26th-Jul-2008 04:23 pm - victory. at last.
My desk is clean. (it's even been dusted.) I threw out 2.5 garbage bags worth of stuff, mostly junk mail that I had to shred. I started to go through my cooking magazines and see which ones I could throw out, except that i quickly realized I'd just be wasting my time. Above and beyond my normal pack-rat tendencies, there are enough tasty recipes that I can't even just copy/cut them out and throw the rest away. At least not without it being a Big Old Project the which I am just not prepared to tackle right now.

Phase One of Project: Get Ready to Move is complete. This took me approximately six hours. Granted, I was very distracted during the process, but auuuuuugh.

I am off to reward myself wtih some Persona 3. Meanwhile, I need to decide what to tackle next. I think that starting to pack things will actually help with that, because it will give me a better idea of what I can and can't do.

Does anyone know if there is a way to recycle compact discs? I have a whole bunch that I do not need anymore (mostly episodes of Buffy from way back in the day before I owned all the boxsets) and while I don't just want to throw them away, I don't need them taking up space in my CD racks either.

random: thankfully, although the claim did not show in the system nor the charge on my card, my prescription request went through in mail-order and I have it now. Panic attack averted.

more random: wow, weddings falling fast and thick 'round here. *boggle* I mean, I knew that, it's just that now they all have dates, and stuff.

Speaking of moving, Comcast is infuriating me and I don't even have service yet. They say that they don't have my building/apartment in their system, can I please give them the management company's phone number? Sure thing. I do. They call me back and say that the post office informs them that my building is only 2 stories (funny, since I've BEEN on the third floor and my apartment will be there.) Now, they haven't called the management company, but I have to bring my signed lease to one of their retail locations if I want service.

Shenanigans, sirs, and bullshit.

I'm going to call back on Monday, hope I get a more intelligent representative, and if that fails, work my way up the chain of supervisors until I get what I want. Their job is to get my business and make me, the customer, happy, so they better damn well do their jobs.

Also, AT&T wanted my social security number to run a fucking credit check to give me phone service. For a $10/month line. fuck that, guys, seriously, what the shit is wrong with you? this is why identity theft is so rampant: because companies who have no right to that information want to run credit checks - thereby pinging and lowering my credit, thanks FICO, you're such bullshit - before giving me a phone line. At $10/month. What the shit is this?

This moving thing is going to be way more hassle than I want it to be. I also am going to have to go to U-Haul in person because apparently if I reserve on their website they won't guarantee me a moving truck but I'll get a $50 deposit back if they can't provide! ....Yeah. No. Shenanigans. I call bullshit.

packing list and brain dump )

Wow, lengthy brain dump. Persona 3 now, really.

...I know that hits all the major points, and yet I feel like I'm missing stuff.
26th-Jul-2008 01:09 pm - fucking wasps what the fuck
there are three fucking wasps in the house. i am allergic to wasp/beestings, and I do not have any Raid. THIS IS NOT OKAY.

*cowers in her bedroom whimpering*

I recruited the guys painting the porch to kill the two in the front (only fair, since their leaving the door open allowed the little fuckers in) and am giving [info]wrenbow money and chocolate to slip past the one in the back to acquire us some Raid. I can't. I. oh my God.

*needs her Paladin like right now*

*panic panic panic panic*
26th-Jul-2008 12:47 pm - Your Nerd Is Showing (Final Fantasy Tactics Translation Meta)
Or, why Rina shouldn't be allowed near anything derived from Latin, because it keeps me up when I'm trying to fall asleep at three am. augh.

This started because I'm in the process of constructing a giant ridiculous meta dissection post regarding the four elemental archfiends in FF4DS, and then I started thinking about names and translations (Valvalis in the SNES version was Valvalicia in the fan translation, and became properly Barbariccia in FF4A in keeping with the source of the fiends' names, that being the Divine Comedy) and, well.

Spoilers for FF Tactics like hello.

this is your spoiler cut; talking about the end boss in FFT and non-spoilery stuff about the Espers in FF12 )
26th-Jul-2008 12:14 pm
Arggggggggh. The FFIII villain in Dissidia is confirmed to be the Cloud of Darkness. Whyyyy can't it be Xande? I'm probably the only person in the world who is pissed about this, but still. XD

But seriously, Xande would make way more sense since the Cloud of Darkness appeared at the very end (kind of like Necron), whereas for the entire game, the four warriors of light were told that Xande was the one wreaking havoc everywhere. If they're going to have the Cloud of Darkness as the FF3 villain, then they should just have Necron as the FF9 villain. >.>

I dunno. That's my little anecdote for the day.

