Title: Wanderer from His Memories
Author: SilverCats
Status: Completed
Length: 17 (short) chapters
Category: Fruits Basket
Genre: General/romance
Summary: a girl who wandered her whole life...a picture on hatori's desk...who is the girl in the picture, really? she has a secret, but what happens when she meets some people in the mall?
Chapter One: Her secret, his secrets
She was a wanderer.
She always had been one, and as far as she knew, she always would be one.
She was used to it by now-actually, she much preferred to be on her own. All he life she had been moved from one place to another, and now she was at an orphanage, on the edge of a small town by the sea. Many women had raised her, in many locations, where everyone instinctively felt a difference about her. The difference that she tried to hide. So far, no one knew her secret, but most people could sense something about her, and those who couldn’t were warned away by their other friends. It was this secret that she hid that set her apart from others, this secret that made her keep to herself. Her secret-
“Kaori Sohma, get down here now!”
Ugh. They’d found her again. Brushing back her dark, almost black hair from her face, she climbed down from her perch on a cliff, her blue eyes hardening as the sun rose.
Hatori Sohma looked at the picture in the wooden frame. She was so small…so tiny. Where was she now?
A knock on the door startled him, and Ayame walked in. Hatori put the picture face down on his desk, and swiveled his chair to face his friend. “Who’s that?” Ayame asked, tracing the design on the carved wooden frame before moving to pick up the picture. Hatori placed his hand forcefully on the picture, and Ayame withdrew his hand, forcing himself not to ask about the unknown picture. “Ha’ri, you should really go home now. Shii-san would have come too, but he has a deadline to make.”
Hatori sighed, and closed the files that lie open on his desk, shrugging out of his lab coat and hanging it on a hook by the door. He picked up his bag and glanced around. “I’m ready to leave,” he said, and followed Ayame out the door before locking his office. They walked in silence until Ayame’s unsatisfied curiosity got the better of him.
“Ha’ri, who was that picture of?” Hatori, startled from his thoughts, looked at his silver haired friend. “A girl…a girl I had the luck to know for a little while.” Ayame didn’t press further, although that bit of information didn’t help him any more, in fact it made him more curious, and Hatori offered no more information about the mysterious photograph.
The conversation between them died, and was replaced with a comfortable silence.
A/N: so, you like? Well, que sera sera…as Shii-san says.

Chapter 1: Murphy’s Law and Haa-san
“Yuki!” “Yuki-kun!” with a sigh, Yuki stood and dusted himself off. He had been working in his garden all morning, but now someone-several someones- were looking for him. A glance at his watch told him that it was later than he had thought-past noon, and if he didn’t hurry he’d be late.
Back at Shigure’s house Momiji waited impatiently. ‘Where is Yuki?’ he wondered, but almost as soon as he thought that, Yuki walked out of the woods.
“Hey Yuki, you’re gonna be late!”
Yuki nodded, but by the time that he had gotten changed and was ready to go, Tohru, Kyo, Ayame, Shigure, Kisa, Hiro, and Haru had each told him (some nicer than others) that he was going to be late more than once. When Hatori and Ritsu arrived, everyone piled into Hatori and Shigure’s cars and drove to the high school.
Welcome to the 17th Annual Science Fair! Read a banner strung across the entrance, and everyone piled out of the cars.
Ayame asked enthusiastically, “Now Yuki, where is your science project? Is it simply spectacular, or outstandingly extraordinary? Or perhaps-”
“Would you keep it down? People are starting to stare!” Yuki prayed silently that nothing would happen, and led them to the gym where his project was set up.
But we all know that his prayer would go unheeded, because then what would be the point of this fic?
Yuki’s project was in a corner, and he had just finished setting it up when he was called away by a boy who had a question for the class president.
“Get back here!” Kyo was already fed up with Momiji’s antics, and it was only one in the afternoon. He chased the hyper rabbit past the card table upon which Yuki’s project sat, but skidded to a stop as a clank reached him.
“oh, snap…” he picked up the small cylinder that has fallen off of the invention and stuck it back on, where it stuck out at a strange angle, but: “oh well, the stupid rat’ll fix it when he gets back…”
Unfortunately, poor preoccupied Yuki didn’t notice, and Kyo was too busy sulking to remember, not that he’d talk to the rat if he wasn’t, so when Hatori asked Yuki for a demonstration, Yuki agreed with no second thoughts. “What is it, Yuki-kun?” Tohru asked innocently, and Yuki replied with a smile, “It measures sound waves in the immediate vicinity, by…” he went off on a tangent that was, in fact, an explanation, but it got Tohru lost anyway.
