one2flip34flop
hey guys
I was looking for children's toys when I found a knitted "The Thing" from comic books.
That gave me an idea to knit a super hero for my brother (who is completely obsessed with Marvel comic books) for his birthday in june.
Has anyone seen any patterns for superheros such as superman, batman, spiderman, etc.
Basically any superhero will do. :D
Thanks!!

8:19 pm - Be-Ribboned Booties

mydeepbluesea
Hey folks. I'm making the Be-Ribboned Booties from One-Skein Wonders, and I'm having problems understanding part of the directions. This is my first time making anything resembling a sock, so I'm hoping one of you guys can help me sort it out. The part that's confusing me is:

"Forming the Heel
Place 11 stitches from right holder onto needle, attach yarn, and pick up and knit 11 stitches from right edge of bootie top; knit 13 top-of-foot stitches; pick up and knit 11 stitches from the left edge of bootie top; knit 11 stitches from holder, You now have 57 stitches."

What? Before the split to make the bootie top, I had 35 stitches. Am I knitting 11 stitches from the middle piece and attaching it somehow? If someone could explain, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

6:00 pm - Research Results

eowyn_ulysses
Hi!
I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out with my sociology project a few weeks ago. I'm overwhelmed by the number of people who took the time to answer my survey.
I got the graded paper back and I made an A. w00t!
You can read the paper in its entirety here
Thanks again!

3:33 pm - Paton's Classic Wool

chasingtides
So... I bought myself a skein of Paton's Classic Wool (100% Merino, worsted, 223 yds) in Forest in the hopes of knitting myself a spring tam. I was originally delighted with it - a light lacy camouflage tam to end my school year. However, I seem to be clinically incapable of knitting tams. I gauge swatched and all. Yet, somehow 88 stitches, on this tam, look like they ought to be the beginning of a sweater rather than the tam I imagined.

Any suggestions for something springy and fun to do with 223 yards of camouflage coloured worsted weight wool? (Other than, of course, a tam.)

7:24 pm - Lace Scarf and Doily

walden121
This scarf was made for a teacher that I work with. She was very nice to me all year and was humorous to have around. So I felt compelled to knit her something nice.

Teal Lace Scarf )

I made this doily for my sister, without realizing just how long it would take me to do it. My attention span is not the greatest, so this one would get set down to work on shorter things and so it was a little late for a Christmas present . . . like 3 months late . . .oops. I think it was worth it though, but why don't you decide. )

I want to knit a baby blanket with a star and heart pattern in it using knit/purl. So I need a motif chart.

Where can I get one for a heart and star? Thanks!

10:44 pm - Yarn substitute

stdyncntrsts
I've fallen in love with the Roped Shell featured in the new Interweave Knits. Unfortunately, at $22 a pop, I can't afford the yarn, Filatura di Crosa Luxury (100% silk). Know any good substitutes?

And while you're at it, check out my knitting blog: jetricote.blogspot.com

6:21 am - Charity knitting- Oxfam, uk-centric

flissypop
I didn't see anything else about this, going back through recent posts, so I thought I would pop something up. It seems like something some of you might be interested in.

Oxfam are calling for knitters/crocheters to make squares for a giant baby blanket to be presented at Downing Street in September. Every square will represent a mother who has not survived her pregnancy because she could not get access to adequate medical care. They need 250,000 squares.

Anyway, if you are interested in helping out, or you know of any knitters or crocheters who would like to lend a hand, all the details you need are on these two sites.

7:41 pm - Broadripple Socks?

snowmoon3
So, I'm thinking about starting the Broadripple Socks from Knitty. My question is mostly about yarn choice.

The yarn in the pattern is cascade fixation which is dk weight. I don't really have any appropriate dk weight yarn in the stash. I do have panda cotton which contains elastic so i was thinking about using that - thing is that it's thinner, thoughts?

littleanomaly
Hello, does anyone have a sailor hat pattern? Knit or crochet, either way is fine, it just needs to fit a 0-12 month baby.

Thanks!!

3:14 pm - Fingerless Mitts

igina
I had mentioned that i was making these for my sister-in-law earlier and asked for patterns. I ended up using the Raging Fingerless Gloves pattern. They turned out pretty well. The one problem came when I realized my double points did not make the move, Hopefully and most likely they are still at my mom's house. But I got out crochet hooks of the same size and did the thumb. That was an adventure.

But there are pictures

My new project for myself are these Punk Rock Corset Gloves. However, I'm having problems with the applied i-cord trim.  There will be pictures when I am done with them.

My best friends just had a daughter on Wednesday. Since I don't have a lot of free time, I started knitting for them months ago, and I washed & put the finishing touches on the jacket this week:

7:50 am - Kellokukka Shawl - Finnish to English Translation

pfarfigknittin
Thank you to those of you who offered your translating services for the Kellokukka Shawl.

For those of you who want an English translation of the shawl for yourself:
I emailed Elina (the designer) for permission to ask for a translation and also to see if she had any plans to offer a translation on her website.  She alerted me that  does have a friend working on the translation, which she plans to make available on her website as a pdf during the next week.  She sent me the "raw translation" to edit through for her, but asked me not to send it on to anyone else since it is a raw translation.  So keep an eye on her site and on Ravelry for the English version!!

7:02 pm - WWKIPDay

loveasaverb
Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let anyone in Montreal know about the World-Wide Knit in Public Day meetup on Saturday, June 14th.. I'm still not sure why kip needs its own day but if you want to join in the fun, come to Parc Lafontaine at noon (or probably anytime until sundown).

Description from Montreal Knits:
How to get there:
Across from Centre Culturel Calixa-Lavallée

Please bring:
Snacks, water, sunscreen and anything you desire. And your knitting.

The backup plan is:
We don't have one: if it rains, we'll either meet at a favorite LYS or one of our usual haunts. Don't know what we're talking about? Better visit our dotcom to find out more...

This KIP is not knitting exclusive
There are free bathrooms available nearby

Anyone going?

9:34 am - How much yarn do I have?

damnham
How can I tell how much yarn I have left in a skein? The only answer I've been able to find is that you weigh a yard and then weigh your ball. Well, I don't have a scale, let alone one that is capable of measuring such small amounts. Any other advice?

11:15 am - works in progress

triathgirl

I don’t think I’ve actually ever posted before, merely left comments. Hello! *waves*

Because I find it a pain the behind, I'm not going to post pics of my current things on needles.  Instead, I am going to provide you with a lovely link to my flickr photostream. That way you can browse at your own leisure.

Works In Progress

I picked up some yarn two days ago for the Lucy In the Sky cardigan (light green) , and I ordered some  yarn for this Thermal (in violet).   I want to make my mom something for her birthday.  She doesn't really know what she wants, and since we're in separate states right now, it's difficult for me to help her look around at patterns and yarns. Her birthday is in July, so I guess I'll have about a month after I return Home to find a pattern, find yarn and make it. I'd like to do a sweater or cardigan, but it is her birthday, so if she wants something like socks or a rug, no problem.   I'm also trying to plan ahead for my great-grandmother's birthday (Thanksgiving)- I want to find a lace shawl or scarf pattern and I know that lace will take me a really long time because I can't do other things while counting stitches (no tv, no audiobooks, no people...)
