Return Post of Doom
I was gonna make my return a massively huge meme-post, with a whole lot of stuff about Doctor Who and Torchwood as well, but I kept not doing any memes and I still have them stored up in a file for memedrop posts when I feel more like it... but I wanted to talk about manga, because I said when I made this journal that that's what I was going to do, and I haven't been, and I want to. And I feel like starting now, so I'm gonna post some reactions to the latest chapters of a few things. (Spoilers (ranging from mildly to very, very big secret-revealing spoilery) for Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles 201, One Piece 518, Naruto 420 and Bleach 329 under their respective cuts.) And there will be DW/TW stuff as well, at some point. Oh, I was going to talk about Manifest, too, but... maybe later. ( Tsubasa and the Twist We Probably Should Have Seen Coming ) ( Luffy and the Amazons ) ( Naruto and then Bleach under here, and I have no clue why the fourth cut isn't showing up ) Also, Hatsune Miku singing "Still Alive" in Japanese is still the cutest thing ever. |

Via hrothgar1: When you see this, post in your own journal with your favorite quote from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or the Inigo Montoya speech. Vizzini: HE DIDN'T FALL? INCONCEIVABLE. Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. or Vizzini: ... You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

My feet are calloused from walking on the beach
Another wave of depression this day. God, I'm just ... not as good as I could be. Not as good as other people. I don't know. This happens periodically even though my antidepressant medication is working really well for me. I just get the blues a lot and sit around thinking about what a wanker I am. We're still at the beach and I think the nearby Air Force base is having a practice day or something because helicopters keep flying past. Gah, I'm just ... such a wanker, you know. I suck. God, when I get like this feel like I don't have a shread of self-esteem. Usually I think I have talent - at least I hope so - a soul, something to say; right now I'm sure I don't. I don't want to list all the things that are wrong with me because it's a very long list. I've just been annoying people so much, being so idiotic. I feel guilty for publishing this, too. I don't really need reassurance or anything. I don't want to burden y'all. I'll have a walk on the beach, take a shower; maybe have a conversation with Isaac or go shopping; I'll be alright. I wish I was delusional enough to believe that I could get rid of these little spells by accomplishing more or something, but that never works. I know that. I've got a better chance of getting there by changing my dosage. But you know, I'm not sure that I want to get rid of these spells. As long as they don't get out of control ... I think they might have some purpose. Or maybe I'm just a masochist. |

Well, I wrote a recap to the first episode of Jeeves & Wooster. (You can watch it here, but you didn't hear this from me.) I don't know why I did, but nevertheless you can read it. ( Let the Meddling begin! ) |

*boggles* US debt clock runs out of digits The US government's debts have ballooned so badly the National Debt Clock in New York has run out of digits to record the spiralling figure. The digital counter marks the national debt level, but when that passed the $10 trillion point last month, the sign could not display the full amount. The board was erected to highlight the $2.7 trillion level of debt in 1989. |

Respective heights of British Comedians
Check out the heights of the following British comedians (I believe all are English?): Robinson, Tony 5'4" Jones, Terry 5'8" Palin, Michael 5'10" Atkinson, Rowan 5'11" Idle, Eric 6'1" Chapman, Graham 6'2" Laurie, Hugh 6'2.5" Fry, Stephen 6'4.5" Cleese, John 6'5" Now, I understand that in the UK, the average height is about an inch taller than in America, but still, this group is decidedly above average in height. Moreover, of these, three went to Oxford, and five went to Cambridge, so you know their brains are above-average as well. I'm just saying, for some reason there's a correlation between tallness and funniness if you're English and went to Oxford or Cambridge. |

This is Jack's complete lack of surprise. After Bailout, AIG Execs Head to California Resort Less than a week after the federal government committed $85 billion to bail out AIG, executives of the giant AIG insurance company headed for a week-long retreat at a luxury resort and spa, the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, California, Congressional investigators revealed today. AIG documents obtained by Waxman's investigators show the company paid more than $440,000 for the retreat, including nearly $200,000 for rooms, $150,000 for meals and $23,000 in spa charges. |

Some art and another poem
Feels like I haven't posted enough regular art lately. I've been sketching but not finishing anything. Well, here's something old, and a W.I.P. ( Old Portrait ) ( Current W.I.P. ) ( New sonnet )

Gimme some recommendations. Books, movies, TV shows, whatever. I need new stuff to consume. I'm finally feeling better mentally and I want to enjoy myself. |

Oh shit, our entry for BOBCATSSS 2009 has been accepted. But SeriousGirl is pregnant now (with twins OMG!) and will probably be near delivery when the conference takes place. So I would have to go alone, which is no fun for me. :((( I have to ask our prof if anyone else from our university is going. (I know he is going to go, which is even worse, because he's good looking and intelligent and nice) Oh well, not going would save me a lot of work. I am undecided. |
