Yes, there is a competition...

Download a picture to do with Yellow Submarine and make it hilarious! You can add text, arrows, speech balloons... whatever you like! Or, you can post to this journal with your chosen picture and the rest of the joke (eg, what the characters are saying, or a caption) outside the picture. Whoever makes the most wet-your-underwear funny picture gets at least one icon of their favourite Yellow Submarine character. (You have to tell me what size and type it should be; for example, if you want and need a new userpic, it must be 100 x 100 and can be a JPG file.) Also, there may be at least one prize if you are extremely humorous, but not the winner. The competition closes on the 2nd of December, 2007, GMT+10:00, so you'd better do something very funny...

Do you remember when I asked other LiveJournal communities for icons of Paul McCartney as a character from Yellow Subamrine? I wanted to use one as my userpic. I grew sick of waiting for one so I created at least 14 pictures of Paul looking pretty -- Paul the character from Yellow Submarine, of course. Here they are:

Why another Beatles community on LJ?:
We started this community because we love the intelligent discussions on johnheartpaul but we wanted there to be a place where we could discuss all the Beatles.

What's a "Beatle Couch?":
We're a bunch of friends just hanging out on a couch talking about the Beatles. And sometimes, we may "put a Beatle on the couch."

What do we talk about here?:

Dear Beatles Collectors,

As my mother is cleaning out our attic, she has uncovered some of her Beatles memorabilia dating from her teenage years. She has asked me to advertise for sale two booklets, as described below.

The first is entitled "The Beatles" and is copyrighted by Highlight Corp., 1964. She has her name neatly written in ink on the first page.

The second is entitled "Beatles (U.S.A.) Ltd." and is copyrighted by Souvenir Publishing & Distributing Co., 1965. She purchased this at the Beatles concert in Chicago's White Sox Park in 1965. This information is neatly written in ink inside the front cover.

I got bored and decided to try to make some Beatles dolls. John's look is inspired by a poster I have of The Beatles. Paul is just, well, Paul. George's look is inspired by some of the crazy, loud-ass outfits he used to wear. Ringo is...Ringo. He's cute :) I think I could do a better job on George's face. Name some ways that the Beatles have enhanced your life, or had a (positive?) impact on a situation, or what have you.

1. The Beatles - all members unto themselves, really - have enabled me to celebrate days that probably would have otherwise gone to waste and ended in a dull manner. For example, I celebrated the anniversary of the White Album. Days that are about something that I have made literally my own are so amazing.
2. They have all made me a more mature and appreciative person. As bizarre as it may or may not sound, when I am going through something overwhelming, it seems like I end up running across a Beatles song that just.. perfectly applies to a situation, and I can accept that happily, leaving it strictly at that.
3. John makes me happy. What a charming personality through and through. So human, and such a worth while human.
4. Really, John's love for Yoko makes me happy. You may call me ignorant, but really, at this point, I feel like.. How could you not appreciate Yoko if you could claim to like John, or care for him even? It's just obvious what a positive combination. Seriously. I could go on about this for a while..
5. "savoy Truffle," gives me such a newfound appreciation for food.
I just appreciate the Beatles for enabling me to appreciate. . as it were.

I can't quite remember what I had to say.. So here's a clip from my life at work:
Kyle: yeah, i know about the beatles..when i was a little kid, my mom, she asked me if i could pick out the beatles, like their names, and i couldn't, so she was like 'you're no son of mine.'
me: yeah, you're no conversationalist of mine. let me tell you. . john, paul, george, and ringo. okay thanks.
Kyle goes to take a delivery to a man named Derek.
me: Tell Derek I said 'John, Paul, George, and Ringo.'
Kyle: seriously?

Why they're your favorite: there are so many reasons as to why John is my favorite. . To list a few, in a form of broken sentences: 1) his activism towards the later portion of his life, 2) his humor, 3) inexplicable traits about him that draw me to him, 4) apparent similarities, 5) his passion.
Favorite Beatle songs: Seriously? I'll keep this as short as possible and in no order..: "Sexy Sadie," "Yer Blues," "Think for Yourself," "For No One," "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," "Mean Mr. Mustard," "Help!" "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Nowhere Man," "Act Naturally (I don't care if it's a cover)," "When I'm 64," "Strawberry Fields," "Taxman," "Why Don't We Do It In The Road? (Foolish reasons behind that)" etc.
Favorite Beatle album: the complete beatles box set. okay, either Help!, Rubber Soul, or The White Album.
Favorite Beatle movie: Between Help! and the Yellow Submarine.. I really can't decide.

Ok, so I'm assuming everyone has heard about 'The US Vs John Lennon' which is now only playing in LA and NY but is supposed to be spreading to other cities in 2 weeks.

I just wanted to ask if any of you have seen it. Was it good? Of course I'm dying to see it but anything of any interest seems to only open in "select theaters". I was in NY recently too but didn't really have the time nor money to go catch it. Do you suppose it will come to DVD?

So I said I was in NY, that's because a friend of mine and I went for John's Birthday which was the 9th. We spent a good amount of time at Strawberry Fields in Central Park and I thought I'd share some pictures.

Was anyone else there for that?

Wow, I haven't posted here in a while! Anyway, my Grandparents came over to my place recently and everytime they come over, my Grandma hands me a stackful of National Enquirer's and other tabloids to keep me entertained [not that I follow up on that kind of "news", mind you.]
Anyway, so I've scanned a few beatle related articles that caught my eye and I thought you might be interested [It was my first time scanning anything, so my cropping is a bit crappy.]

Awww, I found this very sad! I'll never listen to Yellow Submarine the same ever again! How could they do that to him? Stupid kids, but Dhani got the last laugh on this one; he's inherited George's musical talent...and George's hotness :)

Mia Farrow

I just loved the way she answered this question. Actually, I love that she was too caught up in talking about India that she never really answered the question! I've had this deep respect for Mia ever since I found out she was in India with The Beatles [and because of her sister Prudence.] But the fact that she mentioned John and George before even answering the question shows how much she enjoyed hanging with them, and how much I envy her!

EDIT: Alright, so what Mia really meant when she said "John and George!" was that they both contributed in writing Dear Prudence. Now, the reason why I misunderstood this statement was because the "and" wasn't italicized, and italicizing it would make more sense to me. Precedently, the interviewer usually italicizes words like that, and not doing so made me think that she reminiscing a time in India. Just trying to clear this up...
