^_^
So lol a few days ago a "health care policy advisor" for McCain told the Dallas Morning News that "nobody in the United States is technically uninsured, because everyone has access to hospital emergency rooms."

Then the McCain campaign told everyone that he's not actually an official campaign adviser, even though he apparently helped write McCain's health care plan.

'cause, you know, access to those ERs doesn't actually guarantee treatment. If the doctors don't consider one's condition as an emergency, well, one's out of luck. Sry suckas, see ya later.

I guess if I ever forget that people are stupid, this'll remind me.

Everyone else probably got this message, but yeah, a summary:

  • Strikethrough of deleted and suspended usernames are back!

  • Sale, sale, one year paid subscriptions!

Is this the eerie calm before another wank-producing boo-boo where everyone is like, "ZOMG Y I BUY PAID ACCOUNT", or what? ;)

I... sort of want to go read some brain-breaking bad!fic now.
I have no idea why. =|

Finally forced myself to finish watching Death Note. The only thing I really hate (well, no, actually that's two things) has to be the second OP and ED songs. I mean WTF? That OP theme sucks big time. The worst I've seen in... forever.

ETA: Okay, you stupid fuck-ass eL-Jay. WTF is up with those big-ass ads? WHAT IS THIS NEW SHIT? >:/

So I've been playing around on NationStates these days, and I can't believe I didn't find out about it until a few weeks ago when it's been around since 2003.

Basics: You get your own country, you have (an) issue(s) to ponder every (week)day, and you watch how your decisions change your country. I like the simulation, and it's interesting to see the issues that come up.

Anyone want to play with me? :33 I have two countries on there; Liyi, my sensible country, and Renxin, my personal dictatorship. XD;;;; Let's own countries together! ♥

It's sort of strange to think that I haven't completed a fic since [info]yuletide. I've done some writing here and there, but I feel so unmotivated, as always. :( I wrote a ten-page outline for a troika dystopia, but after writing about 1000 words of the actual fic, I just stopped. The words are always in my mind, but I never want to write them down. Without deadlines, I'm hopeless, but with them I suck. Alas, life.

Now I want to write dumb(& not so dumb) Akatsuki university fic, because apparently those don't exist. :3333

Anime: Tenshi na Konamaiki

*head desks* TAT My entry... is gone... *sighs* I was typing a quick review about this series when suddenly my window got stuck. ;_; Fine! >_<

Title: Tenshi na Konamaiki (Cheeky Angel)
Overall Plot:
Amatsuka Megumi is a 15th-year-old highschool student everyone admires/adores/worships/whatever (boys and girls alike). However, she isn't just a pretty, weak-looking, rich ojou-sama, in fact, in the past she used to be a he (actually, it's kind of unclear whether Megumi is really a guy or a girl). Which explains why Megumi uses "ore" to address herself often, why she prides herself to know only man pride, why she doesn't get scared of perverts in dark alleys etcetera. Megumi's wish got him in trouble when he asked the fairy  jester Pierrot, who had offered to grant Megumi a wish, to become the "man of men"; Megumi turned into "woman of women" instead.
With Miki, Megumi's best friend/childhood friend, and some tag-alongs (Genzo, Fujiki, Yasuda and later on Kobayashi), they try to find out how to reverse the spell (actually, there isn't much magic involved in my opinion).

SO
I just started watching Jekyll from the BBC yesterday, online.

I think I'm going to buy it! Not only am I impressed by the main actor's ability and interested by the storyline, but pretty much every single female character on that show is incredibly kickass without ever needing to whip out some martial arts skills.

knowledge is power
So I read my first Chinese book since I left China. 91k words in ~3 days, give or take, while waiting for firefox to unfreeze to read more Naruto fic, and I've forgotten the beauty that is the Chinese language on paper. I read a lot of science books and folktales when I was young and even a pretty thick history book, but never a work of literary nonfiction (if that even makes sense).

It's different because there are terms that appear predominantly in literature but not in everyday conversation, and I probably won't remember them until the next time I read them in some other text, but I've forgotten (or maybe never knew) just how concise and descriptive the language is, the depth of meaning that can exist in two mere characters. Great poems are made from four lines with five characters each, and that's something English just can't accomplish.

A friend of mine studying linguistics told me that English could be a native language of mine, given that I learned it while I was still young enough, but I struggle with English some times because my syntax is off at times and my choice of prepositions as well. With Chinese, it's pure instinct, especially the sandhi, and it's something I've never felt when I use English.

Hi, people I friended recently. I've been hanging around Naruto fic lately, and so I did some author friending and some from [info]chuunin's friending meme. I like Akatsuki and Gaara/Naruto. :)

Supernatural
I am so toweringly unimpressed by how all the bad girls seem to be brunettes, all the good--well, not good exactly because girls aren't allowed to be good unless they're one-episode simpering victims/cheerleaders, but recurring non-evil--girls are bleached blondes, (not counting Jo in there, oh Jo HOW I MISS YOU) and not a single female villain (or female non-aligned with the boys) is allowed to be attractive and indifferent to the boys and/or simply a professional doing their (evil or not) stuff.

Also, the excessive angst has gotten supremely tiresome. And freaking boring. They never go anywhere with it.

I was really pissed about 'Heart', actually--Madison was so clearly and utterly offensively being used as an angst vehicle for poor widdle Sammy--since it had no resemblance whatsoever to the usual episode where they work with the mystery of figuring out what it is and how to kill it. It was all 'let's get Sam laid and then kill her so he has an excuse to cry'. Women are such blatant plot points in this series. I'm glad I decided not to buy the third season.

This show oozes misogynism. Dear god.

And the fandom isn't much better: I haven't found a single Jo-centric story where she goes on to be a good hunter and thrives in the profession, it's all bitterness and toughness and cynicism and a thick, cloying underlayer of 'oh, she really couldn't handle it and stay/be tough and bright and satisfied with her life, she has to be miserable because obviously DEAN HAS TO BE RIGHT' and I'm freaking tired of it.

Max does not approve.

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

HFPC - The Photographer

Humanity, Foreground, Big Picture, and Color

You perceive the world with particular attention to humanity. You focus on what's in front of you (the foreground) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on humanity, you tend to seek out other people and get energized by being around others. You like to deal directly with whatever comes your way without dealing with speculating possibilities or outcomes you can't control. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow.
