Getting to know the Prince of Denmark, one Sonnet at a Time
Name:Getting to know the Prince of Denmark
Theme:Studying Hamlet
Location:United Kingdom
About:So a few friends and I are going to England in the fall to see David Tennant in Hamlet. I thought it would be a nice idea if, before we go, we took the time to study this play so that we would be able to really absorb the entire production without struggling to understand the dialog. Hence this community.

I figured the best way to do this is to make it like a book club. Each week we will read one scene from the play and at the end of the week, on an as-of-yet to be determined day, we will discuss that scene.

I'm going to do a little research, try and find some study guide and at the beginning of the week, I'll try to post some questions or ideas to keep in mind as you read that week’s scene.

Now, at the risk of sounding exclusive or snobbish, I am only going to allow so many people in this comm so that it remains manageable. So please only ask to join this community if you truly want/and are able to participate.

Rules

1. Respect each other. Some of us might be very fluent in the language of Shakespeare, while for others this might be there very first contact with his work. So if someone ask a question or makes a comment that you find to be 'stupid' or 'silly' DO NOT flame this person. Rather, if you are so inclined, educate them and help them to understand. That is after all the purpose of this comm. Any insulting, whether direct or subtle will result in immediate banishment.

2. Stay on topic. I don't care what you did last weekend. And I don't care about that time you were studying Romeo and Juliet and you were reciting the balcony scene with this boy you thought was soooo dreamy and you just wanted to kiss him and....Nope not for this comm. Hamlet is what we are discussing, Hamlet is all that is allowed.

3. Participate. Don't join this comm if you aren't going to participate. Easy.

4. To be added later if I can think of anything else.

5. Because I'm only allowing so many people (I don't know how many yet) to join I'm going to ask you to comment in this post just saying why you want to join and how much you think you'll be able to participate. And to make sure you read the RULES, please quote "The play's the thing."
