Living in Silence
General
G - PG

Words are always misinterpreted. That's why I keep my silence. I rarely speak. I only..

Look.
Smile is particularly radiant today.

Watch.
You're interacting with almost everyone with such enthusiasm, as though you've been drugged to feel nothing but happiness.

Observe.
There's a change.. a significant change in you, with you. You're aura's more.. embracing. It's as though it's overflowing with something, that you involuntarily.. /share/ it to almost every person you come across with.

Think.
It's getting to me.. I'm getting high with it. But why... it doesn't feel complete for me.. You're happy.. too happy considering you've just br- Oh no. Please no.

Feel.
She's back. I should have known. She has always been your Juliet, hasn't she? You don't even have to answer. It's not even in your eyes that I saw it. It's here. The moment I felt my heart stopped its beating.

That's it. That's all I do.

Oh yeah. There's one more thing...

That's missing what could have been me & you.

999 call (313)

“There’s a piece missing.”

Jane surveyed the pile of cardboard pieces on the table. She’d upended the box that the jigsaw came in onto the table in the dining room. How she could tell that there was a piece missing I had no idea.

“How on earth can you tell?” I asked her. “It’s a thousand piece jigsaw that you’ve just tipped out into a pile. There’s no way that you could tell that one piece was missing.”

She smiled that infuriating, enigmatic smile of hers, the eyes bright and wide, butter-wouldn’t-melt-in-her-mouth smile. I loathed that smile. It meant that she knew something that I didn’t.

“You haven’t taken a piece, have you?”

“Certainly not,” she replied. “What would be the point of that?”

That was true enough. She was quite right. I’d known her to buy identical jigsaws in the past, in order to make one complete one from two incomplete sets. She liked sets of things; they gave her a feeling of order. If she bought one book of a set she would have to buy the rest. If she didn’t like the story, she would get rid of the odd one, rather than have an incomplete set in the house.

“Why don’t you do the puzzle and see if I’m right?” she challenged.

I sighed. Why not? I thought. I had the time to spare.

It took me a week to prove that she’d been right all along. When I asked her about it again, she let me in on her secret.

“The dog chewed it when I did the puzzle last year,” she told me.

“So why have we kept the jigsaw?”

“It’s a zebra,” she said, as if that was a reason.

It was, of course. I’d forgotten that she liked zebras even more than completeness. When it came to zebras, she was a forty year old child.

He sat like a broken doll, shoulders pressed against the edge of the tub, gray eyes fringed by dirty blond hair, his arms draped over his knees. Somehow he always ended up there, backed into a corner both figuratively and mentally, a cancer stick dangling in his fingers.

“Why must you care about them?” he said - had been saying for a while - in his cold drawling voice. “You always leave me for them. You could be lying in a pool of your own blood and I would never know. They don’t care enough to tell me anything.”

He took another drag on his cigarette, eyes closing against the smoke spilling from his lips. It was so wrong to see him like this, all barriers down, his arrogance the only thing holding him together. He still had the sneer and the voice, but the fire behind it was missing.

The hate was gone, not that I missed it at all.

I looked at the man sitting against the tub, bare feet planted on the floor, knees against his chest, long hair hanging in his eyes and wished for that missing fire. I put the briefcase down and took off my shoes, stepping onto the cold floor and walking over to him. I sat down next to him heedless of how my suit would wrinkle and pulled him against me.

He didn’t resist, curling against me like a lost and lonely child. His breath smelt like sour whiskey and his hair like smoke but it didn’t matter.

“God, I missed you.”

I couldn't tell who said those words first, but the bitter taste in my mouth made the words hurt as I spoke them. I wanted to see him angry, to see that fire, not this broken doll of a man who lapsed into silent neglect without me. I wanted to see his old arrogance and pride and temper. But it was gone like everything else in his life. When I said that I missed him, what I meant was how I knew him, before he was broken and everything that made him went missing.

"He bluffs his pitch, pretending to go for a base runner but instead heads straight for the mitt. The ball lands with a thud, the catcher ground his teeth, even he wasn’t expecting that. How fast could that ball have been going?

Ryu kicks his leg way up for the next one and stumbles back in giggles, kicks again and throws, again catching the batter unaware. Ryu is famous for goofing. More than he is for making the best batters miss."

Dense and hard like a baseball in my gut, I want to take this bundle of emotion and throw it at Ryu sometimes you know. Hit him on the head wherever he may be right now. I hate him for leaving. I throw it at him, but I miss. I am missing him."

He lay on the dirt of the baseball diamond and strikes out the pitches he could have used to make Ryu stay. In his mind he could have said anything, because that would have been worlds better than the nothing that was said. Now Ryu was just worlds away.

