One year with Julia

  • Sep. 4th, 2008 at 5:06 PM
Yesterday was Julia's and my one year anniversary. So much has happened in the year we have been together, and I have learned so much. It's been a wild and crazy year. May we have many more years of partnership. I love you, Julia.

I'm not sure if I've introduced my little guy here before... but in case I haven't; this is Armani. His mom is a Chihuahua and I suspect that his dad may have been a Rat Terrier. He's been with us for a couple of years now & he's spoiled rotten! =^^=

My mutt!

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 11:24 AM
I just joined this community and I thought I'd introduce my mutt. I've always loved mutts and have only once in my life had a purebred (and only for a short time -- she was a neurotic border collie that we had rescued from my aunt, who had just tied her out to a dog house. she went off to someone in the country).

A few months ago my partner and I adopted our first dog. She's a 50lb black mutt. We think she's a lab/border collie cross, though the breed mixture is anyone's guess! Her name is Dahlia and she's an absolute love. We're thrilled with her.

Hi, First time posting here...

I hope this is exceptable, I have 2 dogs, ones a huskey X with we really aren't sure and we're having major issues with him. The other is a german sheppard X border collie, She's good most of the time. With Ziggy, when we got him we were told he was abused and they had to bring him back(he was adopted before but they kept track and didn't like how he was being treated so took him back, then we got him) Our issues with him are he constantly barks, is afraid of people and gets off his leash, collar, ect. The being terrified of people is what concerns us, cause he constantly gets off and runs away, we're afraid he might attack someone. We are going to look into getting him into private training classes and see if that helps, I was wondering if you guys had the same issues with your dogs, what did you do? Any advice?

A little help, please!

  • Aug. 12th, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Hi, guys! So, I need a little bit of help here.

My dog, Buddy, is about three years old now, and he has had his home with my parents and me for the last two years. He's sweet and has a heck of a personality, but he doesn't play in the traditional way that a dog is supposed to.

A question/HELP MEEEE

  • Aug. 5th, 2008 at 10:09 AM
My dog Bella (pictured below) is a Lab/Border Collie mix. We believe might also have some Whippet/Greyhound in her too. She'll be 2 years old next week :)

She has an OBSESSION with chasing my cats. I understand it's part of her nature, being mostly a hunting/sporting type dog; but it's not very nice when your terrified cat comes running through the house and climbs up YOU. We've been working on this issue for months, mostly just trying to catch her when she's about to jump up and run after the cat, by just catching her by the collar and saying "NO" very sternly. Rather recently we've resorted to the spray bottle, which is doing so-so.

How have you taught dogs not to chase your cats/other pets? I love them all very much, so removing any one of them will never be an option I would ever consider, unless safety were an issue, which it isn't. This is purely a pain in the arse (and I suppose some stress on my older cat) :P

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

My Sophie Anne

Good afternoon fellow dog-lovers!

I've been stalkingwatching this community for a while, and having finally found my camera, I thought that it was about time I posted some pictures of my darling little girl.

Sophie Anne was born 4 April 2004 in the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA in Virginia. She is a Bassett/Dachshund/Rottweiler mix, and is quite possibly the most adorable dog you will ever see. She isn't very photogenic, unfortunately, as she has a habit of running and hiding from the camera as soon as she sees it. Not the bravest dog in the world, but she's worked wonderfully for me.

Pic spam of the baby! Not at all dial-up friendly. )

There will be more pictures soon, I'm sure. I've been training her to be a service dog since she was about 6 months old, and now that she's finally matured and settled down, we're planning to take the next step soon and begin her official training, as soon as my doctor approves us. So there will be lots of "Doggie's first steps" photos to come, hopefully.

Yet another update!

Kylie is my super thin Mini Aussie, who was a rescue. She prefers never to eat.

I went to PetSmart to get her a kennel (since she has ripped her cloth one in a frenzy to get out when I was in the shower one morning!) and the lady was really helpful. She recommended Blue Buffalo dog food for her, especially the Venison canned food and oh my goodness she actually eats it!

I am so happy! Someday soon she will gain some weight!

It's been a while since I've taken pictures of my Zuni, and even longer since I've shared any. Today was a fairly mild day temperature-wise, considering it's August in Missouri. Zuni-poo and I did a little bit of wandering, and I took my camera to see if I could capture any good moments.

Here are the results: )

Aww, evidently it still wasn't cool enough for her to keep her tongue in her mouth!

Lucy hated our picnic because it was too cold for the princess. )

And there's nothing greater in Finnigan's eyes than going for a walk, coming home, and finishing off a popsicle. )

insurance?

  • Jul. 28th, 2008 at 1:53 AM
after having to put my childhood dog down in march partly because of the cost (she had a uterine infection, was 12 yrs old, and the vet said even after paying $3000, it might not fix the problem), i've been thinking about getting insurance for chewie. my mom also got a puppy, so they'd probably be on the same plan

i was just wondering if any of you guys had insurance for your dogs, and who you'd recommend?

and so this isnt text only
