True?

Rating: PG-13? Not sure

What's true anymore? Me? You? My dead relationship with a man who won't be returning?

Grasping and giggling in her drunken haze, Amanda all but drags the hesitant young man to her bed. "Does it matter?" she whispers, alcohol lacing her breath. Another giggle and she pulls him down.

Slightly startled at his friend's behavior, the man shakes his head and rises from her, but Amanda won't have it. "Oh, come on! Just for tonight.. It'll be fun!" Using a surprising amount of mobility, given her state, she turns the guy beneath her, laughing and grinning.

He bites his lip, unsure what to do. She hadn't had that much to drink... but despite that--he gasps, as clothes are removed and she--"Not so bad, right?" Giggling again, she crawls up to smile at his face. She knows it well, has known it for years.

Is it really true?

Ah..

"But," he falters, mind spinning, protesting. "You don't--We--"

"Close enough," she whispers again. Though for whom, it's hard to say.

Title: 'True'
Fandom: Original
Rating: PG-13, to be safe
Genre: Romance
Disclaimer: The italicized lines are from Spandau Ballet's 'True', which I've loved since I was a little girl.

~*~ True ~*~

So true
Funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams

When he killed the engine, they were left with the sound of rain pelting the windshield.

“I don’t want to go out there,” she giggled, watching the drops hit the glass. “Does that sound silly?”

“Not a bit,” he answered, chuckling. “We can stay in the car until the rain stops. If you like.”

“I’d like that. But it could be a while before that happens. What’ll we do in the meantime?”

Head over heels, when toe to toe
This is the sound of my soul

“We could talk.” He removed his seat belt, shifting in the driver’s seat until he was comfortable. “Or we could do...other things.”

One eyebrow arched, indicating her interest. “Such as?”

This is the sound

His hand was already gently tunneling into her hair, slowly easing her face to his. “I’m sure we can thing of something,” he murmured against her lips.

The only response she gave was to lean close and lose herself in the taste of him.

“Dance with me,” he whispered when he pulled away.

I bought a ticket to the world
But now I've come back again

She blinked, still a bit drunk on his kiss. “Huh?”

“The rain’s stopped. Will you dance with me?” He smiled softly, running a fingertip along her cheek. “Please?”

Why do I find it hard to write the next line
When I want the truth to be said

Feeling a silly grin forming, she nodded. He reached down and restarted the car, then fiddled with the stereo until he found a soft rock station. Satisfied, he climbed out, coming around to the passenger’s side. He opened the door and offered his hand. “Shall we?”

“I’d love to.” Her hand in his, she stepped out of the car and let him pull her close. One arm slid around her waist, while he kept his gentle grip on her fingertips. Slowly, they moved together in time to the music.

With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun
Listening to Marvin all night long
This is the sound of my soul

Above, a soft drizzle began to fall. She tilted her head back and laughed softly as small drops touched her face. That was when she realized that they were no longer dancing. Somewhere along the line, he’d turned her so that her back was pressed to the side of the car. His lips moved slowly over her face and neck, tasting the droplets as they gathered on her skin.

This is the sound

She sighed softly and closed her eyes. His hands made their way down along her sides, molding her breasts tenderly, then spanning her waist. He cupped her buttocks, dragging her hips against his as he kissed her fervently.

Always slipping from my hands
Sand's a time of its own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh, I want the truth to be known

When her arms wrapped around his neck, he lifted her up into his arms. Between tender, rain-soaked kisses, he carried her inside.

I know this much is true

Title: Always Be True
Fandom: Troy
Character/Ship: Andromache, Hector/Andromache
Rating: PG
Genre: Drama/Angst
Word Count: 325
Time: 9 minutes