Title: The Invisible Silk
Fandom: Original
Rated: G
Notes: Written for a "Journal" that old friends of mine wrote with me.
Characters: My friends and I (under the name "Rainbow")

One day, one of those rare days when Silk was around, the gang decided to throw out some theories to why she was always off in lurk mode. Sad to say, they couldn't think of very many, despite the collective strangeness of their combined imaginations.

Melisssa's theory: Silk had stolen the world's penguin supply and moved to Jersey City.

Alex's theory: Silk became a world traveler and started working for the National Enquirer.

Rainbow's theory: Rainbow could not be reached for comment, as she was watching reruns of 'Get Smart'.

At last, someone hit upon the golden theory--and got sued for theory abuse.

"I've got it," Reesie cried. "Silk made herself invisible!"

The forum-goers gasped in amazement. "I'll bet you're right," they all chorused.

Immediately, the Invisible Silk Theory took hold of the magical land known as the Melisssa's World Forum.

Rissie stared at the Silk person. "You are missing!" she shrieked. "Call the Poliiiice!"

Silk stared at her cronies in amazement. "Am I so transparent?" she asked.

"Well, we'll put it this way: I can see right through you," Alex replied.

"But I'm not invisible," Silk protested.

"Then how do you explain your constant lurk status," Melisssa asked her pointedly.

"Well, I don't know."

"We hardly ever see you," Rissie pointed out. "Ergo, you must be invisible."

"I am?" Silk looked at herself. To her eyes, she was as visible as you could get without overdoing it. "I think I'm here..."

"Sure, you do," Rainbow suddenly put in, turning briefly from the TV set--the show had gone to a commercial--"You see yourself just fine. It's the rest of us who can't see you." She looked around the general area where Silk was standing. "Say, where are you, anyway?"

"I'm right here!"

"Where?"

"Here!"

"Where?"

"Oh...forget it." Silk sighed. "Okay, I am invisible."

Satisfied with the conclusion to the riddle of the Lurking Silk, everyone went back to what they were doing.

~~Moral: Don't argue, even if you think you can see yourself.~~

"Where is it? Where on earth is it?!" Davey grabbed pilles of clothes from his drawers, throwing them over his shoulder, not caring much where they landed behind him. Jade walked in prompted by the scream. He ducked to avoid being plastered in the face by a pair of vinyl pants.

"Where's what?"

"My furby! It's gone! I swear it was right on my dresser last night. I remember putting it there. I remember playing with it and I put it right there!" He jabbed his finger at the empty spot on the dresser. "Now it's not there!"

"It'm sure you just moved--"

"NO! I didn't move it!"

"Maybe it walked away," Hunter laughed as he walked past the room, overhearing the absurd conversation. Furby. He shivered. That thing gave him the creeps. It reminded him of that eightees movie about the little furry thing that split up unto a bunch of evil mutant monsters. He would never admit it to anyone, but that movie had always frightened him. So it was nothing short of a relief that the loathes little ball of fur had went missing. Unfortunately it probably wasn't missing. Knowing Davey he had probably just been playing with it and got bored, throwing it in his closet somewhere. He would find it in a few minutes, and start shreiking in joy, running around the house holding up his prized little toy.

He searched for hours and still no luck. Finally he gave up and flopped onto the couch. "I still can't find him," he pouted. Hunter smiled to himself. Sure, he would eventually find it, but for now he was safe from the horrors of the thing.

It was about three o'clock in the morning and Davey was sitting at his computer. "Davey, what's up? I think your..." He yawned. "Yeah, yeah. I know." He typed in the first random thing that popped into his head and clicked send.

That's when he heard the sound. It sounded kind of like a buzzing sound. It wasn't very loud, in fact, he wasn't really sure he had heard it at first. He shrugged it off, thinking his ears were just playing tricks on him because of the late hour. But then he heard it again. This time it sounded louder and closer, and it definitely wasn't his imagination. He continued hearing the light whirring sound, followed by several clicks.

He slowly got up from his seat, slinking slowly in the direction of the sound. He followed it to his bed. Something was moving around under the covers. He cautiosly pulled back the cover and smiled down at the little white ball of fluff. "FURBY! You're alive!" He grabbed the toy and held it lovingly to his chest. "I thought I lost you!"

Title: Missing You
Fandom: BtVS/Angel, set after the battle in NFA
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon's the genius, not me.
Rating: PG
Word count: 150

She misses him sometimes, especially when she's in England. The smell of a cigarette, a bleach blond male sitting in a pub, an all-too-similar British accent... it all reminds her of him.

A year after his death she gets a phone call: it's him; he says he'll explain it all later, but there's another apocalypse and she's needed in L.A. Angel is missing, the rest of the Fang Gang are dead, and the entire world is next.

She can barely listen to what he has been saying... he has been alive - well, existing - for the past few months, and he never bothered to tell her.

She tells him she'll be in L.A. as soon as she can. Not only because the world needs saving, but because she wants to kick him in the ass. She was grieving for nothing.

She was missing him, but he obviously didn't miss her back.
