13_fears, yes, another of those challenge communities. This basically is a challenge to create thirteen fanfics or fanarts connected to 13 different themes! It was inspired by communities such as

30_kisses(the original XD),

7_snogs,

10_hugs, etc.

The Basics

-Why only 13? For one it is the number often associated with fear or scary things. Also...it’s a small number and easy to do, right? However, there are bonus themes in case you get stuck…or feel like doing more.
-Why is it called "13_fears"? Because each fanfic or fanart must somehow work with the phobia provided as a theme.
-What is "Triskaidekaphobia"? Fear of the number 13 of course X3

01. Hemophobia; Fear of Blood {it’s just a little blood}
02. Nyctophobia; Fear of the Dark {are you afraid of the dark?}
03. Apeirophobia; Fear of Infinity {it just goes on forever and ever}
04. Catoptrophobia; Fear of Mirrors {they reflect our true selves to us}
05. Sociophobia; Fear of People {why can’t we be friends?}
06. Acrophobia; Fear of Heights {it’s a long way down}
07. Thanatophobia; Fear of Dying/Death {the end is near}
08. Xenophobia; Fear of Strangers {I’d like to introduce you to a new friend}
09. Metathesiophobia; Fear of Changes {nothing lasts forever}
10. Aichmophobia; Fear of Sharp Objects {don’t run with scissors}
11. Algophobia; Fear of Pain {does it hurt?}
12. Autophobia; Fear of Being Alone {when no one else is around}
13. Panophobia; Fear of Everything {is there anything that DOESN’T scare you}

Bonus Themes {just in case the others are too terrifying}
14. Brontophobia; Fear of Thunder and Lightening {storm clouds are blowing in}
15. Coulrophobia; Fear of Clowns {let’s join the circus}
16. Gynophobia; Fear of Women {sugar and spice and everything nice}
17. Androphobia; Fear of Men {snakes and snails and puppy dog tails}
18. Nudophobia; Fear of Nudity {in only my birthday suit}

But How?

Here's how it works. You post to THIS TOPICclaiming a character, a relationship, or a general series to write about. ANY fandom is available. More than one person can do the same claim. It's just for keeping track!

You write 13 fanfics based on the above themes -- or draw 13 pictures, or however you want to represent them. If you don't like up to five of the "main" themes, you can choose from the bonuses; or you can write the bonuses just for fun! Post your finished fiction/art in this community.

When you're done with all 13 themes, post to THIS TOPIC and a unique banner will be made for you saying that you won your claim…as soon as I get someone to make banners…ah-heh.

Rules

Rule #1: There is absolutely no bashing of any sexual orientation or couple allowed in this community.

Rule #2: You may interpret the challenge prompts however, you choose. As long as the topic [or bracketed topic] inspired you, it's probably close enough to count. Your character doesn’t necessarily have to be afraid of these things but perhaps its an encounter that frightens them that revolves around the theme.

Rule #3: Fanfics must be above 100 words to be counted, but aside from that, there are no guidelines for writing. First person or third, present or past, each segment independent or a consecutive narrative. Similarly, a five-minute sketch is just as good as a watercolor painting. Whatever works for you!

Rule #4: Any fandom is welcome as is any pairing.

Rule #5: Everything must be LJ-cut.

Rule #6: When submitting your works, please use the following format:

Claim: (Character, Pairing, Gen Series?)
Theme:
Rating: (include any warnings here)
Word Count: (optional.)
Disclaimer: (since we sadly don’t own any of the characters that will be used here)

Your subject line must read the following.
Title (Claim, Series, Prompt#)
For instance:
End Already! (Demyx, Kingdom Hearts, #3)

This is very important for archiving purposes. Archives will be done by claim and author.

FAQ

Q. How many claims can I have?
You can have up to two at once. Art claims and writing claims are not counted as separate for this; you can't have two art claims and two writing claims.

Q. Are art and writing claims separate, or can I combine both for one claim?
There's no strict division. You can write a fanfic for prompt #3, draw fanart for prompt #5, and submit a drabble with an accompanying illustration for prompt #12 if that's what you want to do. Have fun with it!

Q. Do I have to do the challenge prompts in order?
Absolutely not! You can do them forwards, backwards, evens then odds, or in any order that strikes you.

Q. Can I make fake-cuts or links to my own journal?
Yes. The actual fic or art can be located anywhere you like, just as long as you maintain the format when posting to this community: Title, Author, Claim, Prompt, etc. That way, anyone searching for a certain kind of fic will know what they're getting when they follow the link beneath your header.

Q. Do you allow lemons/porn/nekkidness?
As long as it's marked clearly in the warnings, yes. Make sure that everything above the LJ-cut is work-safe, please.

Q. Will you ever kick me off my claim for inactivity?
Maybe, but we're very laid-back. If you post nothing for three or four months, you might get a comment asking if you're still interested in your claim. It's just to keep the claims page from getting cluttered up with long-abandoned intentions.

Q.Do we post all 13 prompts in one entry when we're complete, or post as we go along? Or it doesn't matter?
Post them as you go along. You can post them all at once if you LIKE...but it would probably be easier to post them as you go.
