Detritus - a 3d asteroids shoot-em-up (free)

Detritus is a fast-paced shoot-em-up strongly based after the old classic Asteroids. Replenish your shield with power-ups and gain new weapons. "Cleaners" appear periodically, so watch out! The keyboard controls should be self-explanatory.

I hope you'll check it out--I just finished it a week ago. I've been working on it for a somewhat embarrassingly long time (re-started from scratch somewhere along the lines).

It's currently compiled + installer for Windows, but there's also source+ makefile for Linux, and I aim to get a release for OS X "soonish"...

GAME HOMEPAGE (download)

And I'm open to any suggestions you might have, either for this game or future games...
great new game store

Hey guys, does anyone here live in New Jersey? If you do, there is an awesome new game store called Play N Trade there, it's on the corner of Rt 9 & Union Hill Rd, in the Exclusive Plaza.

I've been there a few times and they are so much better than EBGames or GAMEstop. First of all, the guy who owns it actualy knows a lot about games, and he'll talk to you about them, and he can reccomend great games. They have games from every system from Wii, to old school systems like NES and even Atari. They also take trade ins for old games and they give a much better price than EB or GAMEStop. It's an indivudialy owned store, not a corporate store, so they aren't pushy, they don't have any quota's to meet or anything like that.

They also have a service that no other store has......DISC REPAIR. They have a huge industrial disc resurfacer that they can use to fix any disc, whether its a game, a cd, or a dvd...and it only costs $3. I had a game that wasn't working that I was going to toss, but I took it there and now it works!!!

Another cool thing that they do is that they let you play the game in the store if you want. They have consoles set up where if you ask, they can put in just about any game that they have in stock and you can play it for a few minutes to see if you like it. (FOR FREEEEEEEE) Where else can you do that?

The owner also told me that they are planning a HALO 3 TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!! for Feb 9. First place will be like a $75 gift certificate and they will have free pizza and food and 10% off anything used in the store

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, and I'm also an amateur when it comes to gaming, but I wanted to ask the experts a question. Lately I've been becoming more and more curious about virtual world games (like Second Life) but I was wondering if there is any such game that doesn't require the player to download it. ie. it lives on your browser rather than on your computer.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

New games

There are a ton of new games out there I'm right now enjoying crysis even on my non gamer pc. Runs just fine at low, until I got to a scripting issue. Bioshock was good until I got to a spot where the game stopped working (i got past it after reloading 100 times took me 2 weeks to get past the safe room, ug. What games is everyone here playing if any? I tried gears of war but it won't even run and Helgate London got boring fast.

p.s. Not a system issue I just have bad luck

Have Your Say About The Banning Of Manhunt 2 In Britain!

I'm sure that lots of people have been disappointed by the BBFC's decision to ban manhunt 2 from being sold in Britain.

Anyone that has been affected by this decision, or is simply annoyed by this, have your say by emailing the BBFC. I received a quick reply from them, so don't hesitate to contact them addressing your concerns.

You will hopefully email them if you don't like being treated like a baby, and think that adults should have the right ot make their own decisions. I emphasised this point in my emails to them.

The email address is: contact_the_bbfc@bbfc.co.uk

Bioshock

Bioshock is the best and worst game of all time. It so far is a great game, one of the best and I will strong recommend it unfortunately the tech support forum has 2,249 threads of issue. I have spent about 10 hours trying to get my game to run and 4 hours playing it. It crashes every 30 minutes on average and I have to turn off features to make it work.

It does still look good, the play is fun and the story is great my recommendation, is to buy it in January, after the patch.

I'm continuing to list a large portion of my videogame collection on eBay due to current finances and this time it's all of my SNES games. I put up 6 RPG's and an 11 game lot with odds and ends in it. Rather than link each one, HERE is a link to my sellers page with links to each auction.

Each auction states that i'll only ship within the US but if you send me a message saying that you are from this LJ community, I will be happy to ship the game/games wherever.

I listed Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 2, 3 & Mystic Quest, Super Mario RPG & Ogre Battle. The 11 game lot consists of Super Mario World, Mega Man X, Sim City, Mortal Kombat, Super Battleship, Super Slam Dunk (don't ask), UN Squadron, X Zone, Super Star Wars and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts.

*cross posted to 2 or 3 LJ communities.

Then when you find a decent FAQ, you have to sift through a large fully text page.

