12:43 pm - dumbledore's man through and through, said harry. that's right.

parkergray
Day 162. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The White Tomb.'

I think it's really telling that Harry, Ron and Hermione don't discuss anything in front of Gin. In fact, it sounds as if they actively wait for her to leave what with 'The moment the door had closed behind her, Hermione leaned forward...'R.A.B.?' said Harry, sitting up straight.'

And that right there is the main problem I have with Harry and Gin. I like that it makes Harry happy and some of their stuff (the first kiss) is totally fucking adorable. But.

Why don't they talk about this stuff in front of her? Because Dumbledore told him only to talk to Ron and Hermione?

It just seems like Gin could help, what with being possessed by him and all.

I don't know. Harry says it himself - that it feels like someone else's life. Which brings us to their conversation at Dumbledore's funeral.

So painful. So ridiculous. It kinda makes me want to throw shit.

First - when Harry thinks that they 'understood each other perfectly' I want to throw things (again, some more). Because as much as I love Harry, he does not need someone encouraging his insane behaviour. He needs Ron and Hermione saying, 'Are you fucking kidding me with this hero stands alone crap?'

Second - Voldemort did NOT choose Gin to get to Harry in CoS. Lucius chose Gin to try and discredit Arthur. Something Dumbledore TOLD him, not that long ago.

Third - 'It's been like...like something out of someone else's life.' Self-explanatory.

Fourth - Gin starts out strong, what with 'What if I don't care?' but then she just completely backs down. 'Maybe that's why I like you so much?' You like him because he's going to run off, alone, and get himself killed? Just. God. Stand UP to him.

I will stop now, becuase I could go on all day.

And now for the good stuff -

Harry's talk with Scrimgeour. Just the whole fucking thing is brilliant.

I get a little...tingle or something when Harry says, 'and I'm the one who's going to kill him.' Positive thinking, my man. I heartily approve.

Hermione KILLS me with 'You said to us once before...that there was time to turn back if we wanted to. We've had time, haven't we?'

Finally - TRIO. Omg. *sniff*

And now for the great stuff -

LESS THAN TWELVE HOURS! WHEE!

10:08 am - i am good-looking enough for both of us, i theenk!

parkergray
Day 161. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Phoenix Lament.'

Okay, this is going to be a lot of ranting about Harry. Just to give you warning. Because the beginning of this chapter makes me want to grab him and try to shake some sense in to him.

First - I will eat my shoe if that is the real reason Dumbledore trusted Snape. Lupin says it best with 'He believed that?' Harry is being so obtuse here - Dumbledore is not going to trust someone because they said, 'Oops. My bad.' This was a man who suspected an eleven-year old and kept an eye on him for YEARS. I think Snape had to do a little more than 'I feel really bad about Lily and James.' Give me a break.

Second - the way everyone else just swallows what he's saying. I guess the fact that he killed Dumbledore helps *g* and no one else was around when it happened, but. They all show complete faith in Dumbledore and this was the one thing he was absolutely ADAMENT about and now they just accept that he was wrong? I don't know.

Third - it makes me go AWW when Harry is still faithful to Dumbledore when McGonagall is asking him what went on, and where they went, etc. But again. He is Dumbledore's man (not to get ahead of ourselves or anything...), yet he won't believe Dumbledore about this one thing. Of course, Snape never helped his cause. Since he got pleasure out of making an eleven-year olds life hell, so.

Why can't we all just get along? For serious.

In much more fun happenings, Fleur's smackdown of Molly is, honestly, one of my favourite moments in any of the books. It is absolutely glorious.

The Tonks and Lupin thing is RIDICULOUS. Like, for serious? It comes out of left fucking field (and I get that we see everything from Harry's perspective, but could they have at least SPOKEN TO EACH OTHER before this?) and she almost withers away because of it? The whole thing is stupid. Plus, Sirius and Remus were OTP, so. *g*

At last, it is lovely to think about Fawkes singing through this entire chapter.

8:38 pm - and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, potter!

parkergray
Day 160. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Flight of the Prince.'

Before I get into the complicated stuff, the first thing that struck me is when Harry uses Petrificus Totalus on the Death Eater. It's...interesting to me that the spells we see them use are the same ones, over and over from the beginning of the series. Yeah, more have been added to their repetoire, but those solid foundations are still there. And just PT has changed - in the first book Hermione uses it as a last resort, apologizing to Neville as she does so. And here Harry just tosses it off.

And now for the other stuff. Snape and all that jazz.

I agree with [info]zorb, yo - that this chapter proves that Snape was acting on Dumbledore's orders.

He's fucking terrified. Not to mention pissed beyond belief.

I don't believe for a second that he ever wanted it to go that far. Whatever that far was. *g*

Plus, he's still teaching Harry. As we've discussed before, his teaching leaves something to be desired and he's still a vindictive, childish bastard what with the constant. mentioning. of. James but he's still trying to tell Harry something.

