Wanted: Holiday creation helpers
dragon
[info]howtoneverletgo
Dear All:

When normal little boys, girls, dogs, cats, aunties, uncles, frogs, lamps and pillow (quoth the nigahiga: TEE HEE-double pwn!) are good they get a visit from Santa resulting in shiny new bicycles, adorable dollies and lots of candy (yum!). When authors, authoresses, poets, playwrights, and movie writers are good they get a visit from the plot bunnies. This comonly results in renewed inspiration, plot twists, a way to move past that hopelessly slow scene that needs to happen (much as you hate it), new character developments, sappy romances good enough to not laugh at and general good writer-dom. Gwennan has been visited by the plot bunnies. Gwennan loves the plot bunnies. As the equivalent of an adolescent to the writing world I had lost my faith in the magic of the plot bunnies. Like any magic-experiencing non-believer (shun the non-believers, but not me) my faith has been renewed by this inexplicable miracle. The world of fantasy has been reborn with a new light of magic and phantasms in my eyes. Forevermore may the magic flow through the world of fantasy writing; illuminating the dark shadows of reality, casting all the world in the gorgeous glow of surreality. I do declare that we shall forevermore celebrate the holiday of Authorsmas (tentative, temporary and not very good name- sorry about the cornyness) each year in tribute to the comings and goings of inspiration at the whim of the mystical Plot Bunnies. We will stuff shiny new notebooks (or PDF files, all things considered) with inspiration and the fruits of our authorly labors and bestow them upon those we deem worthy of a visit from the Plot Bunnies. If you would like to join me in the creation and joyous celebration of this new holiday dedicated to the magic of fevered eyes fixed on the spot where pen meets paper. If you beleive in the magic of the half-delirous state in chich the battle against droopy eyelids and stiff fingers as the cursor flies across the page takes place, please contact me. Ideas for how to further the spirit of inspiration and authorship are welcomed. May you be blessed also with a gift from the Plot Bunnies; masters of all things creative,muse-like and inspired.
with much love to all,
Gwennan Moore
Founder of Authorsmas

Notes to the Notorious All (I really need to meet this "all" person once and for all. He's responsible for a lot of stereotypes):
-I need a better name than Authorsmas and I know it. If you have a better idea, tell me.
- I need fellow revelers. It ain't a holiday if one lonely teenager celebrates it alone.
- I need ideas. How best to celebrate and further the odd, somewhat fantastical whims of the plot bunnies? Do we want to hold a contest? Write an anual holiday novel? Compile lists of favored writings from those authors we think define literature? How to revel, indeed. . .
I don't know, so tell me world!!
- Last: When?!!?!?!?! When to celebrate? The holiday season; time of all celevrations and joy unearthly? High summer when all the happy kiddies and angsty teens like me are freed from the houses of learning?

Well, Happy Early Not-Actually-Authorsmas to all!
Gwennan, out!

Seeking Artist for Graphic Novel
purple
[info]jane_elliot
Yes, I know, everyone's seeking an artist these days and I have to admit that I actually have an artist who is doing a phenomenal job.  However, I'm writing a bit faster than she can draw and, in the hopes of not driving her to distraction with update requests, I'm aiming to start a second project.

Details:
-I approach graphic novels as a full collaboration -- your artwork will impact my writing and I am always open to story suggestions (because it's not my story, it's *our* story).  I can provide whatever level of detail required, but I do prefer artists who can take the essentials of every scene (i.e., all of the parts of the scene that feed the plot and/or characterizations) and flesh them out to create a full and vibrant world.

-I actually have several stories plotted out, two of which already have scripts.  This means that you can pick the project that sounds most interesting to you.  I'd also be open to writing an entirely new script if you are interested in developing a story together.

-I used to request a specific drawing style, but my current artist has shown me that expectations limit the creative process:)  As such, any style would be great, as long as it's something that can be done fast and regularly enough for the purposes of a graphic novel.

