Book 71.5/52.5
Memory in Death by Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb
3.5/5            Paperback 293 pages

This was this first of the "in Death" Books I have read and I admit I enjoyed it immensely, my complaints are more about the fact that there seems to be more focus on the sex lives of the characters in this particular book than on the mystery, which was why I was reading it.  That said, I will definately be making a trip to my local library for more of these books.

Book 72.5/53.5
Wild Irish Women by Marian Broderick
3.5/5            Paperback 368 Pages

This was an interesting book of short vignettes charting the many great women who have appeared throughout the history of Ireland.  I found that as a taster it was useful, but unsatisfying for the historian in me so again i am off to the library to learn mo

Books 73.5/54.5 and 74.5/55.5
The Magic in the Weaving and The Power in the Storm
Tamora Pierce
4/5 and 3.5/5 respectively

This was an interesting introduction to the work of a fantasy writer I have been meaning to try for a long time.  I enjoyed both immedsley, although I did find the second book lost its thread slightly.  It is the story of 4 mages, who were perhaps not aware they were mages.  It follows the classic ideal of all of them being from diverse backgrounds but coming together united by a common purpose and developing a friendship that transcends their differences. I look forward to reading the next two books in the series as soon as I manage to get my hands on them.  I also intend to read a lot more Tamora Pierce

Books 75.5/56.5, 76.5/57.5 and 77.5/58.5
Strangers In Death, Vengeance In Death and Vision In Death
Nora Roberts writing as J D Robb
all 4/5
Total Pages:   976

I read these after enjoying the Memory In Death novel and I will probably read the rest, although I think I will have to go back to the beginning as the storylines are entwined from one novel to the next and I like to read these things in order.
The books are about New York Cop Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke, who is a very rich man with an interest in a lot of things.  They are set in 2056, the technology is better, guns are outlawed but lasers can kill you and as always, murder is murder.  The novels follow homicide Detective Eve Dallas as she works her cases (one per book obviously) but also examines her interpersonal relationships and the effext her past has on the way she behaves now.  I enjoyed the series a lot and will definately be reading more.

Book 78/59
Scarlett: The Sequel to Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind
Alexandra Ripley
2/5
Pages:          768

I first read this when I was 15 and going through my requisite romantic phase.  I now wish I have never picked it up again.  15 years after I first read it it read like a glorified Mills and Boon.  I believe that Gone with the Wind was a classic, and the ending should have been left as it was...  I did perserve to the end, but I do not think I will ever read it again.  I found myself alternately chringing at Scarlett's behaviour and wanting to slap her and tell her to grow up.  It seemed that she never learnt from her mistakes and I find it had to believe in a character like that, surely after everything this women has been through she must have learnt something.

Books 79/60, 80/61 and 81/62
The Secret Country, The Shadow World, Dragon's Fire
Jane Johnson
4/5
Total Pages:   864

Does any of this sound familiar or is it just me?  Boy grows up on Earth, boy meets magical animal, boy discovers he is not what he thought he was, boy discovers prophecy involving him and two others (his sisters), boy and two sisters save the worlds.  Humans are called Dulls by the magical people.
Ok I admit I am perhaps being over cynical at this point, after all I did enjoy the books very much and I know that their target audience will be entrahalled by then.  However, they do seem to be part of the series of books that have jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon.
Criticisms aside, however, I will say that they were well written and the story did draw me in and leave me wanting more, which meant that of course I read all three books in the trilogy, and along with the Harry Potter books I do look forward to reading them to my niece and nephews in the future.

Book 82/63
Trainers -v- Tiaras (the Diary of a Chav)
Grace Dent
2.5/5
Pages:    240

I picked this up purely on a whim and I wish I had put it straight back down,  I picked it up because I have always enjoyed the Adrian Mole style diary stories, and have read and read them many times over the years.  This, however, I found trite and predicatable.  IT tried too hard for laughs, and had no real story arc.  I would not read another one.  Unless of course I was stuck somewhere with nothing else to read...  Then I would read anything