ALWAYS BE TRUE

Fear gripped Andromache as she stared out to the sea, the sight of thousands of ships sailing towards Troy an awe-inspiring sight - yet it only inspired fear and dread in he heart. Her child cried in her arms, the sound of the bell frightening him, yet it could have been considered a sign. A very bad sign, a warning of sorrows to come.
Hector had walked back into their chambers, preparing to leave, to lead the soldiers in the first battle with the Greeks once they landed on shore. He was leaving her after just returning to her, yet she knew he could not escape this, even though he wanted to.
He hated war, she knew this to be true. He despised it, and despised being away or leading the men to battle on their own ground. Yet he was the greatest leader in the military, and she could not be selfish, though she wanted to.
Andromache silently prayed to the gods that her husband would return to her tonight, to hold is child once more and assure her he was well unharmed. She would settle for harmed and in pain, as long as he would live.
Turning and walking back inside, gently rocking her son, whispering to him soothingly, she watched Hector look back at her once, regret and a promise in his eyes, before leaving his family alone to go and face his enemies.
She glanced back out to the sea, but could not keep her gaze on the ships for very long. She knew the truth of the matter was that Hector had a good chance of dying in this war - even today. This time was different. The threat was greater, stronger, bigger.
“He will return to us tonight,” she whispered to her son and herself, trying to placate them both. “He will return. Just as before, he will return.”
Andromache prayed this would always be true.

"Hi."

I awoke to his gaze sitting lazily and heavy on my chest. He sat legs crossed on the bed beside me. My bed is a prince size, too small for two people to share, really, but we manage.

"Good morning," I said suppressing a yawn after it came it still as a seething ribbon between my teeth. My breath must smell like something awful.

"I made pancakes." Suddenly the smell of warm butter wafted into my senses, and finally I was fully awake.

He was holding a lit cigarette in one hand. He doesn’t smoke.

He held up the cigarette to my lips and I pulled in a deep puff.

I let the smoke roll out of my mouth through my smile.

He leant his arm on my chest and placed my his mouth on my mouth.

"No, I’ll brush first."

He backed off pouting. "Well that’s what the cigarette was for. I can’t ever stand morning breath but I have gotten used to your ashtray flavored kisses."

"Yuck," I said.

"It’s true," he says, I know he was referring to his love.

Title: "True"
Fandom: Firefly
Rating: PG
Genre: Drama
Time: 15 minutes

Is it true? Is it false? Is it just another in a long series of momentary perceptions, something that she’s forever trying to arrange into some semblance of order?

River knows what she heard. I don’t give half a hump if you’re innocent or not. So where does that leave you? The others, they were easy; they carry themselves so close to the surface. Only things which are unspoken, but which reflect truth the way you could tell the hazards of a pool by the shadows of the rocks there. But this…

So harsh. So abrasive. So different from the face Book shows the world. So like Early’s voice, Early who brought nightmares and pain and fear, stealing away the sanctuary that Serenity was supposed to provide.

She worries about it. Book has always stood by to protect her and Simon, from the very first day they met. But what if that is nothing more than illusion, cover for his own plans?

She cannot be sure of it. The voices call from all sides, suggesting plans and plots and possibilities, just like they did before they landed on Ariel and she cut Jayne. Futurepresentpast, all mixing together, and she knew Jayne’s jealousy and ire towards Simon. Put back upon him the same thing he was thinking of giving to Simon. He looks better in red.

She hadn’t sensed anything like this darkness from Book before. That’s why she’s torn. She thinks. Ponders. Considers.

Take a knife, cut him quietly in the dark of what passes for night here in the black. Borrow a hypodermic and drugs from Simon’s infirmary, slip the steel into him gentle as a teenaged boy entering his girl for the first time, let him fade away in his sleep. Smother him with his own pillow. Use one of the guns from the locker, bang bang, baby shot him down.

Or speak of it. Observe, and learn the truth behind the words.

But is there time?

Is it true?

Title: White Orchid
Fandom: LOST
Rating/Warnings: None
Character/Pairing(s): Sun/Jin
Time/Words: 12 minutes, 244 words

_

It’s true, Sun knows, to escape Jin is impossible. She had the opportunity, to make her excuses, and flee, to be forever pursued by her father and her husband, both of whom she harboured no lost love. The plane ticket was in her pocket, slightly crunched and bent from all her handlings with it, probably covered in a slick sheen of sweat from her tight palm, and there was a black car, waiting just outside the airport for her. It was all planned, it was all set.

