Back from my European Tour!

I have been so absent these past four months, but I have a good excuse!

I was touring and backpacking around Europe and the UK since May and upon my return here in beautiful British Columbia I have been still been traveling about my province hitting up music festivals, climbing mountains and visiting old friends while making new ones along my way!

I also plan on hitchhiking it down the West Coast of North America this September. I shall start in BC then make my way down Washington, into Oregon and then to California. If anyone of you glorious people know of any free camping spots, cheep hostels or have a backyard this crazy Canadian redhead can pitch her tent in for a few nights- let me know!

I took TONS of photos while on my European Adventures and have chosen a few select ones from each country to share with you all! I hope all of you have been enjoying your Summer and not getting to burnt in the sun!

Hello All,
I haven't posted in a while, I've been very busy. I just got married in June so I have some nice pictures from that. Also, I cut all my hair off!! I donated 16 inches from about my shoulders and then cut more to style. Never had my hair this short before, I like it so far. Def different.
My grandmother/boss whom I see everyday hates it and keeps asking me how long til it grows out. I kinda thought about keeping it for a while.
What do you think? Short or long?

Hello Everyone =)
I just joined and though I would post!

So, Im not quite your typical red head. My hair dosen't really fall under the "ginger kid" catagorie since it is more auburn but I have the pale skin and freckles that come with being a red head. I even get all the red head jokes. I have alot of red headed friends... we seem to have been drawn to each other. I also get alot of "your bitchy because you a red head", wich totaly isnt true. I happen to be quite a nice person.
Does anyone else get that?

I'll let you decide wether or not you can consider me a red head :

Hi guys - i'm new here, and i'm a red head and proud!

Well i've been sporting a type of goatee for a little while...(yes I know I probably look like an idiot!) but actually wanted some views on facial hair and what people think looks good!

You see so many weird and wonderful designs going on - I mean some you think are ridiculous, like little tufts of hair on the chin or something, but thought it'd be good to hear some views!

Redheads versus Blondes

Tonight, I was listening to a friend's podcast on movies based on comic books. It was a great podcast, I thought, until he brought up Nicole Kidman. He said that he never liked her with red hair, but when she was a blonde, wow. That was the first time he thought she looked hot. Then he made some male noise indicating her blonde hotness.

For some reason, that just ran all over me. I asked him about it, and he said that he only meant it about her, but still... it bothered me.

I think it goes back to being a little redheaded girl who got teased all the time, and then there were the blonde girls who were automatically beautiful just for being blonde. I know it's ridiculously silly, but I used to walk around with a yellow towel on my head at home and wish I were blonde instead of cursed with this red, curly mess.

Then, sometime around my late teens, redheadedness became cool.

As an adult, I feel blessed to have red hair, and I enjoy it. I also realize everyone is entitled to their own preferences, but this still hurt my feelings.

I know my friend didn't mean anything by his comment, and I'm sure he did only mean it in reference to Nicole Kidman, but it just frustrates me that I often feel sidelined as a redhead.

I guess I'm looking for some commiseration. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

Hi. I'm in some other redhead community too, but I found this and thought I would post a couple pics and say Hi, since lately I've really been feeling the redhead-pride. Somebody recently called me a "fuckin mick" and I dunno, i've never been called that before.. i guess it's a derogatory term, but for some reason I felt a surge of pride. It's nice to have an identity.

I used to hate my hair as a kid. I would bleach the color out and dye it pink or orange or blue or green. And people would say "i can't believe you would ruin such beautiful hair! do you realize how lucky you are!" and I didn't really get it.. but now that I'm older I get it. We are so lucky to be redheaded! I mean we're our own damn race practically. And the sun is our enemy.

Some pics of myself and my half-moon conure Toby, taken just last night. Some days actually, i really hate this bird. But mostly I love him. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to own a damned conure, they're a freaking mess. But we get along for the most part... we take showers together.. how creepy is that?

A New Hairdo and My First Tattoos!

This weekend I made a lot of changes to my appearance! I got my hair cut shorter than it has been in twelve years and I also got my first tattoos!

I was only a little bit pumped walking down my street the day I was going to get inked...

... And not even the slightest bit excited ;oP

ok hey I'm new here. I've got red hair and I'm 14 this year. I am not even close to popular and I've never had a real boyfriend (I haven't even had my first kiss)

The people who i want to be friends with don't like me because i'm not as hot as all the other girls and heaps of the guys i want to be friends with call me "ranga" because of my red hair and so i think one of the many reasons i'm not hot is because of my red hair but i like having red hair because it makes me different so i don't want to dye it blonde or brown.

Is it normal for a red head to be teased as a teenager? because i hate being teased and although i love being original i really want to fit in!

EDIT: Also i was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what i could do with my hair to make it look interesting

I got some new pictures!

And even some to show off the length of my hair.
Last time I checked it was 36" long, but that was last summer.

After I took out some 50 mini braids. Yeah, My hair was waaaaay frizzled. It was so fun.

My hair isn't that short, Nor is it curly. I had curled my hair one day and flipped the ends up on top my head.

