Well, here I am!

Not quite sure where tsita got to, but I'm still listed as a mod, so I thought I'd go ahead and give this a post. :-)

November 1st marked the beginning of National Novel Writing Month, commonly known as nanowrimo. The whole point of the event is to make a valiant and caffeine-induced attempt to write a 50k (or more) word novel before the end of the month. If you're participating, let me know! And if you've never heard of it, go check it out at www.nanowrimo.org! And if you're not participating but you have heard of it, you're sane, but that's just boring! :-D Haha.

I'm going to try and do weekly prompts once more; they'll start coming out on Mondays. Like I did with past prompts, they might be influenced by what's going on in my life. Since my fiance is coming home from Iraq soon (yeah, whoops, forgot to mention I got engaged to a military man, which is part of the reason I disappeared!), I'm all jittery about his homecoming. There's so much to get ready!

Here's your challenge: Write about someone coming home after being away a long time, either from their point of view, or from the people in the place they're coming home to. Where have they been? At college? Do they live out of state? Have they been deployed? Or have they been wandering around homeless? Why did they leave? why are they coming home? How do they feel about coming home? How do others feel about it?

I'm excited to see what you guys come up with!

P.S. Don't forget to put your fics under a cut, and to make your entires friends-only!

Write a story for Halloween, without using cliches. No dark and stormy nights, no rabid St. Benard's, nothing like that--unless the story is a dak humor and poking fun at said cliches.

Just a quick note.

For all you folk who are into words of inspiration and humor.

I started a community for my "Thought for the Day", which I send out as a daily e-mail.

Today's Thought:

Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.
George Carlin

I've started a community to post these thoughts so I thought I'd pass along the link.

I hope you consider joining! Love!!

Five Little Words
Write about a plot that is instigated by a sentence of five words. Something some says, reads, hears, thinks, etc. Do the words haunt? Inspire? Or are they completely forgotten? Tell us.

Pick a color, any color.

Got it?

Good.

Now describe it without using anything that relates to that color.

Damn me to hell all you want.

So, I've got a challenge for you today! This one wasn't particularly difficult for me to think up. In fact, I thought it up while I was on a date Saturday night, and wrote it down on a napkin so that I wouldn't forget it.

Clothing
Write a ficlet in which the narrative focuses on some article of clothing, or even an accessory. Perhaps the story is actually directly about this item, or perhaps the item just holds the narrator's attention for one reason or another. Is a dress? A ring? a belt? A pair of jeans? This could go a lot of ways, so I'm excited to see where you guys will take it. :-)

Tomorrow's my birthday, so if you want to give me a present, write me a fic! :-D

So, sorry for disappearing. My play rehearsal is eating my brain. College applications and pre-calculus homework aren't helping much, either.

Shakespeare
So, either you dread it or you love it or just plain don't get it. Give us a ficlet related to Shakespeare. Are the characters performing it? Mocking it? Discussing it? Ignoring it? Or maybe it's just an ambient thing while the real story is going on. Whatever it is, let's have it, shall we?

It's Talk like a pirate day on Sept 19!

And that's the challenge!

PIRATES!
Do the anti-pirate, the stero-typical pirate, the lady pirate, go for it. Why did you character choose piracy? Why didn't they choose piracy?

Make us walk that plank!

Ah, a new school year, and my Imp in all day kindie-garten. Eight hours of freedom....Supposedly.

Ah well.

Onto the challenge!

The Senses
Taste, touch, smell, scent, sight, sixth. Write from the perspective of one, or what it would be like to be without all but one, or without just one. Write poems about 'em. Go to town!

So, I'm definitely thinking I just sold my soul to the theatre department again.

Spotlight
Write about someone who is the center of attention, standing in front of a large group of people for whatever reason. Are they being inspected? Are they being interrogated? Are they performing? You decide, but tell us what happens. There's a lot of cool ways that this could go, so if your idea's a little weird, don't worry, I've probably got one that's weirder. ;-)

Sorry about the Houdini act. I live near St. Louis MO on the Illinois side of the river, and that ever-so lovely storm that past through here on July 19 played merry hob with us. There's pictures of the damage done to our house posted to my personal journal.

