About3rd Ward is a 20,000 sq. ft. workspace and studio facility for artists & creative professionals, located in East Williamsburg.
Our facility was formed based on the needs of contemporary artists and creatives whose work is often multidisciplinary. 3rd Ward is an über-studio environment that is cost-effective and provides open-source access to space, facilities, and equipment while still addressing personal and private work needs.
By helping artists pursue professional careers and creative projects, 3rd Ward is spearheading a movement that aims to create a permanent artist community in Brooklyn.
Our space includes a photo studio, wood shop, metal shop, dance studio, audio/music recording & rehearsal studio, digital media lab, post production suite, conference room, large shared office space, and computer lab.
Our facility is designed to be used for private rentals, on a per-project basis, for continuing education, for group work, and more. Because we are member-supported, 3rd Ward proves that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have the best technology, resources, and equipment at your fingertips.
3rd Ward is a studio and creative workspace, designed and developed by artists, for artists. It features 20,000 square feet of artistic resources, from welding equipment to state-of-the-art audio recording equipment. 3rd Ward's facilities span the creative disciplines from sculpture to sound, dance to design, photography to performance.
3rd Ward is located at 195 Morgan Ave., in East Williamsburg, near the Grand, Montrose, and Morgan stops on the L train.
3rd Ward is open Monday through Saturday from 8am to midnight; desk hours are 9am to 10pm. We are open from noon to midnight on Sundays; desk hours are noon to 10pm. At 10pm, if the facility is empty, 3rd Ward will close.
Gallery openings and special events are posted in advance. 3rd Ward is closed on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
Who can use the facilities and equipment at 3rd Ward?
3rd Ward is open to artists of all disciplines and levels. Most of the facilities are available on a walk-in basis by signing in at the front desk. However, we encourage you to book time slots in the Photo Studio and Audio Recording/Rehearsal Studio in advance, due to demand and space limitations. Classes are also scheduled in advance.
Use of the Wood & Metal Fabrication Shops requires users to first pass a short safety course and sign off with a 3rd Ward staff member.
How do I become a member of 3rd Ward?
To become a member of 3rd Ward, just e-mail us at info@3rdwardbrooklyn.org, call (718-715-4961), or sign up at the Front Desk - you will complete a membership application, sign up for a payment plan, and receive a photo ID card. We are working towards having on-line sign up in the near future!