I just wish to God Harry would listen. That he would pay attention for once and stop with the good/evil and black/white and Slytherinsareallebil thing he has. Blinders, anyone? From a stray comment Hagrid made back when he was eleven, he decided that anyone, or anything, to do with Slytherin was evil. Speaking of childish...

Anyway.

Yeah.

Sometimes I wish Hermione had been around for that fight. You can bet your bottom dollar, she would have been like 'Hey, jackass! Listen to what he's saying!'

So, yes. Snape = not evil. Not that he's all goodness and light, but. Yeah.

Oh, also - go Regulus! 'Cause we all agree that RAB is Remus's brother, right?

8:52 pm - killing is not nearly as easy as the innocent believe

parkergray
Day 159. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Lightening-Struck Tower.'

I don't even know what to say about this chapter.

First things first - I feel so, so very sorry for Draco. Talk about a little boy who's just in over his head. And though it is kind-of long and meandering and...strange (possibly because it's not Harry and Dumbledore having the end-of-the-book recap), I absolutely ADORE Draco and Dumbledore's discussion.

I must say, Draco's plan was pretty good.

Okay.

That's the easy stuff. Now on to the hard.

Dumbledore. And Snape.

I just...don't believe it's as simple as all that.

For one - there is no way that Dumbledore couldn't have disarmed Draco, then immobilized Harry.

Then there's the end.

I just don't think Dumbledore was pleading with Snape for his life. From the moment they get back to Hogsmeade, he's saying he wants Severus. That sort-of single-mindedness seems odd of Dumbledore, if you're assuming all he wants is something for the potion he drank.

It just feels off, somehow. As does the pleading at the end. It doesn't come off as pleading for his life so much as pleading for Severus to do...something. Something previously agreed upon. Like his note to Petunia at the beginning of OotP. Dumbledore's a long-winded guy, but when he has understandings with people, he's straight-to-the point.

Of course, all this might be my crazy talking because if Snape is really evil-evil, I will have to do something drastic. If he is, I feel like that negates almost everything we know about Dumbledore and, by extension, the wizarding world.

I don't know. I guess we'll find out in about 75 hours.

I'm going to go throw up now.

10:02 pm - i taught tom riddle. i know his style.

parkergray
Day 158. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Cave.'

I love, love, love the line '...bangs and smoke were more often the marks of ineptitude than expertise.'

Just, you know. It's awesome. *g*

Okay, so, the chapter. Harry and Dumbledore's one adventure together. It goes...okay.

It's a bit too Lord of the Rings for my liking, but it's still cool. An army of the undead, floating in a black lake, guarding a fragment of soul? Awesome. And also freaky.

I love watching Dumbledore work everything out, but it's also scary. Harry is supposed to do this how? Of course, he'll have Ron and Hermione with him (supposing he doesn't try to ditch them in some fit of heroism or something), but still. It's daunting.

All I could really think during the entire chapter was it's a good thing Voldemort is an egotistical, self-aggrandizing bastard. Seriously. If I was cutting up my soul and storing it in different places to help me in my quest for immortality, I'd probably go with Harry's thought of a boot or a teaspoon. Something that, if thrown in the bin, would last forevermore in a dump. I get that it's a piece of your soul, so you probably want a little more pomp and circumstance than, say, a teaspoon, but, on the other hand, this is a guy who was bent on splitting his soul into seven pieces. SEVEN.

Of course, you'd probably also want to be able to find them again, eh?

Anyway.

But my favourite part of the entire chapter?

Dumbledore being disappointed in Voldemort, with the blood sacrifice at the door. 'So crude.' Hee!

parkergray
Day 157. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Seer Overheard.'

Other things happen in this chapter but - WHAT THE HELL DID SNAPE DO TO MAKE DUMBLEDORE TRUST HIM LIKE THAT?

And the trio KILLS me. They just own my soul, man.

3:38 pm - i won't say I told you so

parkergray
Day 156. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'Sectumsempra.'

I kind of love it a lot when Harry freaks out about using that curse on Malfoy. It's like when Harry tries to Crucio Bellatrix in OotP - he is a fundamentally good person. He doesn't have it in him to torture or harm like that. He doesn't like Malfoy, but he wouldn't want to truly, truly harm him.

Hermione is right on, my friends. You don't go around casting spells when you have no idea what they're going to do. They've already had this discussion when Harry uses the levitating one on Ron and she points out it has been used for nefarious purposes in the past. Then to turn around and shout something from the same source, but this one labelled 'for enemies'? Come on, Harry! At least research it first.

And here we go - the Ginny stuff.

I don't know, man.

I get all smiley when Harry finally kisses her. And it is a great first kiss. *g*

But all the stuff at the beginning of the chapter? It just feels...off. SHOW, don't tell, yo.