Please remember that no prompt ever closes.

What do we have here? )

Hmm. I think that [info]tsita has been eaten by African man-eating lions, so I'll put up the challenge for this week.

The Fair
This is just off the top of my head, as I have a date to the state fair tomorrow. Yeah, go ahead and laugh, it's kind of cheesy. Write about an excursion to the fair; is it about a fair-worker? someone on the rides? what about about a child going to their first fair? Tell us what happens, be it traumatizing, awe-inspiring, amusing, whatever. :-D

Yeah, so I definitely just went AWOL for about... three weeks there. Sorry about that, guys. I've been traveling a lot and access to a computer isn't always possible... also, I'm a lazy slob, among other things, so... yeah.

A Thousand Words
Below are some links to a few stock photos I found at www.sxc.hu , and a picture of some guy I think I know (but I can't be sure). Pick one randomly and write. It can be anything. Give me anything.

Pic Number One!

Pic Number Two!

Pic Number Three!

Pic Number Four!

Pic Number Five!

Well? What are you waiting for? Get cracking!

And remember, no challenge ever closes.

Sorry I went AWOL on you guys... I've been working a lot and Kroger has stolen both my soul and my free time.

CANDID CAMERA
So, the other day I walked around my neighborhood with a video camera and my boyfriend, taking video of things I saw, us goofing off, and us bothering people at the neighborhood pool. If you were to go somewhere with a camera, for whatever reason, what would you see? Something every-day and mundane? Something cathartic? Something shocking? Run with it! What did you capture on film?

Sorry for going MIA for a week or two. Someone decided that they'd use my debit card info out in Granada Hills, CA.

That'd be fine, I guess, except that I live in the Midwest and refuse to go to California. Wash. State or Oregon is another matter.

HERO I'm watching SpiderMan 2 with my son. Sue me. What kind of hero will you write about? Will they be bumbling doofs, supersmart Batmans, cheesy do-gooders? Write about it. Make it from the bad guy's point of view, or the side kick. May be from the only one who knows your heros alter-ego.

Go have fun with it.

AND REMEMBER, NO CHALLENGE EVER CLOSES

Hey guys. Sorry I missed last week; I was on vacation in North Carolina. Yay sun. Yay... sunburn. Hmm. Well, now it's back to the midwest until God-knows-when. Oh well, can't complain.

Traveling
Road trips, family vacations, fourteen-hour car-rides, getting lost, hitchikingetc. Fictionalize one (I made a new word!).

Kroger just hired me and I am not entirely sure that I am pleased about it.

Get writing!

Sorry it's a day late, kiddos. I'm on summer break and it's difficult to keep track of what day it is.

Okay. Well, I'm on a huge Red Vs. Blue machinima kick, so my challenge for you borders on plagiaristic, but not really.

Red Vs. Blue
Red vs. Blue is basically a parody on the player one vs. player two game on Halo. It's spawned four seasons and several five-minute episodes that are, while not necessarily work- or children-safe due to language and some *very* crude humor, side-splittingly funny. This is 95% because of the quotes. So, my challenge to you is to take one of the quotes (I put the ones with a couple of swear-words under a special cut, to keep you safe!) and work it into a story. Pick one. Or two. Or three. Heck, pick all of them, if you like. Don't even bother to add in references to Halo - make it your own!

So, I went to the bookstore today and got Terry Pratchett's Small Gods. I also bought a CD of celtic music by the Boston Pops Orchestra, but that's beside the point.

So. I have a challenge for you, my darlings.

Incarnation
Imagine a God - the Christian God, or a God of any other religion (Greek, Hindu, I dunno) - incarnates to accomplish a Task. Only... the incarnation didn't quite go the way He/She/It planned. Suppose you meet this misincarnated god/goddess.

So. How's it gonna fly, mate?

Go!

In other news, there's a new community out there, called [info]originalficfest. I've joined up, and would like to suggest that you do too. So, in saying that, for the weeks that the stories are posted there (Stories posted between: July 30 - August 13, 2006), they can also be posted here.
