18th_c_writing is devoted to discussion, analysis, and appreciation of British (including American) writing of the "long" 18th Century--that is, approximately, from the English Restoration (1660) to the French Revolution (1789) and slightly beyond. Literature-wise, this would include all prose fiction between (and including) Aphra Behn and Jane Austen, and all poetry between (but not including) John Milton and William Blake. That is, we're dealing with post-Renaissance, pre-Romantic writing and literature. All kinds of writing--literary (including "popular"/"non-canonical" literature), historical, philosophical, political, personal (i.e., journals, diaries, letters), and so forth--are open for discussion.
Although the focus here is on English-language writing, you are more than welcome to discuss non-English literatures from this period.
New-member introductions are encouraged.
