Doug and Abbey
Doug: Doug sighs, working on his laptop. He was not going to just sit around with this injury.
Abbey: Abbey walks in with her lab coat on. Having gotten her license back, she helped in the hospital once in a while, "Douglas." She nods to him, smiling as she walks in the room.
Doug: He nods. "Abbey."
Abbey: "You were pretty doped up earlier when I came to see you." She checks his chart.
Doug: "Yeah. I asked to stay lucid."
Abbey: She nods, "Just don't be stubborn if the pain is too bad."
Doug: "Don't be ridiculous. I can handle it."
Abbey: "I mean it." She nods, "You're like my husband with that, believe it or not."
Doug: He rolls his eyes. "This is stupid. I can put off this repair."
Abbey: "You can't. You put it off for too long as it is."
Doug: "Bah."
Abbey: "Think I'm kidding?" She glances to him.
Doug: "I think it's overreacting."
Abbey: "You completely ruined your knee, Doug."
Doug: "It wasn't my fault."
Abbey: "Whose fault was it?"
Doug: He looks away.
Abbey: She sits on the side of his bed, "Believe it or not, Doug, I'm a doctor...Hell, I'm even a surgeon. Even though this isn't my area of specialty, I know what I'm talking about."
Doug: "I know my body."
Abbey: "Do you? If you know it, you don't listen to it."
Doug: "I was just fine. I don't have time for this."
Abbey: "Fine. Then go." She puts the chart back, "No one is stopping you.
Doug: He moves to get up, trying to get his leg out of the sling. "A little help."
Abbey: She shakes her head, "Maybe it's a hint."
Doug: "Stupid sling." He winces when he bends the knee.
Abbey: She smiles, "Want some more medicine?"
Doug: "No."
Abbey: She sighs, shaking her head, "I'll be taking care of the children at home"
Doug: "There's no need. I called Sally."
Abbey: "Well that's too bad because Elizabeth asked me to. And what she wants stands because her husband is too damn stupid to think of anything else except looking manly."
Doug: "I don't want them uprooted."
Abbey: "Did you not just hear what I said?"
Doug: He rolls his eyes. "He's not up to it."
Abbey: "Who isn't?"
Doug: "Your husband."
Abbey: "He isn't a factor."
Doug: "You are here. He's watching them."
Abbey: "And he's fine."
Doug: "You just said he wasn't a factor."
Abbey: "He isn't. I'm not here every day. Came in today to check a patient and to check on you."
Doug: "My children were fine with Sally." He's grumpy when he's in pain.
Abbey: "They didn't want her."
Doug: "They love her."
Abbey: "Not today they didn't. Jay was screaming, Gus was locked in his room, and Gail wanted nothing to do with the girl. She wanted a mother, which, I am."
Doug: "She could have stayed with Lizzie."
Abbey: "Your wife doesn't want to deal with the kids right now. Stop acting like a jackass." She adjusts his drip, "You should take some medication.
Doug: "Because you and Jed always interfere with Annie and Lizzie. She can be a parent. Damnit. She's plenty grown."
Abbey: "
Abbey: She raises her eyebrow, "Annie is a wonderful mother, as is Lizzie. I never said they weren't."
Doug: "You don't have to keep Annie."
Abbey: She sighs, putting medicine into his drip, "You don't have to worry about them."
Doug: "Her." He corrects. "My little girl."
Abbey: "My little girl, Doug. She wants nothing to do with you. Never has."
Doug: "You won't let me take care of her. I can take them to London. They'd like it."
Abbey: "They don't want to go. They don't like you. Lizzie has her own boyfriend that she's happy with." She had finally calculated the year rage he was talking of, "She didn't want to get married to you. Jed made her."
Doug: "We're married. She misses me. She calls me sometimes."
Abbey: "Sometimes being the key word."
Doug: "Because you won't let her call. That Mallory has to give her calling cards."
Abbey: "I let her call plenty. It's her choice. She doesn't feel like calling you."
Doug: "You've shipped her off to Washington. You don't even want to see her."
Abbey: "That isn't true. She didn't want to be in New Hampshire."
Doug: "She told me everything. How you and your husband wanted to send her off. The threats he made."
Abbey: "And when you act like this, maybe he should have taken them. You know who talked him out of it? Me. So shut your mouth."
Doug: "I love her. I didn't know how young she was. I told you. And I'm going to do my best to give them everything they could ever want. My daughter will have whatever she wants."
Abbey: "So do that and shut up. Be the best father you are able to be."
Doug: "I'm trying Dr. Bartlet." He grunts. "Just tell the Professor."
Abbey: "Stop talking."
Doug: He winces. "Kay." He was really hurting.
Abbey: She watches the medicine drip, "Have a nice nap."
Doug: "I'm not sleepy."
Abbey: "You will be."
Doug: He swallows. "I want my Lizzie."
Abbey: "I'll call her when you wake up."
Doug: "Now."
Abbey: "Go to sleep, Doug." She finishes checking everything before walking out of his room.
Doug: He passes out.
