It's what I guess is the cinematic for Dawn of War II - Space Marines vs. Eldar. Daniel and Scott A, now is a wonderous time to be an Eldar. Scott K and Greg, it's still a wonderous time to be a Space Marine player, but now even more so. Check out the super-fast Howling Banshee and super-ninja Warp Spider. Yeesh! And of course the Dreadnought steals the show once again.
So, in an IG codex rumor thread one of my fellow defenders of humanity and the masses pointed out there's a picture of the new leman russ variant (or so it seems) in the 5th Edition rulebook. If you look on page 142, at the tank org chart (the little half inch tank pics) the Tallarn 2nd , Mordian 77th and the Jjojos 3rd all have a new type of turret. It has what looks like 4 short barrels in the tight square. Best guess is this will be the rumored 3rd Leman Russ variant (if the new box that makes both demolishers and normal leman russes is true). It may be something like the new space marine gun that fires several small blast templates or something else...but it looks interesting.
I mostly point it out because it is a high degree of geek attention to detail that someone even spotted it. (the thread was old too, so they spotted it almost immediatly)
I painted the hell out of some Ork Boyz. They're not quite ready to show yet, mostly base-coating. Its hard work.
I'm used to painting 6 Aspect Warriors and having it be 100ish points. Now I'm painting three times as many Ork Boyz for the same value. Ah well.
I did turn up some Nobz that I'd painted about a year back and forgot about, so now I have Nobz to lead my Boyz squads. And 10 Meganobz drying on the sink after getting lathered up...
Mwa.
Oh, I also bought this army on eBay last week. I basically had to, otherwise I'd rush through painting my Orks, which I didn't want to do.
Is there anyone not in King of Prussia who is able to host 40K when y'all play (if you have played at different places before, recall that I haven't been able to come yet) next?. Not for nothing, but that's a long haul for me to do, especially if you guys play on Sundays. Cherry Hill area is fine.
Okay, so I'm trying to find SOMETHING to use as an icon for my IG company of LAPD. I found SOME things I might doctor in Photoshop, but nothing really good so far. Any ideas from the peanut gallery?
I just did this this morning. It took me about 11 minutes, which is particularly nice because, you know, not a whole lot of time to paint.
Anyway, its mostly just a standard primer black, plus some crafts store black mixed with water. I let that sit overnight, then did Tin Bitz on the backpack and some other areas, then dry-brushed boltgun metal over the whole thing for wear.
Its far from finished but its totally playable, which is comforting because I'm constantly worried I'm never going to actually get an army finished in a reasonable amount of time.
Since Greg and I were talking about it briefly the other day, I checked up on what can and can't be "Feel no pain" ignored. Anything that is double the unit's strength (before modifications, excepting Tau) and anything that denies armor saves (ie rending 6's, power weapons, etc) cannot be Feel no pained. So basically it's the same as the necron we'll be back, without the delay.
Thanks to everyone who came out for our 40K-day. With everyone who showed up I think maybe we might need to plan to add a 4th table for the next time. Special thanks to both Scott's for throwing down with the Boot Black Boyz. I learned a lot in those two matches.
Anyway, I had a really good time, and I hope everyone else did too. Let's tweak up those army lists, check what's cheap on ebay, paint up those elite units, and come back ready to rumble for the next one!
We are on for this Saturday (31st) afternoon. Looks like we are working it at Tim's house, just to keep it at a meeting point that is an equal distance between all players. Let's meet up at like 11am, so we can bulls**t around and get stuck in at a good hour to get some serious matches in.
Tim has a terrain board and can open up the wings of his table to make another play area. However, if someone has another legal playing board they can bring - cool.
Bring breakfast, but lunch and dinner will most likely be ordered from local joints. Tim and I will discuss getting beer and maybe alcohol related prizes.
EDIT: Contributions to the general army population are appreciated!!! Crisps, chips, nuts, drinks, sodas, etc. General munchies. Maybe healthy, maybe not. The Romans told us an army marches on its stomach, and who are we to argue with the might of Rome. Music selections are lovely as well. Word.
Right now I have confirmed: Me (Orks) Dr. Rich (Gray Knights) Scott A (Eldar/Dark Eldar) Tim (Imperial Guard) Peter (Orks) Scott K. (Necrons/Space Marines [Ultramarines]) Dom - maybe?, he has stuff to do that day (Tau)
I'm calling the full out Waaagh! Tunchok for next Saturday (May 31st). The Boot Black Boyz are looking to mix it up and get stuck in. Calling out all smurfies, fungi, dog-soldiers, delicate galaxy trash, robbie the killer robots, and whatever Imperial scum you can scrap off your boots and make stand in formation.
It seems a few of our many girly-folk are spending the day doing girly things. So I figure the men-folk should throw down in the most bloody and manish fashion possible. But also keep to our nerdy roots. That calls for us to dust off our army cases and spiff up our command squads. Also, I wish to celebrate A) finishing my schooling, and B) the first weekend where I don't have to work at the Tavern anymore. Huzzah to me!
Things I need: 1) A place to play - looking to our wonderful home owners and home renters for volunteers here. Will bring beer as home improvement gift. 2) Ideas for a prize as a incentive - some good alcohol for the best winner of the game? Best tactics? Funniest use of demolitions? 3) A list of who is in - let me know ASAP so we can keep planning.
Bring army lists of 500 - 1,500pts. We can do fast skirmishes for the learners, and larger games for the company veterans. Maybe even some bizzare team games.
So, in the words of those mighty space faring warriors of the funk, the Harlem Globetrotters, I ask you puny ones... have you got game???
(P.S. Pass this along to friends who don't have LJ or check it often - like Dr. Rich and maybe Jim Fillmore (did he ever get an army together?))