-Every original project I work on is undertaken with the understanding that the project is eventually intended for publication.  Practically speaking, this means that I'd prefer you only respond to this post if you are very serious about committing time to the project and seeing it through until the end.  (On the plus side, I'm already published and write a kick-ass submission letter, so publication is not an impossible dream.)

-If you are interested, please respond here with a link to sample artwork or e-mail me at janethunder at gmail dot com.  I'll be happy to provide a writing sample in return.

I get a late start on the nanowrimo and need some help
NaNoWriMo
[info]howtoneverletgo

Just a few days ago I was made aware of the most amazing creative organization in the history of creative organizations. In short, I discovered NaNoWriMo (Thank you forever Funky Night Turtle). I was elated and overjoyed, etcetera etcetera. I visited my grandma. On the way home at aproximately 7:08 I yanked out my laptop, slammed the power button, pulled out my beloved word proccessor and was effectively dead to the world for the remaining 20 minutes of the ride home and then 15 minutes past. Suddenly the muse who had possessed my body released me from its hold and I read what I had written, only to realize that it was the most incomprehensibly written pages of my life. Then it magically half pulled together with something i scrawled on a napkin when I had the flu. It was an oddly dark little half-nothing that almost reminded you of an underpolished stephen king piece (then I lost it. I nearly cried- I'm still searching though).

Now I'm presented with two young hispanic men who excell at programming and partying who are about to be sucked into the depths of a semi-urban Faery realm where the plants have world domination schemes and I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do with them. I don't know anything about programming or hacking; their area of expertise and there are a LOT of gaps in the story. Is there anybody out there willing to guide a mediocre computer user through a novel fraught with magically altered technological dangers? Because I am sorely in need of a guide. Someone who knows something about code programming and possibly the sacred art of hacking would be nice but anyone who has put a computer and/or a program completely at their mercy would be a godsend. It would help if they liked fantasy. Also, anyone adept at photoshop who would like to have their name plastered all over the nanowrimo world for gorgeous cover-art making is welcomed with open arms.

The names of any and all helpers will be sung to the high heavens (or in some cases typed to the high heavens) . full credit for services rendered is fully gauranteed.

yech. I sound like a lawyer. Oh well.

Google Wave collaborations

[info]eurekagray
I've loved the idea of this community from the start but I've had a hard time following through on the project end of things. Part of it is timing, part of it is geography. I've recently gotten an invite to the Google Wave trial run and there are some neat possibilities coming out of it. If anyone else is in Wave and would like to collaborate with a photographer (who has some other skills) please let me know and we'll give Wave a test run!

Code-Toad Poet Seeks DHTML Hero, Will trade editing.
[info]toaftoaf

Hi, Folks. I've been a page-bound poet forever, with about a dozen poems published in the past couple of years (professional writer/editor for 30 years). Now I want to do web poems using flash, DHTML, java, etc. but I am code-clueless. I've downloaded programs to try and learn enough code to create what I see in my head, but it would take me years to match skill with inspiration. So I need somebody, a collaborator, and preferably somebody who wants help being a writer. Then we can trade. I've trained writers professionally for years.

Who are you, my hero? You may not be much of a poet, but you have the keyboard fingers of a superhero and plenty of creativity and artistry. Me, I have the tongue of a poet but the code capacities of a toad. Let's get together. I have text and ideas; you can add code and images. Or you have snazzy code and I can add text and suggest images, etc. Or we can start from scratch on a poem that could only exist on the web--integrated all the way along.

Beauty is the goal, and subtlety. No pantomimes--like when the mention of "water" in a poem is matched with a wavy line of text. Too obvious. Like playing charades. The goal is to be literature, class, the true, the good and the beautiful. What would Shakespeare do if he could code? . . . . "Be thou my MP3......" (Well, maybe not.)

For example, a poem about a fellow sitting alone by a lake: when the reader finishes a stanza a click will send the words skipping across the surface of the lake like a stone, leaving lonely circles criss-crossing each other.

Or a poem about a lady who won't plant ivy because she doesn't want it spreading too fast, and vines slowly penetrate the space of the words.