ALSO. I got accepted into [info]paradisim_rpg. I am playing Phoenix Wright there. >.>
26th-Jul-2008 09:30 pm - i worry for my mental health
a ton of assignments, two tests, a quiz and the beach run next week. and i still have to practice for my upcoming grade 8 piano exam since i still can't fucking play even a piece properly yet (ah, the mark of a proscratinator).

bloody hell. nobody told me that life would be so hard before i was born; if i knew, i'd think twice about coming to the world. xD

yessh. anyway: my worst fear that i hope would never ever, ever, happen to me.

i have a mild fear of airplanes because i have a strong fear of falling. that's quite funny since i'm a pretty frequent traveler during the holidays, shuttling back and forth between jakarta, singapore and any other indonesian cities i'm lucky enough to get whisked to (this just hit me: would this reflect horribly on my carbon footprint?). the passengers of the qantas plane were lucky to survive, but going through a 6000 m drop? honestly, i'd faint. or pee in my pants. or pee in my pants before fainting.

i think i need a study whip (junyi just told me what a 'government whip' is during NE Quiz--which by the way three NUSH teams participated in and brought home... COPs!) to motivate me to study. but i don't know why time seems to be accelerating--shrinking, to the point that by the time i get home, shower and eat, i have no time left to study and so tired i just want to sleep. i need to make the most of my weekends, but weekends traditionally have been off days for me, and old habits die really really hard.

meanwhile, the sudanese government has warned the UNSC and ICC that if al-bashir is indicted, the AU and UN peacekeeping force safety would be compromised. i hate the fact that al-bashir is a president--he has the power to call the shots by threatening the UN and ICC for the former to freeze the latter's investigation by playing on the fact that in the pursuit of justice, peace may be sacrificed; should more darfurians, aid workers, AU and UN soldiers lose their lives because ICC wants to make an example out of al-bashir to all the tyrants and wannabe-tyrants out there?

obama's europe tour seems to be a resounding success--200 000 germans showed up to listen to this guy who isn't going to be their president (but is in line to be the most powerful man on earth in november) and so far, obama's winning foreigners' hearts. i especially like his foreign policy beliefs--almost conservative (kinda weird for a democrat, but times have changed and people change) but i think it's something that all the west should take note of: democracy should not be imposed on countries; the only way to help a country to develop and form their own democratic governments is by giving the people what they want: jobs, food, homes; economic development is to precede democratic development if the west wishes for countries to peacefully turn democratic. (i still think that democracy may not be suited to all countries as like what many western intellectuals like to believe, but if the usa changes its stance from "you turn democratic, and maybe i'll help you" to "hey, you need help; i'll help you", it would be for the good of the developing nations as well as the world--although economic aid from western superpowers may be very expensive and this idea may not be very popular with the governments there).

angela merkel, the german chancellor, welcomed obama in berlin while t-shirts like the one pictured above have been circulating around ever since his plans to speak in germany (he's only going to speak publicly twice throughout his tour) surfaced.

and nicolas sarkozy--my favorite politician! (for all of his on-and-off-office antics :) )--has nimbly paved the way for a mediterranean union that seems to be a closer possibility than ever before. him and his juggling of foreign diplomacies are such a beautiful thing to read in newspapers--that is real talent. compare that to bush, who seems like a klutz when it comes to foreign policies.

and two of my favorite politics figures up there, smiling for the camera so happily after sarkozy said "the french love the americans!" and they love barrack obama too. obama's this close to getting an endorsement from another head of states.

also last week, bayern lost the supercup to dortmund 2-1 although now that the cup is not recgonized by dff, it's pretty much an exhibition match in which klinsmann sees how the team fares with the seven internationals now joining them already and tests out the 3-5-2 formation as well. ribery's back in munich (in clutches--get well soon, franck!), new jerseys are unveiled (the really wacky dancing supermodels are a, uhm, nice touch?) and schweinsteiger has decided he's bored by his old platinum blond hair and dyed it back to his old hair while it seems like klose's cut his hair (goodbye, beautiful haircut that i really really <3).

now that miotv offers me a way to watch my favorite tv episodes (distractionsdistractions!) earlier than waiting for half a year for them (or resort to uhm, ways that the internet provides), all they need to do is just put in a channel in which i can watch bundesliga and i am sold.

(woah. how'd this post get so long?)
26th-Jul-2008 08:50 am - Life in the Mommy lane
I stayed up, far to late, reading a book and contemplated the mysteries of my ceiling. lol.
And now I am up, far too early, because the kids got in a fight. They are now cleaning... mwahahahaha!!!

I am in a really nutty mood too.

I have my timer, I have my list of things to do, I need to go get fizzy and then get to cleaning.

oh eww

I just stuck my hand into my purse to get out my change.... and pulled out a handful of crumbled gramn crackers with the change.