But then Jin had held up his first gift—a simple white orchid. Sun caught Jin’s secret smile, the smile he always gave her when she had fallen in love with him, the smile she hates now, because she knows the smile is a mask hiding deceit and lies. And even though Sun had a chance, she passed it by, and she sits alone in the cold cave, in her dirty, threadbare sweater. Tighter, she hugs herself around the knees, and closes her eyes, blocking out any accusatory glares Jin will soon throw.

It’s not possible for Sun to escape Jin, because even if she was off the island in America, hidden among the pop culture and rushing businessmen, he would still be there. All she would have to see is a white orchid, and everything would rush back. No, Sun can never escape Jin.

And in some twisted way, Sun is glad she can’t.

“It’s not true... it can’t be...” she uttered in disbelief.

“Buffy... I’m sorry. But...”

“I just talked to him yesterday... He was planning to come out in a few weeks. You know, for our wedding. He was gonna give me away.”

Angel gently held her face in his hands. “Willow said he died in his sleep, if that’s any consolation.”

“But...” she said, “he’s supposed to live forever. He’s Giles.”

“Anything I can do?”

“Can you just hold me for a while?”

“Of course, Buffy,” he replied as he brought her close to his chest, while she began to sob.

Title: Reality Crashing In
Fandom: Btvs/Ats
Summary: post NFA. She wants to fold him into her arms and guard the last piece of Angel left on this earth.

The old fashioned skeleton key fits perfectly in the lock, the beginning of reality crashing down. She turns the key, listening as the pins and tumblers fall into place with a clank. The door swings open on well oiled hinges, evidence he was here just a little while ago. As she walks into the lobby of the hotel, the numbness begins to drain away starting from the inside out. This place, that key makes it true. She falls to her hands and knees as her stomach purges itself of her breakfast. She kneels there panting, the air rushing down her throat and inflating lungs that feel as if she is taking her first breath. Her lungs constrict with the same pain. It is only minutes later that the numbness is completely sapped away. Her knees, the heels of her hands, ache from the impact with the stone floor.

“So you’re Her.”

She gets to her feet and turns catching sight of the boy (man?) that looks nothing like his father and yet he feels like his father. This boy resonates something deep inside her. She wants to fold him into her arms and guard the last piece of Angel left on this earth.

Their introductions are brief, wooden and unnecessary. They knew who the other was before words were spoken. Angel had explained him in a letter he’d left for her, along with two claddagh rings, a skeleton key and half of his estate.

There were provisions to that half, one of them being that his son would always have a place in this hotel. She was glad to comply with the provisions. If she has her way this boy will never be out of her sight again.

She makes tea because it is how she has been taught by Giles to cope with things. There is very little, according to the watcher that tea won’t mend. Her heart is one of them. She sits at the opposite end of the table and they regard each other uncomfortably.

“My adopted family, the one he made for me…after the Orlan Window was broken…they remembered I wasn’t theirs. The Reilly’s are good people, they said I could stay with them anyway. They said I still felt like their son, they still loved me. It didn’t feel right though.”

She nods. Angel had explained the Reilly’s and the normal life he’d tried to create for his son. He’d also explained how it had failed.

“What were you to him?”

Her head snaps up at that question. She furrows her brow, unable to explain…not sure she knows. She finally shakes her head.

“Okay, then what was he to you?”

She pauses, unsure how to explain her soul mate, her love, her friend, warrior, protector. A smile touches her face, her first since hearing of his death. “My everything.”

Title: True
Fandom: Learning to Fly (original)
Words: 509
Time: 15
"Well? And what does your father have to say on the matter?" The old Scotsman asked, giving Lupus a pointed look.

"Lu's father doesn't say anything," another studant laughed. "He's a tomcat. Didn't stick around long enough to say much of anything."

"A tomcat with a taste in humans," yet another studnet added.

Lupus kept his face calm. He'd long ago learned that getting angry or upset only made things worse. Well, in front of the grownups anyways, because the grownups always Looked at him and asked to talk to his father, then.

Bunch of bastards. He'd get back at them. They'd be sorry they ever pulled shit like that.