I can't decide what shade my hair is, it seems to differ a lot.. Can you guys tell me what you think please? Whatever it is, I like the shade of it now. It's been turning a lot more auburn and a lot less copper penny!

It used to be almost down to my butt but then I had it all chopped off. I was scared, but it was quite liberating actually!

Has anyone else noticed how most red-heads have their hair long? Probably cos you can't have too much of a good thing ;)

Tough isn't a word necessarily associated with Miss America, but three thieves arrested after their truck tires were shot out by 82-year-old Venus Ramey might beg to differ.
Ramey, who won the elite beauty crown in 1944, confronted one of the three robbers on her farm in Waynesburg, Ky., about 140 miles south of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
"He was probably wetting his pants," said Ramey, who balanced on her walking stick as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.

Ramey said thieves for some time have been breaking into a building on her property where she stores century-old steel-shaping machines and other equipment to sell for scrap, according to the Enquirer.
On April 13, while feeding horses, she followed her dog when it ran over to the building, where a truck was parked in front.
She confronted a man who told her he was "scrapping" and would not leave.
"I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey told the Cincinnati paper.
She didn't think twice about shooting.
"I just went and did it. If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now," she said.
Ramey flagged down a driver who called 911, and three people eventually were arrested, including one at the scene.
"They've been stealing from me for years. Those good-for-nothing slobs," she told the Enquirer.
Ramey began as a showgirl at the Beverly Hills Supper Club then ended up in Washington, D.C., working for the war effort, where she won a beauty contest. In 1944 she became Miss America, representing the District of Columbia.
She was the first redheaded Miss America and the first to be photographed in color, according to her bio on the beauty contest's website.
Ramey performed in vaudeville, and her picture adorned a B-17 bomber that flew 68 missions over Germany in World War II.
According to the Miss America website, Ramey was sought out for a major Hollywood film by legendary producer Milton Sperling of Warner Brothers Studio. But she was disgusted with show business and returned home to her Kentucky tobacco farm, married and began raising her two sons.
In Cincinnati in the 1970s, she helped lead a civic renewal project and made an unsuccessful bid for City Council.
Ramey returned to farm life in 1990 but hasn't found it entirely tranquil.
"I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another," she said.

CHICAGO (AFP) - Some of our cave-dwelling Neanderthal relatives probably had red hair and fair complexions, much like modern-day humans of Celtic origin, according to a study released Thursday.

The finding comes from the first such analysis of DNA evidence taken from Neanderthal fossils recovered from El Sidron in northern Spain and Monti Lessini, Italy.

An analysis of the DNA revealed the ancient hominids carried a mutation in the MC1R gene that codes for a protein involved in the production of melanin -- a substance that gives skin its color and also protects it against ultraviolet light.

In modern humans, primarily of European descent, mutations in the MC1R gene are thought to be responsible for red hair and pale skin by dampening the activity of the protein.

The mutation observed in the Neanderthal genes was different from the one documented in humans, but when scientists inserted the Neanderthal gene into cells in a test tube, it seemed to have the same effect on melatonin production as the modern human genes, according to the study published in Science.

The genetic analysis doesn't seal the deal, but since the fossil record of Neanderthals does not include any samples of skin or hair, it is the best guide available, said Michael Hofreiter, a paleogeneticist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology Leipzig, Germany.

Hofreiter said the number of red-headed Neanderthals was probably pretty small, possibly just one percent of the population and might have popped up in any part of Europe or Asia that the ancient hominids had settled.

The news did not come as a surprise to one leading scholar of Neanderthal evolution and biology.

"The stereotype of primitive peoples is that they are dark skinned, but some paleontologists have been speculating for 20 years that some Neanderthals must have been pale skinned because they lived in northern Europe," said Erik Trinkaus, a professor of anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

"Light skin is adaptive at higher altitudes because it allows more UVB radiation to penetrate the skin and that promotes Vitamin D synthesis."

Neanderthals, whose ancestors diverged from that of modern humans about 300,000 years ago, colonized Europe and parts of Asia, dominating Europe until about 30,000 years ago.

The study suggests that the genes that confer pale skin and red hair evolved separately in humans and our closest extinct relatives.

Hair & Healing...

As you can see, my ears are healing quite fabulously!

AH yes! Within a few days I won't even require the skin closure tape! My stitches came out a week ago and every day I can see my ears getting closer and closer to being fully healed. Russ will be doing a little photo shoot for his website soon. For now, you will have to do with my own attempt at one!

I'm still experimenting with my new camera, so I have some ear pictures as well as a bit of hair whoreage included in this post. The natural light was providing some amazing shots!

Now that's enough of that for today kiddos!

MY AWESOME NEW BODY MOD!!!

So finally after five years of wearing prosthetics, I went in for the surgery and have turned myself into a real elf! Thanks to my incredibly talented friend, Russ Foxx for his amazing work and making a long-time dream of mine come true. It's been over a week since I went in for the procedure and I am still glowing from the whole experience!

So naturally I figured I should post a few pictures and see what all my fellow redheads thought!

They make me very happy!

This is day four after the surgery.

As you can see, they are healing exceptionally well!

I will post more pictures when the stitches come out and they are fully healed!