3:17 pm - the diary had been intended as a weapon as much as a safeguard

parkergray
Day 155. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'Horcruxes.'

Let me just say upfront that I love and adore this chapter. It's so interesting. I'm just going to go with bulletpoints, but it may descend into rambling...

- I ♥ the Fat Lady. 'I lied! It's still tapeworm!'

- I love the fact that you have to kill to split your soul. It is absolutely psychotic - murder is already against nature, but then to turn around and use it to your advantage like that? Truly, truly awesome.

- I also love that Tom completely ignores the part about splitting your soul being against nature, that it should stay in one piece and jumps straight to 'but wouldn't seven pieces be better, stronger?' I wonder what cames first, though? The drive to make himself immortal, or did he learn about horcruxes and decide that since he was already murdering people, he might as well go ahead and use those torn pieces as insurance? Probably wanting to be immortal.

- Finally an explanation for the diary! It never really made sense, that some sort of charm could do that and I love that Lucius used it for his own reasons.

- Oh, God. The whole part about the last Horcrux and whether he was intending to do it with Harry's murder.

Just.

If Harry is the last Horcrux I will weep bitter, bitter tears.

It would be fantastically cool - part of my soul is in you, so to kill me, you must kill yourself. However. When Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow, he didn't know that he wouldn't be able to kill Harry and from comments he himself has made, he didn't even realize what had happened (that Harry survived because of Lily sacrificing herself) until Harry told him.

But, really, all that whole thought train does is lead us to be big question, which is - WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED IN GODRIC'S HOLLOW?

- And then, oh. The end. With Harry realizing why love, and his ability to love, is the key. I just. I love Harry so much. There are no words for it.

3:10 pm - you'd cancel out anything you did by giving me the memory

parkergray
Day 154. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'After the Burial.'

I'm totally with Ron and Hermione on this one. I'm sorry that Hagrid's upset, but you have GOT to be kidding me.

Of course, this reaction might be because Hagrid makes me CRAZY. Is it supposed to be, what?, endearing that Hagrid still doesn't realize that monsters are sometimes just that?

It's interesting to see Harry wheedling the memory out of Slughorn, considering the wheedling we see IN the memory.

I also like the description of what it's like to be on Felix Felicis.

3:06 pm - i need to see what draco malfoy is doing inside of you

parkergray
Day 153. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Unknowable Room.'

I love that we get Harry being a grown-up about Snape for once. '...he had disagreed with Snape on the best way to tackle Dementors' - which is simply about that, not some veiled thing about his father or Snape's questionable loyalty or Sirius. Too bad it doesn't last for long, eh?

And Harry telling an eleven-year old female Goyle that she is 'very pretty' is pretty much hysterical.

12:42 pm - oh, he definitely wanted the defense against the dark arts job

parkergray
Day 152. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'Lord Voldemort's Request.'

I ♥ the fact that Harry's scared of Hermione figuring out what he's thinking about Ginny and Dean. So funny.

I also love Ron and Luna. Ron needs someone like that - someone who doesn't give a toss what anyone thinks. Not necessarily as a love interest, but just in his life. And as we all know, Luna's awesome anyway.

Dumbledore continues to be a badass. I love that he won't let Tom ruffle him. Can you imagine how fucking maddening that must be for him? He's had people scraping and prostrating themselves and here's this guy who just WON'T. This is probably why Harry continues to grate the way he does. *g*

And so we finally know - the DaDA job IS cursed.

parkergray
Day 151. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'Elf Tails.'

Luna commentating and Harry running from McLaggen and Lavendar are things of beauty. As is Harry's little daydream about Ginny weeping over his 'lifeles form' and confessing her 'deep attraction' to him. That is soap opera-worthy, my friends; it makes me howl.

And even though Harry's insane, his plan to get Dobby and Kreacher to follow Malfoy is pretty good. As is his instruction to stick to him 'like wart plasters.'

Day 147. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'The Unbreakable Vow.'

I think Snape's an immature, vindictive bastard, but I really really don't think he's evil. Not hoodwinking-Dumbledore-secretly-working-for-Voldemort-this-whole-time eeevil. You know?

And Draco's just a little boy in over his head.

Harry just thinks he's so clever, doesn't he? *g*

And the romantic shenanigans reach new heights in this one, eh? I do appreciate Gin's smackdown of Ron, but I feel that it's a bit much when she crashes in to the announcer's podium.

Of course, Fred and George might have done the same thing.

Day 144. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 'Silver and Opals.'

I can see why Hermione gets upset with him doing random spells from the book, without even trying to figure out what they're going to do first.

I also love that it's just a laugh, then the bottom drops out when Hermione mentions the World Cup. Beautiful.

And this is also the most depressing trip to Hogsmeade ever. It's not fun, but it's not horrible either. It's just...blah. Kinda like Tonks. *g*