The InGameDex is a public location for all in-game data to easily be collected and viewed. This project has just started, and we are looking for video game enthusiasts who would like to contribute. IGDx covers every game, every item, every boss, every palace, every monster, etc.

InGameDex makes all of this data linkable through a MediaWiki engine, allowing users from all over the globe to input and assit in making the InGameDex even more expansive. (View the Secret of Mana page to get an idea of how content is organized and displayed.)

Text isn't all we have to offer. Add image files, such as sprites and screenshots. Embed video playthroughs that you or someone else has created and uploaded to YouTube. Any bit of information about a game, in any form, is helpful to the greater cause.

We also have a nifty template setup. You can quickly find a nice wallpaper sized image on Google, and throw together a 760x120 banner image for the layout of every game page. Check out these pages for examples: Metroid, Tetris, Katamari Damacy, and Legend of Zelda:TP. Simply upload your template images, and then go to our Theme Submissions page for me details. :)

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on our InGameDex FAQ page. ( That way they're kept archived nicely.) Or, you can just reply here.

We're adding content everyday, but there is so much to be done. So, if you can help, please do! User account or not.

Thanks for your time and attention!

Sweet Gamer Clothes

April 4th marked the grand opening of www.PwnProps.com online store! Sick and tired of looking on jinx.com and other game sites for shirts and gear you just can't find? I got so sick of it I had to take advantage of the opportunities they missed. PwnProps.com is an online shop, specifically meant for gamers. To set aside PwnProps from any other online gamer store, we have a "Custom Option" system. If you see a design you like, but wouldn't buy it because, well, there's just that one thing that bothers you about it. Guess what? Change it! Fill out a simple Custom Option Form on the site which is sent right to my e-mail, and in 24 hours you will have your design ready for you in your own personal, private shop! "What if I don't like anything you have", you ask? Well, then make your own shirts. As an added bonus, if I like your design enough and want to put it on the site for sale, you'll get 10% off your next PwnProps purchase. Don't be a newb, visit www.PwnProps.com today.

Introduction, and Super Smash Brawl character wish list

My name is nesgirl119, and I have a high interest in video games to the point where I actually want to create my own, and am currently in training to do so.
I have loved the NES since I was a child, and love video games even more so now than I did then, my favorite series being the Fire Emblem series.

Here is a pic I made (I may put it into a future game) of a Sci-fi dream, which is similar to a WILD (see my userpic), except more on the False Awakening and Accuracy side, which I think would be fun to put in video games....an ability to spy on an opponent from a distance, lowering resistance to the cold and weakness to the heat, but leaves you completely vulnerable until you go back to that same spot you started the Sci-fi dream in would be priceless to put in a video game:
http://img61.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scifidream3dzd1.jpg

Anyways, how many of you plan on getting Super Smash Brawl for the Wii and doing some Wi-fi competitions?
And what characters would you like to see on Brawl?

I am most definitely going after that one. In fact, I already reserved it (very hard to get a store to do so), and after training a little on it, I will be ready to kick some butt!!

The 2 characters I must see on Brawl are Pichu and Lyn (Lyn from Fire Emblem). Pichu, b/c it has a really powerful self-damaging move that could become its Brawl attack (Volt Tackle, which is an exclusive move only Pichu can learn in the GBA games, and is s), and other attacks it could learn, however, its Pikachu-clone traits have got to go (instead of thunder for a B v attack, how about Iron Tail?).

Lyn from Fire Emblem, b/c she was the first Fire Emblem main character to appear in a USA FE game. She has incredible speed, and is the only main character w/o a horse to use both a special sword and a bow. Lyn could replace Roy on the main character roster, and Ike could just appear (he is 99.9% likely to appear due to his high votes, and the fact the Daelin castle is seen in the trailer). She would NOT be a Link clone, b/c she has no access to boomerangs, is much faster, and she can use a variety of arrows, and isn't just included to just 1 type of bow. Also, more females to the roster wouldn't be such a bad idea, either.
A few things to note about most wanted characters:
1) Only 2-3 3rd party characters will make it in!!
2) Characters that never appeared in a VG will NEVER get in, sorry to say.
3) Rare characters, like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker (excluding the Kongs and Fox characters) will not make it in, b/c they are a 1st party company to Microsoft now.

