Gingerbread TARDIS
Hello! I hope this is the right place to brag about this wonderful gingerbread house that my friend [info]pnr and I made during Christmas!

EDIT Dec 2007: A detailed how-to post can now be found in [info]crafty_tardis!

[info]pnr came over for a few hours on Christmas Eve, and again on Christmas Day, and this is your teaser of what we did:

TARDIS teaser

Yes, what better way to spend Christmas than with a fellow geek, making geeky stuff? No ordinary gingerbread house for us, no, we went for the adventure! As an invocation to the Doctor at this the darkest time of the year, that he shall return and bring light into our lives! (Which he did, of course, in The Runaway Bride.)

The pictures are taken by me and [info]pnr , and polished up and hosted by [info]pnr.

First, we drew up the pattern on paper and made all the pieces:

...and then glued them together with molten sugar and frosting, to this result:

(Please note that the thing on the top is a makeshift light -- we really wanted to get a big blinking diode light, but didn't think of it in time, i.e., before all the shops closed for X-mas.)

And just for good measure, here are a couple of more pictures, for your enjoyment:

And, last but not least, an example of [info]pnr's mastery with Photoshop:

We had tremendous fun, and the TARDIS looks fantastic on my kitchen table!

That's really awesome. You need a Gingerbread Doctor, too. He can go, "At last, I'm ginger!"

That is SO COOL! And I agree with the above commentor, you SHOULD send the pictures to DWM. That last photoshopped bit is brilliant.

Awesome. I am midway through making a gingerbread Tardis myself, but I doubt it will ever get finished XD.

Well, the trick is to remember to not eat the pieces before you have stuck them together.

This is possibly one of the most awe-and-squee inspiring things I've seen all year. :) (Also one of the most mouth-watering fanworks ever. ;) )

The really tough question though... is anyone going to eat it? :oD

Thank you!

I'm probably going to be too soft-hearted to try and eat it, so that it will get all dusty and stale, and I shall have to keep it forever. Or until it gets soggy and falls apart.

It puts my annual Gingerbread houses to Shame. Shame I Tell You.

...But then I always eat mine. I don't think I could bring myself to eat that masterpiece. It would be a crime punishable by having a Dalek as a housemate for two weeks.

..Do... Do you mind if I try to make one like yours next year? I Enjoys a challenge.

Hey, wanna put up your plans for making this? I'm not the most creative person when it comes to construction, and would LOVE to make this this coming Christmas!

But this is amazing! So smart : )

*cough* plans...? *cough* :)

Um, we just drew up the shapes on ordinary paper (after some measuring and hard thinking) and used the cut-out bits as patterns on the pastry. They're just rectangular shapes, so it's not that hard. But I'll try and remember, and write something up. Don't know when I'll be done, but I will possibly post it in [info]crafty_tardis, or in this post... Probably in time for next Christmas... :)

We also made a Dalek birthday cake a couple of months ago, but that one's posted in [info]crafty_tardis (which didn't exist when we did this). It's so much fun being a geek. :)

Ha ha, thanks! Actually, I never ate it. Its ruins are still standing around, old, stale and dusty, since I didn't have the heart to break it into pieces. Besides, it was special gingerbread house dough, made more for durability than for flavour! :)

Perhaps me and [info]pnr should have a ritual demolition of it, soon... Make a pyre in the night, something like that XD

Yay! Gingerbread TARDIS! I'm going to try to convince my slightly-less-geeky-than-me friend to build a TARDIS rather than a gingerbread house like we were planning. *crosses fingers*

Assuming that's ok with you, of course...
