30_kisses. These tried to kill me, as I said before. Each theme response is only 30 words long. I thought it would be a cute gimmick to start off with, then it ended up FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE and it wasn't so cute anymore. It was really, really hard. I'm not exactly happy with a lot of them, but I did the best I could with such a miniscule word count. Anyway, here are my 30 kisses 30s, as I dubbed them. THEY TRIED TO KILL ME. Most of them blow. But I did it! It CAN be done! (Just not well).
1. Look Over Here
Uo hates attention, but her long legs, sun-kissed-blonde hair and heart-stopping eyes scream ‘look over here!’.
Kyo’s eyes trace her every movement hopelessly, helplessly. Uo both hates and loves it.
2. News; Letter
She’s started the letter four hundred times – “Dear Kyo”… The next words are ‘I haven’t seen you in years and I miss you’, signed with a kiss, but she just can’t.
3. Jolt!
Both Uo and Kyo are adrenaline junkies – they live for life’s thrills, risks and rollercoasters, kissing the sky.
But Uo doesn’t like the jolt she feels when their hands touch.
4. Our distance and that person
Uo understands that she cannot compete with Tohru. The Yankee – coarse, unfeminine, too tall - will always be beaten by her petite stature, smile like sunlight and soft, unsure kisses.
5. “ano sa…” Hey, you know
Kyo says ‘I love you’ the same way he says everything – nonchalant and gruff. Uo tells him not to be so sappy, but kisses him when she sees no-one’s looking.
6. The space between dreams and reality
In his dreams, the Yankee kisses him with passion and abandon, mouth pliant against his; soft in his arms.
The next day, in school, Kyo can never look at her.
7. Superstar
“She was the girl with the superstar smile, and everyone loved her.”
Uo can’t believe she’s delivering Tohru’s eulogy. Kyo touches her arm comfortingly and the sunlight kisses her coffin.
8. Our Own World
They go into their own world when they fight – it’s just the two of them and this anger.
[Uo never, ever wonders if his mouth could kiss as well as it yells.]
9. Dash
Uo’s not the girly flirtatious type, but Kyo sometimes looks at her in a way that makes her want to run so he can follow and catch her, and then...
10. #10
They have called each other names ten times today.
He pushes her up against her locker, kisses her hard, slow. Her blood throbs in her veins. Time number one. Beginnings.
11. Gardenia
He surprises her with a single gardenia on White Day, even though her Valentine’s chocolate was horrible. The soft white petals are kissed with pink at the tips. It is beautiful.
12. In a Good Mood
He can always tell when she’s in a good mood because she hums, so he knows it’s okay to sneak up behind her and plant a kiss on her cheek.
13. Excessive Chain
Uo gazes at Kyo, who’s mooning over Tohru (blind to Hana’s stare); Momiji watches Haru as he daydreams about Yuki-kisses, he has eyes only for Tohru, a chain leading nowhere.
14. Radio-cassette player
The first time he heard her sing - along with some song on the radio about honeyed kisses - he teased her silly, even though it was pleasant and tuneful.
15. Perfect Blue
Kyo would never say ‘your eyes are ocean-blue’, but once he bought her a sky-blue pendant, told her it matched her eyes, and kissed her clumsily, and that was better.
16. Invincible; unrivalled
This man, who plays endless games of catch with their son, and kisses their daughters goodnight, is so different to that headstrong teenager who wanted only to defeat his cousin.
17. kHz (kilohertz)
On the one hand, abandoning their studying in favour of passionate kisses is going to mean she will fail the science test tomorrow.
On the other hand, she doesn’t care.
18. “Say ahhh…”
“Orangey, I want to know how this tastes! Open up!”
The spoon is in his mouth before he can object. Later, he is violently ill. She apologises with a kiss.
19. Red
His eyes have always fascinated her – never before has she seen scarlet like them. She wishes she was brave enough to ask him to leave them open when they kiss.
20. The road home
Before, he was never anxious to return after long training retreats. However, now he knows she is waiting for him with a welcome-home kiss, the journey home is much sweeter.
21. violence; pillage; plunder; extortion
They punch as fast as they kiss. He holds back and she wishes he wouldn’t. They are angry at each other, Akito, the world. Always, she cries at the end.
22. cradle
He rocks the cradle with one foot, kisses his daughter’s forehead softly. She can’t believe he’s free, and they are together. Their daughter has hair like burnt gold.
23. candy
The night he’s locked away, she makes her first-ever batch of candies. Angel kisses, they’re called. They’re bitter, sour, ruined, but she eats every one, and weeps over his photograph.
24. good night
Like him, she sleeps on the roof. The cool night air touches her skin softly, a caress, and, ahead, the stars spread out like a roadmap to paradise. She understands.
25. fence
They have erected necessary barriers. They are afraid.
“Don’t lock yourself away,” Tohru tells them each softly, separately, and kisses them both, and hopes they can let each other in.
26. if only I could make you mine
He wants to write his name on Uo, wants to burn his brand onto her with kisses, wants to own her as much as she doesn’t want to be owned.
27. overflow
Sometimes she feels so full of horrible things that she could explode. It is then she hits him. He holds her wrists fast and kisses her hard, until she forgets.
28. wada calcium CD3
Tohru suffers a manic vitamin-buying phase. Kyo donates the calcium to Uo – he drinks enough milk and he wants her to be able to grow model-tall. She kisses him, touched.
29. the sound of waves
It’s so soppy she would never admit it, but she likes the sound of waves kissing the beach (their beach), the timbre of his voice, the steadiness of his heartbeat.
30. kiss
“Hold still, Yankee!”
“Or what?”
“I’ll miss. Now hold still or I will PHYSICALLY HOLD YOUR HEAD STILL.”
“Who says you get to kiss me anyway? YOU hold still!”
