| SVH TV -- Episode 1.16 Love On The Line |
[Jul. 2nd, 2009|05:51 pm] |
Ooh, I'm onto disc three of my box set now. You feel that? That's pure excitement flowing through your veins. Feels good, don't it? This episode is all about Enid, who is volunteering to be a phone operator for a teen hotline with Manny and Patty and all the other forgotten Sweet Valley kids. Instead of helping out a teen in need, however, Enid's scoring dates. She truly has been hanging around Jessica Wakefield too long.

( At last! Some Enid love...literally. ) |

| SVH TV Series: 1.15: Stolen Diary |
[Jun. 27th, 2009|09:46 pm] |
Admittedly, I haven't read the book on which this pearler of an episode is based, so I'm walking into this a little blind here. This particular ep, I'm sorry to say, is lame with a capital L. It reaches never-before-seen levels of lameness. I cannot believe this shit actually went to air. But if I had to suffer through it, so do you. So sit down and shut up. I mean it.
( Elizabeth and Todd break up...kinda... )

Back when this book came out it took me months to buy it. Months! Possibly more than 12! Because the cover is so embarrassing.

I mean, seriously! I may have kept reading these books even if I considered myself too old for them, but I at least had some self respect.
Except I bought it eventually. Take that, self respect!

| Sweet Valley High TV Series -- Season 1, Episode 9: Coma |
[Jun. 17th, 2009|02:23 pm] |
And yes, I realise that this is my second post in as many days, but I've come to realise that the TV show recaps are far less time-consuming, and they're also a little addictive. Okay, back to the recap.
If you're anything like me, I'm sure you realise that there are a number of things that go on in the Sweet Valley books you literally CANNOT make a TV series without mentioning. At least one dead boyfriend, Heriocally Deaf Regina (still waiting on that one...) and, of course, the personality-altering motorbike accident that left Elizabeth in a very non-Elizabeth state of mind. Nine episodes into the first season, and we're there. To be honest, this is actually a pretty shit episode. The acting's all over the place, the tension is kind-of nonexistent, but as you can tell from everything I've been able to tag, it's Sweet Valley just as we love it. And oh yeah, I've included screencaps, because sometimes my descriptions of the absurdity going on in front of me just won't do. Here's your first, for viewing pleasure:
( It can only get worse from here. )

| SVH TV Series -- Season 1, Episode 7: The Curse of Lawrence Manson |
[Jun. 15th, 2009|10:28 pm] |
Thanks to the modern-day wonder that is eBay, I recently acquired the first season of Sweet Valley High, and I'm not disappointed. It's trashy, it's cheesy -- it's absolutely everything a TV show based on the SV books ought to be. I love it. And while the first six episodes were pretty much Jessica doing something sociopathic and then getting her comeuppance in the end, this one finally took a different road. Don't worry, comeuppance is dished out. A moral lesson is learned. It's just not Jessica this time. (She never seems to learn, anyway.) This episode is absurdly hillarious, as you will soon discover.
( Keep reading...if you dare... ) |

| Is that an SVH book I see before me? |
[Jun. 4th, 2009|02:57 pm] |
So it's my summer vacation and I was feeling very, very bored, so I decided to Wikipedia SVH...and in the "pop culture references" I saw that SVH made an appearance in a music video by tommy february6!
"Wait," Emily said to herself. "But I LOVE tommy february6! How did I not notice this before?"
And so I dug out the PV from the depths of my hard drive, and lo and behold...

| SVK #61 - Scaredy-Cat Elizabeth |
[Jun. 4th, 2009|02:07 pm] |

Does anyone know when the SVK books stopped being written in the 3rd person and instead were narrated by either Jess or Liz? Very odd.
Anyway, this awesome piece of Literature (with a capital "L") is narrated by Liz and revolves around a bully named Patty who moves to Sweet Valley and picks on Liz. As a subplot, an exciting science fair is going on! Will Liz win?
( In which Liz is a twerp and a 'big' girl is a bully ) |

I don't think my last recap was very snarkable & also i really stupidly could not figure out how to put it behind an LJ cut, even with several people's help (permission to delete! If this one doesn't work, feel free to delete as well & I'll try to sort it out), but i was at an awesome charity shop down the road the other day & found this one: Lois & the Sleepover. I never had this one as a kid & was a bit dissapointed that there were none I have read, to bring back the memories but oh well! ( no more fun... ) |

| SVH gets a Gawker shout out. |
[May. 27th, 2009|02:17 pm] |
Richard Lawson does the most hilarious and random recaps of The Real Housewives of New Jersey (and The Real Housewives of New York City when it was in full swing). In today's recap of Jersey, he made a full paragraph of SVH references. See Paragraph 5 here.
While there were some errors (i.e. Ned is a lawyer and not an architect), I thought it was pretty brilliant. |

Sweet Valley Kids Super Snooper #6: The Case of the Million-Dollar Diamonds

Hey all~ Just found the community after reading my first Sweet Valley book in a long while (it was THE EVIL TWIN, what a trip), and then I decided to do a recap of one of my SVK books.
( Well... Here it is! )
I actually thought the whole thing was going to end up being something that Mr. Wakefield arranged as a Christmas gift for the girls or something. Somehow, that would make more sense. |

| SVU Thriller Edition #15: Loving The Enemy |
[May. 20th, 2009|04:29 pm] |
SVU Thriller Edition #15: Loving The Enemy Firstly, I should start off by saying that I’m the 1bruce1 equivalent of “long-time listener, first-time caller.” This was my absolute favourite SVU book when I was a younger, and I couldn’t believe nobody had recapped it yet. So, considering I love snarking and I love Sweet Valley (match made in heaven, I know), I thought I’d pop my recapping cherry on this beauty. I’ll only say one thing about the image on the cover. ( Even though it's pretty much screaming, "Mock me! Mock me!") Where the hell did they get that Ben Affleck look-alike from? Seriously. He looks more like an Affleck than Casey does. And please note that Ben-Again thought it’d be a good idea to rob a diner in a lilac shirt that looks like pyjamas. Mmm, no wonder Jessica’s in love with the enemy when he takes his fashion cues from Joe Pesci in Home Alone crossed with Bedtime Ken. ( Read on... ) |

| SVT #25 - Standing Out |
[Apr. 29th, 2009|10:37 pm] |
Hiiiiii! I just read my first SVT book and it was sooooo good I had to share it! ...err, okay, snark it. :D I grew up reading SVH -- and obsessively re-reading (I'll spare you the gory details of how anal I was about this). I remember lamenting the fact that I was too old to read the Twins' series when it came out. Hee! BUT ALAS, THIS COMMUNITY HAS GIVEN ME NEW REASON TO VENTURE FORTH INTO SVT.

( Hey girls! Wanna be popular? Just put on a dress! )

I've been pestering irinaauthor with ideas for stupid SV related shirts. I just feel that we have a lot of funny slogans and funny slogans should be on t-shirts. So now I've progressed from annoying Irina to annoying the group at large.

| SVU #47, "You're Not My Sister" |
[Mar. 17th, 2009|02:17 pm] |
|
This is the last book in this horrible miniseries, so you know in this majestic tome there is going to be a reconciliation between the twins, and the revealing of Jessica’s Mystery Stalker! I don’t want to spoil you, but there are also CONDOMS in this book. Not literally condoms; that would be weird. But somebody buys some! Or thinks about buying some!
