About MASK
MASK is the coming together of two games that explore two different takes on a very similar genre. While Kabuki Arc focuses on the real world's yakuza, Zodiak takes a paranormal approach to the triads. Because of their nature and the breeding of one from another, to an extent, it was thought best that the two worlds come together as one and govern themselves under a similar rules structure, since they already shared many of the same qualities already.
One such quality is the focus on writing. Both games are considered writing communities, and the administration, as well as the players, seek to push that limit to the extreme.
About the COMMUNITY
This community is a crossroads between both worlds -- where the supernatural meets the natural. While nothing that occurs on this community is actually considered as "real" action between any two characters or muses within the mutual games, what does occur here is interaction on an "uber" level -- one that is without limitations, but does not actually apply to the games.
Players and muses alike are allowed to post here, but anyone is welcome to comment on the posts.
ABOUT THE GAMES
 Kabuki Arc is a world governed by the crime industry in Asia.
Taking place predominately in Tokyo, Japan -- Yakuza, Triads, prostitutes, drug lords, sleazy politicians, and even innocent civilians make up this huge story that will end only when you decide to -- or when your character stumbles into Fate's unfortunate path.
Harsh, real, and dirty like the world we live in, Kabuki Arc encourages players to focus on the grime of reality -- one that lacks the polished veneer of fantasy; of mystism; of the supernatural.
Real life as we know it, the crude surface of humanity is an ubiquitous theme that governs this neverending epic -- an epic that your creativity can play a huge role in.
Enter our world...
 Zodiak, a world inspired by both a comic and a game, is where the supernatural twists and twines itself into the workings of organized crime. This game, though encouraging in depth characters and well developed writing, allows the use of supernatural characters and paranormal situations to give an even greater reach to the creative levels it rises and falls to. Characters, even if they are not of this world, are still encouraged to be as natural and realistic as possible. Strict anime roleplaying is not encouraged here. Even though it is not one hundred percent real, it's still more based in real life than it is in anything else.
Monsters can be human too, after all.
Set in Hong Kong with fictional triads and a plethora of character opportunities ranging from an in game video game called Dragon Quest to attempting to usurp the power of a Dragonhead, the possibilities are endless in this almost completely freeform world.

HISTORY
Kabuki Arc's earliest incarnation -- "Masquerade" -- was purely conceptual, and came to life in January of 2003 on a BBS. At first, the game began with a primary focus on one organization. In its earliest times, Kabuki Arc dabbled in White Wolf worlds -- giving characters allowances for Vampire: The Masquerade, Changeling: The Dreaming, and various other supernatural elements.
Soon, the game began to move in a different direction. Moving onto a LiveJournal community in April 2003, it cycled into its second era, "Dragon Rising". The game began to develop more complex organizations as its resources grew.
In June 2003, Kabuki Arc went on its first hiatus and came back to life in April 2004 with "Phoenix Reigning" -- following an intense redevelopment that brought about a resource website heavy with game settings, organizational and organized crime information, and more. The organizations had expanded to include 3 Yakuza organizations, 2 Triad organizations, 2 Mafia organizations, 1 law enforcement group, 1 controlled celebrity group, and dozens of affiliates.
With a high of over 60 characters and over 30 players, the game exploded with activity across the board. Kabuki Arc averaged about 6 scenes per weekday and 13 scenes per weekend.
In September 2004, Zodiak came to life -- pulling resources, characters, storylines, and players from Kabuki Arc. When the game's organizational system collapsed, Kabuki Arc shut its doors for redevelopment.
Zodiak, armed with a world developed for a comic book format, was originally meant to be a group to bring an older RP back together, but it grew far beyond what anyone forsaw. Half of its active player base coming from Kabuki Arc, the other half from ex-Improfanfic members as well as other random stragglers on the internet, the game picked up severe intensity and stood, at the turn of November, with sixty some odd characters and twenty-seven players and still continues to grow. With a diversified playerbase and a looseness that the nature of Kabuki cannot allow, Zodiak stands as a creative free-for-all for any and all involved.
With a team of five storytellers rebuilding it from the skeleton out, Kabuki is scheduled for relaunch in mid-November. With seven members on administration across the board, Kabuki Arc has joined hands with Zodiak as sister games within the massive world of MASK. Where Zodiak offers a supernatural twist to organized crime, Kabuki Arc is the grisly, harsh, every-day life of reality. What one game lacks, the other can satisfy.
