About
This is a community for anyone for whom the 2004 presidential election will be the first one in which they are eligible to vote. Whether you turned 18 the day after the 2000 election, or will turn 18 the day of the 2004 one, this is a place for you! As a United States citizen of legal age, it's your civic duty and right to have a say in who will be our next president, and this is a place to talk about anything pertaining to the election, the candidates, and their stance on various issues. Since we all know political discussion can sometimes get quite heated, here are a few ground rules for the community.

1. This is a community intended for political discussion and debate among first-time voters. Therefore, you can post your opinions about the candidates, running mates, etc, and no matter which side of the fence you're on, your opinions are encouraged here. However, keep in mind that your stance on a candidate or an issue may be challenged, disagreed with, or debated by other community members. If this is something that you don't think you can handle, you might want to reconsider posting here. There are pro- and anti- communities out there for both Bush and Kerry, so if you're interested in a community of like-minded individuals, just type the candidate's name into the interest search.

2. While debate is encouraged, bashing is not. If you'd like to express your disapproval of a candidate, provide reasons beyond "He sucks." Please do not make personal attacks on any members of the community. Any concerns with community members can be directed to Heather ([info]berryblast), and hopefully a solution can be reached. Do not complain about someone simply because they disagree with you; do so only if you feel that you are genuinely being harassed.

3. When you join, just post this quick little survey so we can get an idea of who you are-
-First name:
-Age:
-State:
-Party that you register as:
-Who is getting your vote?

4. You are welcome and encouraged to post news articles, interviews, etc. that you think are important for everyone to see. Just make sure to include a link to where you found it, and also, if you are going to post a picture or a lengthy text entry (whether it is your own writing or an article from elsewhere), please use the lj-cut tag.

And, there you have it! Now get posting! Opinions, questions, comments, information, article links, anything at all! :)
