Hello and welcome to

We're a moderated ficcing community dedicated to all you aspiring authors out there in web-world, whether you're looking to become a published author or playing around for your own gratification. (or just because those damned pesky muses won't leave you alone!)
Just to clarify early on, ALL GENRES AND TYPES OF FICTION AND FANFICTION ARE WELCOMED HERE. Be it gen, slash, het, or something you've come up with yourself, we love them all. If it's not your cup of tea, then don't sip it, mmm-kay?
This community is open to ALL FANDOMS as well, and as our writers crank out their masterpieces, various fandoms will be added to the LiveJournal 'interests' for the comm.
Every week, myself (
Step 1: The trigger will be posted on LiveJournal at
Due to an amazing number of participants so far, we've instituted other ficcing sessions during the week, and may add more as time goes by and the community grows larger. We'll do everything within our power to accomodate different time zones, and for the convenience of our friends across the pond.
Honour System Addendum: For those of you whose schedules don't mesh with the plan, we have a second session on MONDAYS, often with different triggers than those given to the Friday group. You're on the 'honour system' to time yourselves though. And I'll KNOW if you cheat... *looks shifty* The Monday fics are due before the start of the next Friday session. For more info, SEE OUR FAQs, located in the 'memories' section.
Step 2: Take a few minutes to get your ducks (or bunnies, as the case may be) in a row, and start your ficcing by 10:00 PM.
Some Rules of the Road Regarding Step 2: (there really AREN'T any) Your fic can be in any format you choose. Drabbles, poetry, character studies, stream-of-consciousness rantings, first person, third person, it's ALL good. Even disjointed plot bunnies are perfectly acceptable. You can come up with your own original idea and characters, or dabble around in any fandom to your liking. The main thing is, you have ONE HOUR to complete your masterpiece. Now, moving onward...
Step 3: The moderator will give the 5 minute warning at 10:55 PM, and y'all have to wrap up what you've got going on by 11:00, and then post it to the comm by 11:15 PM. Sounds simple, right? Well... it kinda IS.
Step 4: Over the course of the next week, all members are invited to review, praise, constructively criticize, and offer advice on the previously submitted works. Remember, all this rigamarole is designed to help make us better writers, and ALL feedback other than hurtful, personal flaming is welcomed. Only approved members can participate in the 'weekly workshop', but all LJ denizens can comment on what we come up with. Invite your friends to play along!
Also, to keep the group sessions fun and lively, there will occasionally be drawings and/or contests for prizes, so hopefully things will stay fresh, and people will keep coming back for more.
As of September 1, 2006 we also do birthdays! Click the linkie love to find out what's up with that.
If someone else comes up with a bunny or an idea that really frosts your cookies, and you want to see where you can take it, just ask!
We're hoping to foster an environment dedicated to the noble concept of 'share and share alike', and wouldn't it be nice to see those drabbles and intriguing concepts fleshed out into a real life fic?
Then go for it!
Take your own 60 minute fic and turn it into a full fledged story and post it to the comm! All works will be archived here in the 'memories' section for the members' reading enjoyment. If all goes well, we could have ourselves a spiffy lil' multi-fandom database of some of the best reading out there, from some of the best authors lurking the 'net.
Well, a girl can dream, right?
Headers are YOUR choice, but all submissions, be they actual fics or results of the weekly workshop, will look like SO: (or else... i dunno. something bad will happen to you. *mutter mutter*)
Title:

Genre:
Spoilers and/or Warnings:
Summary:
Title: An hour's not a lot of time, so 'Untitled' is kosher. Don't want you to sprain your brain, after all. It's a precious commodity.
Author: That's YOU, genius. Penname, nickname, LJ handle or real name, we ain't picky here.
Trigger: That's the prompt that gave you your awesomely awesome plot ideas.
Fandom: Your particular 'verse of the moment' for this go round. ALL fandoms are welcome. If your work happens to come from your own twisted mind, then just label it 'original'.
Disclaimer: If it's fanfic, then it's not yours. 'Nuff said.
Pairing: If there IS one, even if it's merely assumed. Otherwise, just leave it out of the equation.
Rating: Standard US movie fare - G to NC-17. If you're not familiar with this scale, Google 'MPAA ratings' for more info. Don't worry about friends-locking the dirty stuffs. Let your sweet and sassy mods take care of keeping out the kidlets.
Genre: This is just a little heads up for those who don't want to get squicked by reading outside of their comfort zone. If there's any relationship other than friendship between your characters, just classify your piece de resistance as gen, het, slash, etc.
Spoilers and/or Warnings: Another optional designation. If you're revealing a key plot point in any fandom, kindly let the readers know. I personally don't believe in labelling fics with warnings, but if you feel you've written something that might make someone else's head explode, please clarify under this heading. Kthnx.
Summary: I know some of you are gnashing your teeth at this one, but no one expects perfection in an hour, so don't sweat it. Cut and paste your favourite line from the fic here, or even a brief synopsis such as, 'Dick and Jane talk and then some stuff happens'. Anything short of 'I suck at summaries' will suffice. Also, if you wish to tell the readers which prompt you've chosen to work your fic around, then do so here.
That's it. That's the whole enchilada. But, before I forget (and because i'm all proactive and shit), no LJ cuts are necessary for the weekly workshops unless your piece is more than a page (500 words) long. If you come back later to post a full-fledged fic, just stick it under a cut or do a link back to your own LJ, please and thank you. Y'know, whatever moves your furniture.
Edit: (09-21-06) - Now that our fiction archive has gotten so large (over 250 fics!), I'm going back and employing the 'LJ tags' function to designate posts by the author's name and year it was written. Everything is still organized by fandom in the memories section, so nothing will change in that regard, I just wanted some additional search options for the people that come here to read our many works of utter genius. But, from now on out, ALL FIC POSTINGS MUST BE MADE AS A
Just gimme a holler if you have any questions about LJ cuts, or links and fake cuts, etc. If you screw up somehow, I'll be sure to put the smack down on you. Other than that, no worries.
We'll be working out the kinks as we go along (heh. kinks.), and if you have any questions about how anything works, feel free to contact me via Instant Messaging:

Words to Live By: 'Reading a good novel is in many ways like having a long and satisfying affair... A short story is a different thing altogether -- a short story is like a quick kiss in the dark from a stranger. That is not, of course, the same thing as an affair or a marriage, but kisses can be sweet, and their very brevity forms their own attraction.' (Stephen King - From the Introduction to Skeleton Crew)