Or a poem about a gymnast whose spine is studded with lights. Impressionistic.

Or a poem about a girl who dreams of talking like the birds, and there's a mouseover effect to play bird calls on specific words.

I need the other half of a team. The world needs more mutual assured creation.

November collaborative pairing
Boris rat
[info]niamh_sage
Ok, in the absence of any replies yesterday, I'm going to make an executive decision and say that for this month, the comm is 3xcreative, with [info]holyoutlaw, [info]dirtyretro_xo and [info]frozenrhino all working on a collaborative project together. Because it's already the 3rd of November, the deadline for this month will be extended slightly so you get a full month to do your project. So, we'll look forward to hearing from you all on 3 December!

Have fun!

November collaborative pairing
Boris rat
[info]niamh_sage
Hi folks,

Looks like we've got an odd number for this month's collaborative project, so, I'm going to throw it open to the three who have signed up, [info]holyoutlaw, [info]dirtyretro_xo and [info]frozenrhino: What would you like to do? Do a three-way project, making the comm for this month 3xcreative? Or would you like me to draw pairs in which one of you will end up doing two projects this month?

Alternatively, if there are any latecomers who would like to sign up, that's ok too. Please comment on this post with your thoughts/ideas. It'd be great if we could find the solution within the next few hours or so, so you can get started!

Looking for a writer
[info]atlanta_charmer
I've completed 15 chapters of a book I'm giving my niece as a gift.  With work and a full load in college I'm struggling trying to complete the last 4 chapters.  I've written some of the last 4 chapters and I have an outline, but it needs a little editing and some work.  I'm looking for someone to help me complete the last 4 chapters.  If you're interested let me know.  I would like to have it completed by Christmas.

if you like it, gimme  a comment! I would be happy to help people with ideas get their thoughts into writing- some people have great ideas, but not the words to express them, but never fear, Gwennan is here! writing help is subject to my moods and tastes (sorry folks, can't write something if I don't catch the vibe or if I can't match the voice. just won't work.) hope you like it- its written from experience.

Collaborative pairing sign-up for November
Boris rat
[info]niamh_sage
Hey everyone,

Sorry this is a wee bit late (can't believe it's the end of October already!), but now's the time to sign up for a collaborative creative project in November. You can do this by commenting on this post.

I'll leave the signups open until the morning of 2 November, and will post the list of pairings shortly thereafter.

Have at it! And have a lovely weekend. :D

Yes yes...this is a fertile land where we shall thrive...
[info]roninikoma
So anyone else on here interested in / excited by the collaborative potential of Google Wave? Anyone having any awesome ideas regarding its usage?

I'm anxious to use it for some collaborative storytelling or role playing or some sort of group creative endeavour.

I have an account and I've invited friends but it's taking quite a while for the invites to get to people. So right now I'm alone amongst my friends and I haven't been able to play with it at all :(

Anyone in here on Wave? Would you like to do something with it? Maybe just play around, maybe make something? I do most of my creative work in speculative fiction; urban fantasy, cyberpunk, space opera, etc and I'm a half-decent writer and a passable artist so I can definitely contribute something.

I do have a few invites left so if people are interested I'd be glad to drop a few.

Digital colorist for a webcomic needed!
[info]oh_emm_eff_gee
I have a webcomic that I would like colored. I have the first 20 or so pages drawn and inked, but, alas, no way of coloring it. So if anyone was interested just say so and link me to an example of your work.

Bg of the comic: It's a fairly cheesy little fantasy adventure. It's got bright colors (with your help) and bad jokes and would appeal to a five year old as much as an adult.

Thanks! :)

New portrait added at Way Home
[info]otherwendy
Hi there. [info]moimoietmoi  and I were paired together back in May during the first round. We originally did ten photo and word portraits of residents of a fictional apartment complex we invented called Way Home. We've recently added a new one (Rosie Ward), and I'm posting a link to it here. This project has been a great addition to my life so far. I'm so glad we are keeping with it, even if at a much slower pace.
