My experience with the number 47 is not a positive one, I'm sorry to say.
First, I began to notice a series of coincidences surrounding the number 4710. I briefly dated a girl who lived at an address which contained the number 4710. Her license plate number was 666. I noticed the connection between these two numbers with an improbable frequency.
Subsequently I lived in an apartment building where the address was 4710. The name of the brownstone building itself was my last name. I notice on the Wikipedia entry for the number 47 that the number 47 is also a "Keith number," which is my middle name. The telephone number for the building's management included 2664 (666 multiplied by 4). My number in the building was 333. Over many years, I've seen the number 4710 associated with multiples of 666 many times.
At work, I played poker with some co-workers on the lunch hour for some years. I noticed that whenever the cards 4, 7, and 10 were in my hand (all 3 in combination), I never won on that hand. After a short period of observing this phenomena, I learned to fold early whenever these cards appeared. As a poker hand in itself, 4, 7 and 10 are a wide numeral spread, and an inefficient hand to win by anyway, so this does not necessarily support a thesis of personal ill-fortune. However, as many poker players will tell you, "streaks" of good luck and bad can last for months, and these "streaks" seem to contain highly improbable duplicates of identical card combinations being dealt to the same player. For example, whereas I seemed to encounter 4, 7 and 10 in my hand over 50% of the time for months on end, another player would receive a pair of 8s or the 2-of-clubs in an unnatural, magnetic fashion.
The number 47 also recurs with unusual frequency in my life on receipts, dollar bill serial numbers, telephone numbers, license plates, etc.
As an ameteur historian I'm aware of the theories about the "70-year-cycle" which is the historical belief that nations experience a recurring cycle of "death & rebirth" or extreme crisis every 70 years. FDR alluded to this idea in his prophetic "Rendezvous With Destiny" speech in which he presciently identified the era beyond his speech as a time of historic crescendo. Examples of the "70-year-cycle" in the U.S. should be self-evident: 1789, 1860, 1929, 2001.
Within the "70-year-cycle" are miniature "breaks" or irregular years during which multiple historic events seem to shift strategically like the gears of a clock: 1947, 1968, 1989-90.
The year 1947 has always fascinated me as a year when "the ocean gave up her dead," so-to-speak: many fortuitous events seemed to occur in that year, including the vomiting of the mysterious Dead Sea Scrolls from their cave, the founding of the modern (until Bush's fascist transformation) "security state" and the CIA, the groundwork for the founding of Israel in the following year (1948), the founding of the IMF, the introduction of the Marshall Plan, the founding of the DoD, Joint Chiefs & NSC, the founding of GATT (which is the basis for the WTO). The underestimated significance of the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act over Truman's veto limited the power of the U.S. Labor movement for the first time.
Other less ostensibly significant (historically) but nonetheless noteworthy items of 1947 include the legend of the Roswell UFO crash, which was preceded by another anomalous object's crash in Aztec, and a significant meteor crash during February 1947 in the USSR (Sikhote-Alin) which left an extraordinary group of craters, including one 26m across.
I began to think of the year 1947, as I wrote above, as an expression of the phrase common to many legends in various cultures: as a year in which the earth/ocean/history "spat out" or "gave up her dead." Almost as if by a mystical law of nature.
More on these observations, personal and historical, at a later time.
