Nominations have been trickling in every few days this week. We now have received nominations from 18 people for the 2008 awards.

There will be a run-off ballot on June 30, 2008, beginning at approximately 8-9am EST (USA) and ending 24 hours later. It will only be delayed if there are a flood of nominations at the last minute... so please be kind and get your noms in early! ^_~ And make sure to come by this site during that day to participate.

...is Red, White and Blue month. The Man of Steel is an icon here in the USA, so authors are asked to incorporate a patriotic theme in their stories...just in time for the nation's birthday. (Stories must be posted between July 1 and July 31! No earlier, no later...no exceptions!)


AUGUST 2008...
...is Clois Heat Wave month. August is notoriously one of the steamiest, sultriest months on the calendar in this hemisphere of the globe. Authors are asked to turn up the heat both on the thermometer and in the lives of their favorite couple in stories that are submitted for this challenge. (Stories must be posted between August 1 and August 31! No earlier, no later...no exceptions!)

Let the second annual Superman Movieverse Fanfiction Awards get underway! Here are the ground rules:

• Fanfiction written between June 2007 and June 2008 is eligible. For WIPs, at least one chapter of the longer work must have been originally published during the qualifying period
• Any story which won an award in a previous year is not eligible for the same award in the current year, regardless of whether newer chapters were published during the qualifying period.
• Exceptions to the rule are Best Overall Author -- any author is eligible, regardless of previous wins -- but only based on his/her work during the qualifying period.
• Likewise, you may nominate a different moment of the same fic that won last year's Best Moment Category provided that the moment you are nominating was writtten during the current year.
• The stories may be hosted anywhere online (for example: fanfiction.net, fanlib.com, The Planet, LJ, other sites)
• The main focus of the story must be the Superman movieverse (not Smallville, Lois and Clark, comicverse, etc.)
• Writers may not nominate their own fanfiction for any category.
• Nominations will be accepted between June 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008. The top five fics nominated will be placed into the final ballot. If there is a tie, we will include a sixth nomination. A run-off ballot will take place on June 30, 2008 if for any categories which do not have a clear nominations list.
• Voting will take place between July 1, 2008 and July 14, 2008, in a manner to be determined (mods are in the process of researching secure alternate methods)
• Awards will be announced on July 15, 2008.

As for the fic:
Two Kal’s here. Kal-L- The Superman from the “Kingdom Come” storyline in the comics. Check it out- each panel is hand-painted by a brilliant artist, Alex Ross. Plus, it’s an epic story. Anyway, that came out quite a while ago. Recently, in the current issues of “The Justice Society of America” somehow the Kingdom Come Superman made it to the Earth of the current Superman. Confusing, right? He (KC Superman’s) name is Kal-L while the Superman of the regular Earth is Kal-El. I won’t be referring to him as that much, he’ll be referred to as Superman. Also, the slight blurring between Kal and Kal’s lives is intentional. Interpret as you will. Anyway- read on.

Greetings to all my fellow Clois fans! After spending entirely too much time surfing the many fic challenge communities around LJ, I came to realize there was no place for DCU fanfic writers and fan artists to gather and actively challenge ourselves and each other to write fic and make art, without the constraints of a specific pairing or character, or being tied to one prompt table. Out of that need, and my (unhealthy) love for prompts tables, the DCU Free For All was born.

The goal of the DCU Free For All Fanfic/Fanart Challenge is to write a certain number of fics or create a certain number of graphics or original art pieces (from 10 to 100) centering around the DCU character, pairing, family, team, etc, of your choosing, using prompts from either a pre-made table, or a table of your own making. There are no time limits, no limits to how many people may make the same claim, no real limits at all, actually!

At dcu_freeforall, the rules are simple and relaxed, the leeway broad. The idea is to have fun and follow our plot and art bunnies to our hearts' desire!

Please come and check out the community; there's plenty of room for everyone (and not much representation from the Clois corner of DCU fandom yet!). If you're interesting in taking on a challenge, I highly encourage you to make a claim and join the community. Hope to see you all there!

Author's Notes: This is my first venture into the Original Movieverse timeline. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous about this one, but with the approval of teh twin, kalalanekent, I have a bit more confidence at posting. Really, I think some of us have to admit that it's her fault we've dabbled in this universe in the first place. If she hadn't done such a beautiful job with Little Secrets, we'd all still be finding some way to kill off Richard. So thanks, twin, for creating Richana and reminding us how fun it is to believe a man can fly. ;)
