doesn't matter which band it is, someone will always find something to complain about. For us it's important that we have fun playing the music for the record and live on stage, and we're really psyched at the moment."

Rest assured, fans don't have to worry about Gossow trying her hand at clean vocals on the new album.

"Yeah, I think that's everyone's worst nightmare," she laughs. "I've heard a lot of death metal bands recently where the vocalist is trying out singing, and it sounds really boring and horrible. Arch Enemy is a full-on metal band and that's not going to change."