I think it may be time to clean out my purse.

anyways gotta go get some fizzy.
Have a good day LJ!
26th-Jul-2008 06:45 am - the way things are
Work sucks, the people at work suck, and the people who are supposed to be friends at work suck. Period. I am tired of being condescended to, and all that entails. And I am most definitely tired of being bitched at because other persons are even more neurotic than I am and just don't embrace that fact. Take some of your own advice, and get over it.

Anyway! Friday was a drag, I went to bed at 9ish, totally missed Psych. I'm scared to see it now because everyone on the comms seem to love it and my tastes usually run counter the flock on things like this.

Der kitteh woke me up at 6am, so we are now chilling in the bed, he's asleep on a pillow snuggled up behind me, while I am playing online. I had to hit friends?skip=160 to check my flist today, so I removed a few high-traffic comms ([info]house_wilson and [info]wincest) from my watch list. OMG FRIENDS CUT U R NOT INTERESTING!! XD

Against my better judgment, I am rewatching some of SGA. I just finished S2's Aurora, and am basically hitting the Weir-centric and Caldwell-centric eps since S1. Could this be because I want to write an epic S4 AU focused on them? Possibly, possibly. :)

I could also see some detailed and cohesive posts on the awesomeness of Caldwell coming soon, though I have one question: people who watched SGA seasons 3 and 4, is there any significant Caldwell eps we get? At all? Or does is he just kinda there in those seasons?
25th-Jul-2008 11:52 pm
So I uh. Went to see Hellboy II.

......

**DIIIIIIIIIIES**

IN JOY.

I HAVE NEVER LOVED A MOVIE SO MUCH. IN MY LIFE.
25th-Jul-2008 11:33 pm - Home and Home again.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were spent up in B-town.

Included in this: A happy Maggie, a new episode of Project Runway watched alongside my mother, a very eventful trip to the themepark, which at least no one in our party actually had to pay to get in, going to Wisconsin accidentally, sleeping in the guest room, picking up some medical records, seeing the house where I spent most of my grade school years, talking with a friend from high school, realizing how screwed up the people I used to know from high school are, dealing with a mother who is not taking being unemployed very well (though who can blame her, she essentially got fired from her job while she still owned half the business), meeting up with the dog that always seems to be around when I come up and visit, and eating the strange food my mom keeps in the house.

Not included in this: Finding my bike. Riding two of the most awesome roller coasters with my companion beside me, proper navigational skills.

There might be more to say. But then, there might not be.
25th-Jul-2008 10:09 pm - more squee; weekend!
So it is the weekend! I've made a little bit of advancement on my plan for the weekend (that being: clean the area around my desk. So far I've picked up shoes and clothes, which is already making a significant difference. Now i have to tackle the desk itself. Um. Meep?)

FF4 DS might kill me with awesome. Golbez's voice actor is perfect. So perfect I squealed out loud when he showed up. I am absolutely in love with the fact that the maps for Mt. Ordeals have random bones scattered around on them! But this game is a lot harder than I remember it being. The boss on Mt. Ordeals pretty nearly walked me, ugh. But I am just...I...the thing where I can read characters' thoughts by going into the menu screen? I have been nerdgasming over it 24/7. And Cecil's thoughts in Fabul, before the big event, pretty much brought to mind a phrase [info]mithrigil had used to describe one of her fics, that being: Irony Cudgel Says, rama-lama-bang-bang!

and spoilers through Ordeals )

Anyway. On to sorting through the obscene piles of mail and such and then making my shredder protest the amount of work I pile upon it.

(Also, Kain, stop it. You have 300,000 words coming to you already. I'm not giving you more.)

(p.s. a handful of things hit me with a meta sledgehammer today while I babbled at [info]celeloriel amidst my playing. More on that in a separate post.)
25th-Jul-2008 06:51 pm - Final Fantasy IV DS (spoilers)
I just got it today. At the moment, I've gotten to Castle Damcyan. Here are my thoughts thus far:

-I love the small additions, like the mini games, the new summon, the shop window, auto-abilities and so on

-At first, I thought Cecil as kinda whiny, like "Yeah, you're sad, I get it" but he is still the bees knees

-Rydia is so freaking cute, oh my god! Her voice actress and the way her character looks and...and...awwww!

-It also seems the characters are being fleshed out more than they had been in the original, which is always fly

-Instead of Darkness taking some HP to deal a bit of damage to all enemies, it now makes your physical attack do more damage at the cost of HP. Against bosses, I like it a lot more. But I remember I liked using the prior version in fights full of multiple weak enemies.

-I hope they make Paladin Cecil better! In the original, his white magic kinda sucked so I only found him good for physically attacking enemies.