“Ok, ok just get on with it.” Kyo grumbled-despite himself he had gotten closer to hear the explanation, and-not that he’d ever admit it, but- he was actually, sort of, intrigued. Yuki rolled his eyes and pressed a button.
Sparks flew and everyone shut their eyes against the light. When Tohru opened her eyes, she saw Yuki cursing a “damn rat”
“Yuki-kun, what-”
Yuki faced her furious, “I’m not Yuki!” he exclaimed, spinning to face Kyo. “He’s-” He broke off. Kyo was looking around bewilderedly.
“What the bloody?” Kyo dusted himself off, but when he started talking, it was with Yuki’s precise tone, but his voice. “My experiment seems to have gone awry. It appears to have switched my and Kyo’s bodies.”
Haru and Kisa watched with wide eyes as Tohru looked from one boy to the other. Ayame and Shigure were leaning on one another, laughing hysterically, their fists shoved in their mouths in a futile attempt to remain silent.
And Hatori knocked his head against the cinderblock gym wall. Trust his cousins to create chaos even at such a place as the school science fair.
What was he going to tell Akito?
A/N- so, how was it? Tell me, tell me…I have such fun thinking this one out. Poor Tori-san, he’s the only sane one there…Yuki too, but he got them into this mess….
And I wasn’t joking, I DO own a chainsaw…I won it in a raffle…don’t ask why they were raffling off a really nice chainsaw, or why I entered the raffle. That is the only thing I’ve ever won in a raffle…hehe trust me to win first prize in a raffle for a chainsaw…. no I’m not insane…well, maybe just slightly. And if you want to read some other good fanfics, obviously read my other (completed) fanfic, and my good friend gigimardi ‘s work. AND remember kiddies, REVIEW! Mwahahahaha! -

Chapter 1: Long Silent Memories
“No! Don’t do it!”
“Not her, please, Akito, not her!”
“Silence! I’ll do what I please!”
“No! Noooo….”
She squeezed her eyes shut, her throat choking in misery…
…and opened them, looking at the worn book clutched in her hands. How could she ever have put it up here? She wondered, watching dust motes swirling the breeze that came sliding under the crack in the attic window. Well, whatever she had thought, she was putting the book back on her shelf when she got home. It had spent enough years in storage.
“Hey Demi, what’d ya find in your old high school stuff?” Demi paused on the bottom stair, having completely forgotten her younger sister was at home. Aerin stood up to her elbows in dish soap bubbles, watching her sister come down the stairs.
“you sure spent enough time up there, it’s way past noon already. Mom went out to run errands, but she trusts that you’re a big enough girl to look out for yourself.” Demi flicked water at Aerin and held up the book.
“just an old book from when I was a junior…”
“like me!”
Demi grinned as she set the book on the table. “yeah, I’m getting old, so kill me.”
Grabbing her coat and purse, she called, “I have to meet some co-workers at Anita’s Coffee Shop for an informal meeting, I’ll be back in an hour or so,” before heading out the door.
As she turned the key in the ignition of her car, she realized just how long it had been. “…years…I’m out of college, and moving into my own house…I wonder if they have forgotten…” but she soon had other things on her mind as she had to pay attention to the meeting.
“hmmm…” Aerin hung the towel back on it’s hook. “I wonder what Demi found…I haven’t ever seen it…” she slowly opened the old book, and bent over its pages.
The house was silent when Demi got home. “Hello, mom? Aerin?” Demi’s mom called from her office, “In here, Demi,” but when Demi poked her head into the room, her mother asked, “Have you seen Aerin?”
Demi began to say, “I haven’t seen her, isn’t she here?” when she saw her book-open-on the kitchen floor. “hold on a sec…” she picked it up, and to her surprise, it was open to the last page.
And the last page was no longer blank. The top of the page read, “Eight years later…”
“Oh mom, I remember- she’s spending the day with a friend, then I’m picking her up for a girl’s night at my house. Don’t worry about us if you don’t get a call. She’ll be back before school begins.”
She left the house again before her mother could protest, and the words, “But that’s-!” were only heard by the shutting door.
When Demi reached her apartment, she locked the door and dumped her bag, keys, and jacket on a chair by the kitchen table.
The book fell open to the last page…
…and the house became silent.
a/n- so are you confused yet? This story, so far, has absolutely NOTHING to do with Fruits Basket, but I hope that you don’t mind, cause it will, next chapter I promise. This was just to grab your attention, and set the mood, explain, etc. hopefully you’ll stick around until then.
