I saw a guy at the Atlanta show last week who had an awesome 311 tattoo on his foot. It looked like an Ohm with II incorporated into it. I loved it. I'd like to see what some of you guys have.

thoughts on the new album:

it's different. very different than anything they've done before, but if it wasn't different, it wouldn't be 311. "don't tread on me" has a very different overall sound than any of their other albums, but so did self titled, so did soundsystem, etc. making the same music over and over is boring. they like to experiment with their music, as most real artists do. they are incredibly talented and know how to adapt to the changing tastes of their fans. and even though everyone thinks that they wanted another album that sounded like something else they've done, i know that when that album of the same stuff came out, people would criticize it anyway.

i know a lot of people don't really dig this album. a lot of people say it sucks. but i say, if you like evolver, how can you not like this album. i personally hated evolver. i want to crack that cd in half and pretend it never existed. i listened to it twice when it came out and hated it so much i lost the cd. for me to hate a 311 cd is big news, cause prior to this there was nothing of theirs i didn't like. i was disappointed that i hated it so much, but what could i do. i was given a burned copy a few months ago and tried to listen to it again, but once again, i just hated it too much. but i won't sit here and say it sucks. instead i'll say i don't like it. "don't tread on me" is a thousand times better.

lyrically i think this album is genious. some of the things they say in relation to the world today totally crack me up. musically they have some awesome melodies and harmonies. some of the lines and chords they come out with don't really do it for me but overall i think it's great. it sounds like they had a lot of fun producing this album and i like it a lot. it may never be on the pedestal that "sound system" or "music" is on, but you never know.

ok so I got to Hollywood and Highland at like 8:40ish cus I thought if I went there earlier I would've been standing out there like a moron, cus I really didn't know what to expect. Anyway, I caught the last like 10-15 minutes of their interview. This is kinda what that looked like:

Most of them kinda ran off to bounce, but Tim Mahoney is the fucking coolest member and the hardest one to meet (so I hear) and he fucking stuck around for a few and was standing right by me, so we got a pic together!!!!

Yeah I look horrible there, but fuck it, it's with Tim Mafuckinhoney!!!!

I saw S.A., but he was kinda running to bounce too, though he signed something for lil like 3-year-old-kid and I tried to get pics, but people fucking got in my way;*(

Here's 2/5 of the band waiting for S.A. to come. The other 2 were kinda not in my camera's view unfortunately and I was trying to take the pics as fast as I could before they bounced or whatever....

This is for sure one of the best weeks of my life!!! Tomorrow morning, I get to fucking wake up and go see Streetlight at Disneyland and then fucking see them again Monday night in case I have some withdrawal, which I will.

I was browsing my local record store on campus when I found 36 copies of the 311 limited edition clear remix vinyl that came out with the Greatest Hits CD in June 2004 for $1 each. I bought all 36. I know that a lot of fans weren't able to get one because it was rare and such, so if anyone wants one for $5 (covers the cost of the vinyl, envelope, shipping, and a little extra for me because I'm so nice). Here's what it contains: Side A: I'll Be Here Awhile (Cirrus Breakbeat Remix), Side B: All Mixed Up (Butcher Remix). Both which can be found online but the vinyl is still cool to have. This is a limited edition collector's item, so if you want one email me at jleslie@gladstone.uoregon.edu and we'll figure it out from there. Sorry to be posting this again but I still have a bunch of these, people that have already gotten one from me can vouch that I've followed through.
