Gearing Up for Ravelympics...

[info]weasleywoman05
*flexes fingers*

The projects are decided upon (almost), (some of) the needles are on order, and the yarn is sitting my basket just waiting to be turned into pretty things (that's right--no ordering-- I'm de-stashing!). I'm ready to represent for Team TARDIS. :)

I'm participating in three events: Sweater Sprint, Sock Put, and Mitten Medley. For Sweater Sprint, I've decided to do the Flutter Sleeve Cardigan from the spring issue of Interweave Knits. The yarn has been sitting in my basket for months now -- this was the exact motivation I needed to get started. My swatching is done; I'm using Knitpicks CotLin in Lantana. I just need to go out and get some buttons.

I'm torn between two different patterns for the Sock Put. I'm either going to go for a new technique and try toe-up socks in the form of Cookie A's Baudelaire (from Knitty) or do the twisty lace of Linda Welch's Spring Forward (also from Knitty). I have yarn I could use for both. I think my Lorna's Laces Lily Pad (limited edition color from Jimmy Beans Wool) would be perfect for Spring Forward. I've been looking for a pattern to do it justice for awhile now. On the other hand, toe-up would be a new technique for me. Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

And finally, Mitten Medley. I'm doing Evangeline by Michelle Szeghalmi. These mitts have been in my queue since January 1; the yarn has been sitting in my basket since mid-January. I'm doing the elbow length version and I'm going to be trying the Magic Loop technique (a first for me).

So now I'm just waiting for my needles to arrive. I used this as an excuse (really self? I needed an excuse?) to finally buy the Knitpicks Options Interchangeable needle set. Woo! I've had my eye on it for a loooong time.

Finished Project!

[info]christyulmen

This is the first time I have posted to this blog but I just wanted to share the baby blanket that I just finished.  I got the pattern from the Lion Brand website.

I was making it for my cousin.  It turned out ok for my first attempt at a blanket.  I just hope they like it.  I posted the pictures after the cut... I took them with my camera phone so the color isn't the best but oh well.

Hey people!

[info]giggle_pie147

Hi, I'm sorta new to livejournal. Anyways, this seems like a cool community and I LOVE knitting. I've been knitting since I was 7. I made this really cute baby blanket with a check pattern, but I decided to make 3 more and turn it into one big blanket. It's taking a lot more time than I thought it would. Just curious, but are you all really advanced knitters, or beginners? I've been knitting for quite a while, if you call 8 years long, but I still consider the projects I do as easy.

works in progress

[info]triathgirl

I don’t think I’ve actually ever posted before, merely left comments. Hello! *waves*

Because I find it a pain the behind, I'm not going to post pics of my current things on needles.  Instead, I am going to provide you with a lovely link to my flickr photostream. That way you can browse at your own leisure.

Works In Progress

Descriptions of the WIPs )

I picked up some yarn two days ago for the Lucy In the Sky cardigan (light green) , and I ordered some  yarn for this Thermal (in violet).   I want to make my mom something for her birthday.  She doesn't really know what she wants, and since we're in separate states right now, it's difficult for me to help her look around at patterns and yarns. Her birthday is in July, so I guess I'll have about a month after I return Home to find a pattern, find yarn and make it. I'd like to do a sweater or cardigan, but it is her birthday, so if she wants something like socks or a rug, no problem.   I'm also trying to plan ahead for my great-grandmother's birthday (Thanksgiving)- I want to find a lace shawl or scarf pattern and I know that lace will take me a really long time because I can't do other things while counting stitches (no tv, no audiobooks, no people...)

