About Ichimoru Gin:
Ichimaru gin was born September 10th, and is the captain of the third division of gotei 13. His vice captain is Kira Izuru.
He made his first appearance in manga chapter 65, "collisions" and later in ch. 74 - "armlost, armlost" - where he doesn't allow Ichigo& co. to pass the western gate of seireitei. Also, in chapters 74 and 75 we first discover the abilities of his zanpakutou.
Gin is almost never seen without a twisted smile that is glued to his face. He’s seemingly evil, malicious and coldhearted.
even after chapters 169+ revelations and plot-twist, there's still nothing to add to his past, aside from the fact that he was the vice-captain of the fifth division under Aizen Sousuke (who never considered anyone besides gin as his vice-captain), and even after Gin became a captain himself, he stayed loyal to Aizen. And above other conspirators, it was Gin who risked the most when Aizen faked his death, because all suspicions were directed towards him. (Which also admits that Aizen trusted gin the most)
also, his relationship with Matsumoto Rangiku (Vice captain of the 10th division) is questionable. Concluding from Rangiku's behavior and memories, they've known each other for a long time and Matsumoto seems to really care about gin - and from chapter 178 we can conclude that he actually returns her feelings.
His zanpakutou is named Shinsou (divine spear) and its command phrase is "ikorose" ("shoot to death"). Shinsou’s sealed form is that of a wakizashi. Its blade can increase its length extremely rapidly - in essence, firing its point like a projectile. It’s not said if Gin has achieved the ban kai level - but it's possible, since even Yoruichi admits that he's really strong.