All in all, I love it somethin' crazy.

...uhh....right....

Read this ad.
Laugh, it is highly amusing. What is even funnier is the thought that people will take it seriously.

You know I have considered starting a religious filter/journal, simply to share my views and how I believe. I haven't yet. Mainly because I know how sensitive the subject is for people. I also don't feel in the mood to have to defend my beliefs, or lay myself open for attack, you know?

ahh well....

I don't agree with the beliefs that this add is catering too.

I applied for another RP! Whee! I haven't been accepted yet, but hopefully I will. ([info]paradisim_rpg for those who wonder.)

I'm still upset about what occured at MI, though. (Note: Said event had nothing to do with me.)
25th-Jul-2008 06:49 am - Vancouver 2010
Yesterday, while I was in the break room, Lillian came up to me and handed me a quarter.

At either job I'm at, when anybody has any canadian change, they give it to me.

It was a pretty shiny quarter. And on the back, along with the Queen's profile portrait, was this odd little design with the olympic rings underneath it. When I turned the quarter around, there was a picture of some person snoboarding and a maple leaf in the background, and, at the bottom, said "Vancouver 2010".

me: ... Wait, what?! Vancouver is getting the Winter Olympics?!?!

I am so incredibly excited, it's not even funny. I want to get me some tickets and go. Probably stay with Emmanuel, while I'm up there, too! I haven't seen him in forever!

They probably have a collection of quarters depicting every sport. If anybody gets them or the new loonie (doubtful on that, but it's worth a try), lemme know. I'll trade ya.

Who wants to come with me?

I better get my passport renewed ASAP. And get Thad's done, too.

I am so excited.

24th-Jul-2008 09:29 pm - Slave to Squeenix
So I really didn't need another game right now, and I told myself I was going to be good and wait, that if nothing else I really ought to finish Phoenix Wright 3 before picking up anything else for the DS, but then one thing led to another and somehow I found myself in a game store on the way home from work today and... well. You know how that goes.

Very very preliminary thoughts on FFIV )
24th-Jul-2008 10:25 pm - WAIT. WHAT? AW HELL NO!
MTV is remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

24th-Jul-2008 11:01 am - mornin all
just poppin in before I go tackle the day.

**waves**

The kids are playing, the living room is thrashed but the house is full of children laughing. It is a mellower day than it has been.

I think I am getting the opportunity to take a deep breath before the next emergency.

Because we all know it is on it's way.

Anyways, have a great day lj.
24th-Jul-2008 02:15 pm
MOAR FILLER.

But I'll say that I finished The World Ends With You. The gameplay was fun, the story was interesting but not ground-breaking, the characters somehow felt more hollow at the end than they did at the start, which is odd considering the nature of the game. I'm not terribly excited about doing the extra play-through at the moment, but I might watch it on Youtube sometime. Because I am predictably, inexplicably drawn to Square's old, wise dude archetypes, Mr. Hanekoma was my favorite character.

But still, it left me with deep in the throes of mehhhh.

AND MEME

Respond to this post with a picture of any fictional character/s I remind you of, and I'll do the same for you.
24th-Jul-2008 12:39 am - Quotables
As blah as I feel today... There were some pretty good quotes at the Comic Shop.

Kimmi-monster: Susan, remember?
me: remember what?
Kimmi: remember you work at Wal-Mart?
me: Every single day, sweetie.

*****

Devin: Where's Kevin?
Dennis: He's in toys.
me: *glances up from what I was doing with a smirk*
Dennis: *in his best paging immitation, as the same thought crossed his mind* Attention employees, can Kevin in toys meet Devin in comics, please!
me: That sounded so Wal-Mart...
Dennis: It's exactly what I thought after saying Kevin was in toys.

*****

Kevin: *as phone rings* it's your turn to answer.
me: -.- *checks caller ID and sees that it's Sparkie, then answers*
Sparkie: I just got out of class, I wanted to know why Kevin called me.
me: Oo; um... Kevin, why did you call Sparkie?
Kevin: I didn't.
me: He didn't.
Sparkie: It says he did.
me: Well, he might've called you accidentally before calling me, he used to accidentally call me every time he'd try and call you...
Sparkie: True.
Kevin: Ask Sparkie what he's wearing!
me: They want to know what you're wearing.
Sparkie: A Green Lantern t-shirt and shorts.
me: A Green Lantern t-shirt and shorts.
Kevin: what COLOR shorts?
me: What color shorts?
Sparkie: Khaki.
me: Khaki. ... *immediately to Sparkie* Okay, I'm gonna let you go before I have to relate any more increasingly personal questions.

Off to bed. Hopefully I can sleep.