I finished them all! A few images

[info]patricialynne
The other week I started making wrist warmers, just real simple ones.  I would knit them up on a loom flat, and once they were knitted up I would set them aside and start another, so I had about 7 pairs of unfinished wrist warmers. =) The other day I finally sewed them up and put them on my website.  I am totally in love w/ Patons Carmen yarn!  It is so super soft and fuzzy.  I need to find more. (In case you haven't guessed I used some for a pair.)  For the most part I used doubled up Kiss yarn I got on sale for a buck each. =)  Now I just need to find those one patterns I saw on here for more difficult wrist warmers.  I also got a new toy to knit up stuff w/ (or weave actually) called a straw weaver and it's quite fun and quick!
Just something quick I made w/ the weaver. paton's carmen yarn for this pair )

2008 knit out and crochet

[info]2eclipse
this was just awesome.
i met so many great people, just from standing in line or sitting next to people; a woman who learned to knit from her mom, 4 girls who started a fiber club at their university, a woman who owns an angora goat and spins her own yarn, the mother of two yarn store workers who teaches crochet professionally... people came from all over the country. california, ohio, florida, wisconsin, colorado.....it was great.
cut for the ridiculous length of this post )

Knitting frenzy

[info]spireia
I just joined this community and thought I should post a few things...  I have only been knitting for just over a year, so most of the pictures are of scarves, but quite a variety.
For those interested, here are links to the knitted
scarves and other projects of last year, plus January of this year.
Currently, I am home for a snow day. I am trying to get caught up on all of the things that crafting has distracted me from in the last month...

Something interesting in the works!

[info]eustaciavye
This is a new WIP of mine. I'm making a shawl for a friend for her birthday. She specifically wanted a thick shawl that would keep her warm so I decided to use homespun yarn (which I actually like working with; I know some people hate it) and asked her to choose a color. She choose two; edwardian and chili so I decided to use both colors and make something a little funky. I am aided, I suppose, by the fact that I have not really been taught to knit and so when I want to do something i just make it up as I go :D I do a lot of odd things with my knitting. In this case I am doing color knitting with a technique which I have named "mostly kinda fair isle but sometimes it's kinda like intarsia" which is to say that most of the time I am carrying both colors, but sometimes when there's a section of one color that's just too big, I cut and weave in the end. It's a triangular shawl in stockinette with yarn over increases at the beginning of each row. I started with 5 stitches and I'll end with around 180 or 200. The pattern is sort of like leopard or cheetah spots which is why I call it the wildcat shawl )

Just some of my past Projects

[info]willowforrestal
This link will take you to my latest jurnal entry which is an updated list of things I knitted so far this year. I plan to have much more knitted next year. I also forgot to mention I am knitting a Celtic guitar strap for a friend. I also plan to have it padded and lined soon. I am debating about a fun fur edging on it. Well enjoy and I apoligise for the bad pics. I can't wait until tax time to get my digital camera fixed!

Socks!

[info]bookfanatic
Today I finished my Coral Socks. They've been mostly done for a few months now, and all I had to do was graft the toes and sew in the yarn tails. They turned out a little too small for me, so I think I'm going to give them to Miss Ann from church. She really admired them when she saw me working on them.

I also finally got around to taking pictures of my Basic Blue/Brown Socks. They've been completely done for a while, but I haven't managed to take a picture until today. They turned out really well, and I almost managed to match the striping. If you look at the toes you can tell that I ended up a little off.

[info]willowforrestal
I just joind this group a few days ago. This is the first time I got the chance to do an Introduction. Well I am 27 a mom of 2 and started knitting back in febuary of this year. My mom tried to teach me when I was younger but she mad it difficult. With my dislexia I cept getting her instructions mixed up. But I did discover I can knit back and fourth without turning my work. Dont ask How I do it becuse I relly dont know how I do it. With my sons autisim I had to find a way to keep myself calm in the evenings before going to bed. So I started knitting. I am a costumer by nature. I do a lot of sewing on the weekends. I make all kinds of medeveil, renasounce, and fantasy based costumes. So here lately I have been converting some into kniting patterns. Since I cant afford fabric right now I figure it would be intreasting to see some things knitted up. Currently I am working on a Druid's robe It will probably be finished by June at this rate lol. When I get a chance I will post up pics of what it looks like so far. At the moment not much just about 15 rounds ofa few inches. I relly look forward to talk with some of you. Enjoy the rest of this day.

So. I have bronchitis, and have been out of work for the past week. Between playing City of Heroes/Albatross18/Peggle, working on classwork, and watching Avatar: The Last Airbender/Gurren Lagann/D.Gray-Man/Naruto, I've been knitting and crocheting.

here's a few of the things I've been working on )