When the bell that ended the last class finally beeped with that eerie, musical ping sound, Lupus immediately moved from his desk, gathered his things, and meandered through the hallways until he had exited the school through the back entrance.

Teachers practically never headed back here, because it was a useless stretch of land that was isolated from the rest of the property, and didn't even have a pretty view. It looked out on a stretch of America-owned highway, so the students tended to stay away.

He heard a soft foot-fall behind him. He refused to turn, instead slowly swishing his tail towards the left.

"What you said about my father," Lupus said quietly. "It isn't true."

Keefe had taught him to let the boys come at him. Then he could honestly say he hadn't landed the first blow. He would obviously be defending himself. What right would the teachers have to punish him? Especially with the recent upsurge in prejudice and hate crimes towads half-humans.

"Yes it is," the other boy said.

"No it's not." Lupus smiled, knowing that his next words would cut through the other boy's pretenses at being better than him. "Your father's more of a tomcat than mine. I saw him at the mall yesterday. He was walking around with some male. They were holding hands. My dad might have just up and left on me, but at least he didn't stick around and PRETEND to love me and my mom, eh?"

"Shut up!" The other boy shouted. "It's not true! You're just lying, trying to make yourself feel better because your dad's worthless!"

"Your dad's worth even less than mine. He's messing around on your mom with one of his employees." Lupus smiled again.</p< That did it for the other kid. He rushed straight at Lupus, his hands clenched into fists and his claws extended. Lupus accepted the first blow and rolled with it. He made sure to fall down and hurt himself, then rose and came back at the other boy with several vicious punches and a couple of claw-swipes. They had to drag the two away from each other, kicking, screaming and shouting. And oddly enough, it was Keefe's hand on his shoulder, saying hadn't he busted the other boy up but goodly, that made him ready to smile on the inside, even if he had to whimper on the outside.

Title: Life's Truths
Author: Haruka [info]tarma
Fandom: Fruits Basket
Rating: PG
Note: Male/male relationship. Alternate universe – if Tohru didn’t exist in FB, there would have to be another way to break the Juunishi curse. This is my own preference.
Crossposted to: [info]canadian_haruka

I’m such a sly dog, Shigure thought as he watched the scene unfold out back.

There had always been certain truths in their lives. The curse and how the Souma family had lived with it for centuries. The fact that their options for love were limited because of it. The animosity that the cat would always feel for the rat.

That had been the case in their generation of Juunishi as well. A day hadn’t gone by with Yuki in Kyo’s presence where the cat hadn’t either tried for his life or cursed him out. Although Yuki was a gentle soul by nature, he had been run down by Kyo’s treatment of him over the years and fought and sniped back readily.

However, Shigure was a novelist, and any good writer was highly observant. There was a new truth that he could see emerging.

When Yuki wasn’t looking, Kyo would watch him. Not the way a cat followed its prey, but with something akin to admiration. When Yuki’s hair fell forward, softly framing his pretty face, Shigure saw something heavier in Kyo’s gaze.

He had noted the same reactions in Yuki. A wistfulness behind his eyes as he watched Kyo interact with classmates. A more intimate longing when observing the cat practice his martial arts by the pond.

There was one more important truth in all their lives. For every curse, there was a way to break it. Shigure had the imagination to choose the most difficult, unlikely scenarios that might accomplish this; because, of course, breaking a curse would not be an easy task. To him, the most unlikely, impossible occurrence, a situation unheard of in centuries of Juunishi would be ….

He watched Yuki mischievously offer Kyo a leek from his garden and the other boy take it, then whap Yuki lightly over the head with it. Yuki tried to grab the leek and caught Kyo’s hand instead. Neither one pulled away.

The cat and the rat … attracted to one another.

In history and in fairy tales, hadn’t a kiss often meant the breaking of a curse? How much more power could that kiss hold if it occurred between natural enemies?

Shigure smiled smugly as he watched purple eyes meet ruby ones and their owners share a long look full of words unspoken. It might not happen that day or the next, but this dog was certain his instincts would prove true, and these two who had been destined to despise each other would be the salvation of them all.
