Here we go with a full set of new prompts. Tonight we’re all about inventions. Small ones, big ones, world-changing ones. You all know them and wouldn’t wanna live without them. So, let’s do it like the great inventors and get creative. Let’s write some fic, folks!
Today’s triggers are:Word:
Velcro Hey, don’t look at me like that. That stuff is one freaking mindblowing invention. This isn't sucha weird prompt, really. Just think about the possibilities… You can use
Velcro for pretty much everything. It’s used by the NASA, by scuba divers, by the shoe industry, by the Star Trek Crews to stick their communicators on… Seriously, write me some ode to your first pair of Velcro shoes before you learned how to tie your laces, or maybe some little essay about why Velcro has changed your character’s life, or maybe about how those “hooks and loops” are just another pervert’s mind-jump-invention after daydreaming of sex.
Theme:
Reinventing The Wheel Ever done something you were so freaking proud of until someone else patted you on the shoulder to tell you, “Dude, my grandma did the exact same thing fifty years ago. And it only took her half as long.” How ‘bout your characters? And was their finding a new-old solution to a problem worth it anyway? Some say, the journey is the reward, after all…

Guess you all get this one. One of Edison’s biggest inventions, an awesome piece of technology, and, ever since, the globally recognized symbol of “Eureka!” (the Greek word, not the TV show, you geeks). Not gonna babble about this one all that much, other than… Am I the only one who sees a tiny face in that bulb there? Huh.
This is where you go look for an hour of free time to write your fic. Then
velcro it (whoops, wrong invention) post it to the comm
no later than 10PM US EST (3AM GMT, 10AM Oz WST) on Friday, June 27th.
