Four weeks, and time for another picture for inspiration.

The fake LJ-cut link below is actually a link to the picture. Don't click on it until you're ready to write!

( Picture #8 )

EDITED 1/6/04 TO ADD: Noah reorganized his site, looks like. I'll probably have to fix the older pictures as well. I've fixed this link for now.

Thanks for the photo. I tend to get a lot of writing inspiration from various photos and drawings.

“Hermione, where are you taking me?”

Hermione Granger had taken his hand and started leading Harry Potter through a thicket of bushes on the far side of the lake. The area around the lake was a part of Hogwarts’ grounds they’d explored many times during their talks over the past seven years, but apparently they’d managed to miss this particular thicket. Or at least he had.

Hermione, however, seemed to know just where she was going. “Not much farther,” she assured him, still holding his hand firmly in her own, walking two steps ahead of him. Her hand was soft and smooth and, he realized, surprisingly small compared to his own, and having it wrapped around his own was remarkably comforting.

“Almost there,” she smiled a few steps later, and suddenly she was leading Harry down a long set of shallow stairs carved into a hillside Harry had never explored before. The stairs were a bit slippery, and as they approached the bottom, Harry lost his footing and he found himself falling forward. He stretched out his arms to break the fall...and managed to tumble both himself and his best friend into a heap near the bottom of the stairs.

Anxiously, Harry pulled himself up, dusted himself off and helped Hermione to her feet. “I’m sorry,” he said nervously, “I didn’t mean to land”---

“Don’t be sorry, Harry; I’m not,” she breathed, backing him up against the smooth stone wall of the stairwell.

That's all I managed to do in 15 minutes. I usually write pretty slowly. I should probably join the 30 minute ficlets community so I can finish this :))

ah. I actually went off looking at this site before for inspiration and used this photo in a 15-minute spree of writing. So it wasn't done today, but I hope nobody minds if I drop the link anyway. It's Boondock Saints FPS - Connor/Murphy.

This isn't so much a story, as the outline for a story idea.
and sorry...I can't work the page cuts very well...

Jasmine
Three went up the stairs, one came down.
The three were happy together, all related to one another in different ways, all attracted to each other for different reasons. But they had each promised themselves that they would stay together.

Jasmine, Ellis, and Mari, Marigold was her Christened name, They were happy together in Peach Ferry, but the bells of matrimony always bring a different tune to the atmosphere, and as Mari sat in her room, which overlooked the port, she knew that her life was changing. Her mother was recently deceased, and while she had quite a few relations, in Peach Ferry alone, only one invitation motivated her heart, that of her best friend Jasmine. Jasmine Cevulet had moved to the small fishing town in junior high, with no family or possessions to call her own. She had been adopted through an agency by Mr. and Mrs. Bacon, the mayor and his wife.
She became popular instantly, an orphan from New Orleans, coming to a small island to be raised by a rich politician.
Marigold lived alone with her sickly mother, her father having drowned when she was very small. She was attracted to Jasmine at first glance, something about the air changed when she was around, she brought a sense of excitement to her drab little life.
They became instant inseparable friends, until their last year of high school, when Ellis Franson came into the picture.
Ellis was not a star athlete, and not praised academic, he had little money, and even less associations, he did his work at school, and did his work at the soda fountain in town. There wasn’t anything terribly intriguing about him, except to Jasmine.
"Come on Jas…I want to catch the last part of football practice, maybe Bailey will take his shirt off like last time." Mari tugged at her friend’s arm.
"Wait a minute," Jasmine said, in her soft voice, and lilting accent, "I need to buy some peppermint, do you want some?"
"No, I want to see Bailey with no shirt," Mari cried.
"Oh, you." Jasmine said, as she walked into the cool atmosphere of the drug store.

Two years and thousands of peppermint sticks later, Ellis finally proposed, in front of Jasmine and Marigold. They had gotten married, much to the happiness of the whole town, and Jasmine had invited Mari, the new orphan, to come live with them.
And that’s where Mari found herself, excited about living with Jasmine, chagrined that she was married to Ellis Franson.

I wrote for exactly 15 minutes and didn't really round it off, but I think I might go and write more of it later.

Abberline was waiting at the top of the stone steps, and Godley was not surprised at all.
“Another dream, eh Fred my old pal?” he panted, stopping for a moment to catch his breath before climbing the rest of the way.
Godley noted the splashes of dark crimson, now dry, that decorated the top step.
“Why the devil did they want to kill someone all the way up here?” he said.
Abberline shrugged and handed the Sergeant a piece of paper: a letter in an all too familiar handwriting, though Godley had only seen one other sample of it.
“Are you sure you want me to read this?” Godley said.
“Why not?” Abberline said and the bleakness in his eyes reminded Godley of that day when he had thought that the Inspector, his friend and boss, had decided to put an end to his misery once and for good.
Godley shook the paper and read it. It was short and the writer had not bothered to dress up her cruel message with flowery phrases or kinder words. Mary Kelly, the flame-haired temptress and one-time London bangtail was married at last. Bringing up her foster daughter in an Irish cottage by the sea with her new Irish husband and another bairn on the way.
Godley wanted to say something. But what could he say that would have made any difference? He made an mental note to keep a closer eye on Abberline and post a couple of the more discreet officers near the opium dens. More, he could not do but wait, watch and hope.
Abberline crouched and touched the patch of dry blood with his fingertips.
“The victim wasn’t killed here,” he said. “They killed him elsewhere and dragged the body here.”
”So what did you see,” Godley said.
“A man and a woman, dragging something wrapped in black sacking.”
A woman eh? Are you sure?”
Abberline looked up and frowned. Of course he was sure, Godley reminded himself. He was bloody sure.
“Okay, a man and a woman then. Why kill him and drag him up here?” This was turning out to be even stranger than the Ripper case. At least that one had a purpose in its horrible madness. But to kill a poor elderly professor with nothing to his name but a pile of dusty books and an even more elderly housekeeper and then to leave his body, hacked about as it was, in this remote place.
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy” Godley muttered.
