Another quick thought I wanted to throw out, following up some comments in the previous post...
Quite a few libs I've chatted with would actually go with McCain if we got a Clinton-McCain ticket.
Christian leaders aren't pleased with McCain. Would they be willing to back a third-party candidate, and how far will that take him??
I think the issue people will be most interested in come 2008 will be illegal immigration. Hillary won't want to talk about it. McCain has been very weak on that issue (especially considering he's from Arizona). If the afore-mentioned third-party candidate came out strong against illegal immigration, how much more mileage would that candidate gain?
Nah, I'm still not crazy enough to think he could win. But it would make for a very interesting election, and might be a wake-up call to all the weak-spined Republicans.
