Kyle in Denver: Where's the 30 Rock scoop!? The premiere is in less than three weeks!

The premiere is Oct. 30 on NBC at 9:30 p.m., and you must watch or I'm sending Tracy's lizard after you! So much has changed since we last saw the writers' room at TTJS. Jack (Emmy-winner Alec Baldwin) is working in the mailroom, and Devon (Will Arnett) is trying to shut down GE. (Oh, and by the way, in the spirit of the current economic meltdown, GE is now just "G." Devin sold the E to Samsung, which henceforth shall be known as Samesung.) Oh, and Tracy Jordan is a white woman—seriously. The premiere centers around Liz's (superhero Tina Fey) interview with an adoption agent played by Megan Mullally, and—shocker—it does not go well.

TV Guide has this clip (it's the 2nd one on the list, combined with DSM) with this dude talking about spoilers for the first two episodes. (IKR? I thought they will be showing clips but it's just this dude saying stuff that can be written. Weird.)

It starts at 0:45 but for those who cannot watch it, this is what he said:

- Jack goes back to get his job from Devon and it involves strawberry lip-gloss (HEE. Alec is such a good sport)

- Kenneth is a thief; stealing either:

Oprah's List of favourite things (LOL),
Twofer's new girlfriend or
Cable (lol, random)

- Liz is dressing up as Princess Leia! With a hilarious voice! (I'm assuming Halloween? I have never watched Star Wars but isn't Princess Leia famous for some metal bikini thing?)

Apparently the October 20th issue of TV Guide will have an interview with Tina Fey and the following week's issue (October 27th) featuring TV Guide's cover story on 30 Rock's Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin (via http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/13/tina-fey-on-sarah-palin-i_n_134188.html).

Also, for those 30 rock fans in New York, 30 Rock is filming tonight [10-14-08] around Central Park S and 7th Ave in NYC (via Ohnotheydidn't who got it from http://www.onlocationvacations.com/category/daily-filming-locations/).

'30 Rock' prepares for season, 7 Emmys in tow

For five weeks, Tina Fey has been in TV limbo. She’s had praise and a new batch of Emmy awards. “It’s a lifetime supply,” she jokes. What she hasn’t had, alas, has been a show on the air. On Oct. 30, “30 Rock” finally returns.

It arrives with early guest stars — Oprah Winfrey (Nov. 6), Steve Martin and Jennifer Aniston — and attention.

The Television Critics Association named it the year’s best comedy and gave Fey its individual comedy award. A Television Week critics’ poll put “30 Rock” as No. 3 overall, trailing only “Lost” and “The Wire.”

The Emmys brought 17 nominations and seven wins, including three for Fey — best comedy series, actress and script.

All of this is for a show that keeps evolving. Even the basic form was a surprise.
Fey, 38, had assumed she was writing a show that would be taped in front of an audience. As it expanded, it became one filmed on location.

“It takes a lot longer this way,” she says. “Sometimes, the writers will talk about the days when you could do ”Cheers“ and be home for supper.”

Not now. As she was talking by phone, it was after 7 p.m. and she was finally riding home with her 3-year-old daughter chattering nearby. A typical workday is 12-14 hours long.

The focus has also evolved, she says. “The relationship between Liz and Jack has really grown to be the center.”

Liz Lemon (Fey) runs a TV variety show; Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) is her network boss. “I always knew that I would have to have him be right some of the time,” she says.

Jack might be right about romance and life, two things Liz botches. “I think she’s getting a little better, a little more adventurous,” Fey says.

He’s usually wrong, however, about business things. This season, one episode will mock a corporate retreat.

That relationship has worked splendidly. The TCA gave its individual comedy award to Baldwin the first season and Fey the second; the Emmys had ones for each (best actor and actress in a comedy) this year.

Also growing has been the role of Kenneth the page.

“I’ve known Jack McBrayer a long time,” Fey says of the actor who plays him. “He’s such a warm, lovely person; I wanted to write a character like that.”

That might leave less time for the stars of Liz’s fictional show - Jenna (Jane Krakowski) and Tracy (Tracy Morgan).

Still, “30 Rock” has songs for Jenna and a twist for Tracy: Coming into new wealth this year, he worries that his kids want to kill him and his wife wants to divorce him. “Jack wants him to have her sign a ’postnupt,“’ Fey says.

As Fey’s reputation grows, people might assume she writes all the episodes. Actually, she has nine other writers.

“The most I wrote was six or seven (out of 22) the first season,” she says. “Last season, it was less.”

And no, she didn’t write the “Saturday Night Live” Sarah Palin sketches. The idea came as soon as Palin was nominated for vice president, Fey says.

“People immediately e-mailed me, saying there was a resemblance. ...I didn’t see it; I think she’s better-looking.”

Lorne Michaels — the producer of both “SNL” and “30 Rock” - persisted. Soon, Fey was guesting on her old show.

The writing was mostly from Seth Myers, she says, with minor touch-ups from Fey and Amy Poehler. Finding the accent was all Fey.

She had done lots of acting at the University of Virginia (where she was a drama major) and at the Second City comedy troupe. “Accents are something I’ve always enjoyed.”

So she did Palin. That meant more praise and more demands on her time; Fey has had plenty of both, thank you.

Really looking forward to the corporate retreat. It is going to be hilariously disastrous.

I'd call this a pretty substantial detail: It ain't happening! According to a 30 Rock insider, the show scrapped the hilarious-sounding cameo -- the frenemies were supposed to appear in a flashback as high school classmates of Liz Lemon's -- for "logistical" reasons. Spotted: B and L kicking themselves senseless.

I just stumbled across this which lists a total of 4 Easter Eggs on the season 2 dvds. Sadly none of the blooper Tina hinted at where someone tried to pull her red dress off, but the rest sound pretty fun. If anyone knows how to find them, then I'll love them for ever. Seriously.

After three weeks of Tina Fey's fantastic ratings on Saturday Night Live, Sarah Palin has reportedly decided to cash in. Apparently there's been brainstorming on the idea that the Alaska governor could appear on NBC (as early as Thursday, when the comedy show will debut a mid-week "Weekend Update" segment during prime time, or two weekends from now during the next live broadcast) making fun of Fey herself. The idea, apparently, is to spoof the 30 Rock writer's American Express ads. We can't wait to see whether this will happen — like many candidates before her, Hillary Clinton made a good-natured appearance earlier this year to deflate Amy Poehler's characterization of her, but it sort of seemed like that was because Poehler liked Clinton. McCain is a friend of SNL, but it seems to us that the show's writers hate Sarah Palin. Thoughts?

Since 30 Rock has been getting more and more popular, I figured we could use our own drabble-a-thon! Thus came the creation of thoughtsicles, the official 30 Rock Drabble-a-Thon community.

Did you see the N.Y. Post's report that Salma Hayek might be appearing in two episodes? The studio has not confirmed the appearance, but my Spidey-sense tells me it's likely to happen. And did you see that Tina was shooting scenes outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza/Center with Peter Dinklage? Remember what Tina said ages ago when asked who she'd most like to play a love interest for Liz Lemon? Peter Dinklage! In other news, Jack returns from his government job armed with the knowledge that Dick Cheney is mostly made of metal, and we learn of yet another embarrassing gig in Jenna's past: She did a commercial for a Japanese soft drink called—wait for it—Whizz.