So, what characters would you like to see added to the Super Smash Bros Brawl Roster?

Radio Show Tonight

Well, it's Friday and tonight at 7pm central we go on the air with a radio show...name or not.

I've been talking about this show over at my own journal, but for those who are curious, it'll be about gaming, movies, and just geek shit in general. Plus, we'll have a give away tonight as well.

If you want to listen to the show, here's how:

Go to http://www.1170wacv.com and then click on the listen live link on the left of the page (should be under the "EEO Report"). If that doesn't work, try pasting this link into your itunes player or windows media player:

http://streamer2.webstream.net/wacv

Okay, now for the phone numbers. If you wanna call in, 334-272-9228 or try 800-289-9228, although I think the 800 number is probably in-state only (Alabama).

There's a chat room that will be available. It's all flash based I think so no install is needed, however, if you do use the chat room, make your LJ name as what you use in there so I know who you are. The chat room is here: http://www.bapenguin.com/chat.php

That's about it. If there's any questions, just reply and we'll try and work them out for you. And again, spread the word if you want and thanks for the support and listening as well.

gears of war stuff part 2

Ok in this entry I will explain how I beat the corpser in act 3 on insane. When you enter the pit go up far enough so the corporser comes down and enters the pit. Once he comes down, back up as far as you can (like where you first entered). This has a few advantages, first you don't get hit when he flares up, second you can see the wretches and they won't drop behind you because there is no space for them. Dom is semi helpful in this part because he calls out the wretches, but that's all he's good for. When the corpser starts to lift his legs, shoot his stomach so he flares back exposing his face and aim for his jaw. He will then scream and move back a couple of paces. If dom yells out wretches, take out as many as you can from the distance then switch to your shot gun. On insane if the wretches hit you even once, your dead. So if you see a gang of them coming towards you, tap a to run until your health is back up, and also to gain some distance. After you kill them, go back to where you were, as far back as you can. You are able to push the corpser all the way back to the bridge from this distance.

Once he's there, run up and stand on the silver clips that connect the bridge. He will aim to stomp on you and if you move he will smash the clips. Repeat this for the clip on the otherside and he's done for. This also took me about 3 to 4 tries to complete.

The next stage is the pumping station. I have died countless times on this stage as well. On hardcore I managed to have a sniper still and that kicked ass because I am not a torque bow fan. Anyways, grab the torque bow and head on over. Go to the bottom of the hill and duck behind the stone slab that's facing to the right. From here you can see the stone slabs and the entrance to the station. Wait here for a bit, and one guy will come down after you. When he comes down the ramp he will (like an idiot) hide behind the stone slab facing you leaving him no cover. Act as if you are blind firing the T.bow so it loads yet still leaving you cover. This way when you pop out all you have to do is aim and shoot. On insane is you are out of cover too long (like aiming) your as good as dead because they will stick you with the bow.

After you take down the first guy, there are two more I reccomend taking out before entering the station. Stay in that general area in cover. If one doesn't come down then move to the betal circular column to get them to come down once they see you. Stay in cover and remember to blind fire the T.bow so it loads first then aim and shoot.

Once you have taken out those three enter the station. Pick up some ammo and continue on. I go in on the right side. There are two or three regular locust, and one more drone to take out which isn't too bad. The helpful piece is to blind fire the bow so it loads/charges up then aim and shoot.

After that, you are done with act three.
Ill write some more on how I beat act four as I go along.

Sorry this is so long. I can't cut from my sidekick

I just beat the game the other night....

anyone what to chat about the game?

I really enjoyed it. Though I felt like there were a few plot holes, and it had a few issues. Over all I though it was an amazing game.....the gameplay and the story is what got me just loving the game....

also it was so much replay value

Questions

I've got a few questions for people to start some conversations some of these are brought on by new system (I'm still a pc gamer at core)

Has anyone else here had issue with most games really not working well on dual core cpu's. Need for speed is the worst it just randomly locks up for half a second from time to time while it re works the cache.

Also now I'm running a dual display has anyone ever heard of a game that supports dual display?

My system if fairly modest, it's only a low end gamer system but I'm curious as for the better part I can run everything I throw at it with a decent frame rate, what pc games really show off a computer power?

also just for your fun this is a link worth checking out http://www.theproduct.de/ it's amazing what these guys can do in 64k and the popular demo is just cool.
