| About: | This is a group for discussion of 19th century British Literature. Please everybody feel free to introduce topics of discussion and make a point of joining in discussions. Also, please pimp this community to your friends who might be interested! Feel free to promote other communities that relate to the subject of 19thc British literature. In a group like this disagreement is to be expected, even welcomed (as William Blake says, "Opposition is true friendship"), but disagreement can be voiced without flaming or name-calling. Excessive flaming will result in the person's unceremonious booting from the group. I hope that our discussion will be as wide-ranging as possible. Everyone will have different authors they particularly like--feel free to tell us why! Possible topics: personal reflections on what 19th c. Brit authors mean to us, discussion of favorite quotes, influence of 19th c. British lit on our popular culture, movies made of 19th c. Brit lit texts (why we hate or love them!), connections with 19th c. Brit. society, history, attitudes, issues, visual arts, authors' lives--whatever interests you, go for it! I'd prefer that posts don't go extremely far OT, but as we're a community, we should feel free to share major events and issues in our own lives as we get to know each other--maybe our authors will turn out to be relevant! So, as Jim Morrison (who was influenced by Blake) would say, let's "break on through to the other side!" :-) |
