The 'Russian Seasons' have brought Russian culture to the attention of everyone.
Ballet companies all around the world are marking this anniversary with festivals and special performances. This month Diaghilev’s troupe is back to Paris!

| Russian Ballerina Ekaterina Maximova Dies At 70 |
[29 Apr 2009|05:43pm] |
Ekaterina Maximova, a legendary Bolshoi Theatre ballerina and Soviet-era dance superstar, died on Tuesday at her home in Moscow, at age 70. The ballerina joined the Bolshoi right from school in 1958 and danced at the company for nearly 30 years. She took part in the Bolshoi's landmark debut tour of the United States in 1959.
Maximova won over audiences in many of the troupe's grand-scale productions of the 1960s and 1970s, dancing such key roles as Phrygia in Spartacus, Masha in The Nutcracker and the lead in Giselle. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered the Bolshoi his condolences on the loss of the dancer, who had been named a People's Artist of the Soviet Union - a top cultural honour - in 1973.

I've realized recently that my Achilles Tendon has almost constantly been in pain(I believe it's my achilles tendon. It's the back of my ankle, below my calf, and above my heel, on the back of my leg.). The pain has been on and off for a few months, and it always hurts the worst when I point my foot (it's only my left achilles tendon) ,go on demipointe or releve, etc. I realize that this is common for many ballet dancers, but I have a dance recital in a few weeks, and the fact that the pain has been here for a few months and still hasn't gone away is really worrying me. I've tried stretching it, but it always ends up hurting more.
Does anyone have any tips on trying to ease the pain in my achilles tendon (heat pads? wrapping my ankle?)? If you believe it's something worse, or if you've experienced this before, feel free to tell me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
