Iron Warriors Dread... Up for Sale
I'm planning on selling my IW Dread.
It's a conversion of the plastic Imperial Dread.
It's rather well painted, was painted when my right hand worked properly.

Unfortunately I've tried to get the best pics I can, but they're fuzzy due to it being a camera phone.

I don't know how much I should ask for it though, I'm planning on putting it on E-bay, unless anyone here wants to give me an offer.
So if anyone can think of how much I should ask for it, I'd be grateful.

    Pics here )

    40K GT heat 1 results:
    http://uk.games-workshop.com/tournaments/40k-2005-06/1/

So only 92 players & the top 52 go through.

Only 2 ork players & neither of them qualified!!!

I figured I might as well use 40Kfordummies as I cannot be arsed with 16yr old americans giving me "advice" on competative play.

    Quick hits
So, just a quick note about basic strategies to keep it fresh in my mind. Bear in mind, when I talk about people's armies, they are just default strategies. Some army lists can utilise more than one tactic successfully.

Strategies what I have seen people using:

    • Dispersed Line

Dispersed line is the basic strategy/formation everyone starts off with - form a battle line, deal with stuff. Can be mobile, but is normally static and shooty.

      Examples

Practically everyone for a static dispersed line. I believe that [info]kylon's Tau normally use a very mobile dispersed line.

    • Strong Centre

Have a big, strong core to the army, and normally some smaller flanking units. Must be mobile, normally moving to assault. Can be a shooty move-y strategy, but not normally (necrons pull this off well)

      Examples

Caz's Templars are a default Strong Centre army. Alex Fennel's Necrons use a Strong Centre a lot.

    • Refused Flank

Put everything on one side of the board and charge at the enemy. The non-moving variant is called "Hiding in a corner".

      Examples

      My Speed Freeks. Always.

    • Pop and Lock

Static variant of dispersed line, with counter-assault units held in reserve behind the main line. Normally means a smaller line than a regular dispersed line.

      Examples

My Guard, where I use the Ogryns to counter-attack.

    • Castle

Static version of a Strong Centre, or a clumped version of a dispersed line. May have elements of Pop and Lock.

      Examples

      My Dark Angels, normally.

    • Hammer & Anvil (GorkaMorka)

Combination strategy mixing a static firebase (Castle) with an assault force that moves quickly to the enemy (Refused Flank). The Castle will be on the flank that isn't being refused.

        Examples

Caz's orks, with the main army being the anvil, and the cyborks/trukk boyz being the hammer. Also my buggy speed freekz, which use the buggies as a hammer, and the rest of the army as an anvil.

So, that's all I can think of in terms of basic strategies, anyone got any more?

    First thoughts
So, some first thoughts on what a 40K for Dummies book might contain. First up, a chapter listing, or, at least, some areas of interest?

    • Basic rules - General thoughts about golden rules of 40K
    • Mission analysis? - Dunno, could be interesting to talk about the 5 main missions (limits us a bit to 4th ed, of course), and the 3 mission levels
    • Strategies - General thoughts about strategies - refused flank, firebases, assaults, etc.
    • Tactics - Small level tactics - flamers for torrent of fire, removing from front rank to escape combat, unit deployments, etc.
    • Armies - Start discussing army by army
      • Unit by unit – uses and misuses
      • Different army types

    • Definition of army types – examples? This is really about what needs to be in a shooting army, how much combat you need, what constitutes a mobile army, how much anti-tank you need in a combat army, etc.
    • Different ways of playing – tournament and tailoring. Definitely some room for a chapter on tailoring your army for an opponent versus setting up an all-comers army, as well as any other styles of play (40/40, 1000 points, 1850 points)
    • Places to play – People to play - Dunno about this, just some general stuff on tournaments, campaign weekends, etc.
    • Painting for a battlefield - Now I'm just throwing random stuff in based on what might round out a 40K beginners book, same goes for the next couple of chapter headings
    • Konvershuns
    • Terrain
    • Statistics & Probability (Probably an appendix) - Some basic rules on how to calculate probabilities, and what they mean
