The idea for this community was taken from all the other drabble communities out there, and partially from a particular community
100stories.
This is a community for anyone who wishes to write original (i.e not fandom related) drabbles. It is just meant to be for fun. You may post whenever you wish but the usual rules apply as with all drabbles i.e please try to make them have a point.
Alongside this, you can also take the 100 Drabbles Challenge. Members will aim to come up with 100 original drabbles in the course of 100 consecutive days.
If you are taking the challenge, please let us know which drabble number and attempt it is (e.g. if it is the tenth drabble of your third attempt for 100 straight, then begin it with "(10-3)", regardless of whether or not you managed to do the full 100 on your first two tries. Don't cheat!).
The Drabble Writing Basics by
prillalar as listed below is recommended reading for those unsure how to write a drabble.
What makes a good drabble? Here's what works for me, anyhow.
A drabble needs detail. This may seem counter-intuitive because drabbles are so short. But when you've only got 100 words to make an impression, one or two sharp details can make a huge difference.
A drabble needs focus. You can't fit everything into a drabble that you can into a three volume novel. So don't try.
A drabble needs a plot or at least a point. Something should happen, even if it's a small thing.
A drabble needs a punch-line. Some sort of surprise or reversal at the end. There are exceptions, but I do find drabbles I enjoy the most have a twist or unexpected ending.
A drabble should be complete. This doesn't mean you can't leave your audience wondering about what happens next, but even a short piece has a story arc and you've got to get to the end of it by the end of the drabble.
Here endeth the lecture.
PLEASE NOTE: If your drabble contains anything which may be of a sensitive nature (i.e. an implied or outright slash/ femslash - yaoi/yuri- relationship, excess blood, guts, gore) or anything else which for normal stories or drabbles would rate an R or NC-17 rating please be respectful of others who don't wish to read these and use the tag. Also please give a warning if your drabble contains anything which would cause you to put it behind an lj cut.
And in turn please respect any ratings system used. The moderator will not be held responsible for anyone breaking this rule. I don't want to turn this into a private community if I can help it so please play nicely.
Rules:
01. You must be a member to post. For your introductory post, please include the information included in the text box below.
For those who need help posting in a community please see Live Journal FAQ question #76 for help.
02.Participation in the Challenge is encouraged, but not mandatory in order to post to this community.
03. Entries must be 100 hundred words. It's a practice in discipline. A quote I gacked from
wednesday100 said "A story in one hundred words, not one hundred words of a story".
04.Please, no flaming anyone's entries. That's wrong and will not be tolerated. Comments, of course, are always welcome.
Warning: Please do not spam this community. If you are looking for a place to advertise your latest and greatest community please go to
community_promo. If you are searching for anything else I recommend looking for it under "interests" to find plenty of applicable communities. The same goes for random commenting.
Offenders will get a warning, and if they continue they will be banned. If you troll, you will also be banned.
