Title: Last Days
'Fandom': Project Thalion/The Last Stand
Claim: General
Prompt: 003. Ends
Word Count: 547 words
Rating: PG
Summary: It was an end…but it was also the start of something new…
Author's Notes: A ficlet with the elder generation this time. One person’s musings in the last days before the Exodus from Earth.

It was the last time any of them would set foot on this planet for a very long time. Some of them never would again. The mood was somber as the last preparations were made, the last transfers of their entire way of life, it seemed had been uploaded or transferred to the massive space station now orbiting the Earth. All that was left now was for the shuttles to begin taking the Travellers now Exiles up to inhabit it. Some of Earth’s best and brightest minds had given up on their beloved planet and were now leaving it behind.

There was so much to do, so much to arrange, so much to say that there was hardly enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that needed doing before they left, she thought to herself as she stood there, looking out over the courtyards. She couldn’t recall ever see them this empty before, they’d always been so active, so bustling with life, children running here and there during their free periods. She remembered that Daphne and Kent had loved the far left corner with its fragrant bushes and beautiful flower beds while the triplets and later on, Bastien had preferred the center benches underneath the tall oak trees.

“Feels wrong, doesn’t it? Seeing it empty like this?” Paula remarked as she came up next to her friend, leaning her arms on the balcony railing as she too looked out over the courtyards.

Beth nodded absently, “That it does. I mean since this place was first built, that courtyard’s never been empty. First, it was the workmen building this place, then it was us when we using this place for the project and then…” the lump in her throat prevented her from speaking further, tears gathering at the edges of her chocolate-colored eyes.
“The kids loved this place after it was converted to the school. If they had a free period, you could be sure that if the weather was good, they were here.” Paula finished for her friend. She ducked her head, chuckling for a minute, “Many times, even when the weather wasn’t good, they were still out here hanging out, being kids.”

“Even the professors liked to sit out here and work. There was just something about the atmosphere here that was calming, soothed the soul and the busy mind.” Beth recalled with a fond smile.

“Which was something we all needed,” Paula added, “And now it’s…”

“Yeah,” Beth said, agreeing with one of her oldest friends. “It’s rather like saying goodbye to a very old and dear friend, one that you know you won’t be seeing again.”

“You always did know exactly what to say, Beth,” a new voice sounded from behind them. Both women turned to see their other friend, Caleb walking up and they smiled at him. The three of them had been friends since childhood and that bond had held through to now, when they found themselves working together with the same Project. He slipped an arm around the two women and together they stood there, looking out over the place they’d loved so well, lost in their memories. It was certainly an end, that they knew, but it was also a beginning, the start of something new and completely foreign.

Title: Journal Entry # 132
'Fandom': Project Thalion/The Last Stand
Claim: General
Prompt: 047. Heart
Word Count: 540 words
Rating: PG
Summary: Gavin’s perspective on Sirius and Rhys’ wedding shortly after the first major battle of the Vale civil war.
Author's Notes: Snippet from one of Gavin DeWitt’s journal entries.

…It all started with what we now refer to as the first major battle of the war. A small skirmish that rapidly escalated into a major offensive and made all the scarier because one of our own, one of the infamous and unbeatable DeWitt triplets got caught up in it. We almost didn’t win that one either, if it hadn’t been for Sulwyn and his motley crew of rogues and scouts, we wouldn’t have been able to. We owe them a very great deal of gratitude for what they did that day, Morgan and I do, Sirius too, especially. Because Sulwyn was able to fight his way into the forest garrison and he helped reinforce the troops that were already there, helping them to hold their posts until my battalions were able to break through the enemy lines and relieve them once and for all. Without Sul’s assistance, they’d have been overrun in a matter of days. That would have been a hard blow for all of us to stand because Rhys’ medical team was there, they’d been passing through when the enemy happened upon them and they quickly sought refuge with the garrison. Losing the garrison would have lost us my little sister as well as a group of trained soldiers and healers.

Almost losing Rhys has really brought it home to all of us really, but Sirius in particular, just how fragile we really are and just how uncertain our positions and lives here are. The cause of much pondering as my mother might say. Then again I honestly don’t believe Sirius has been *that* scared since we were very little. Another side-effect of this has been the realization of not taking anything for granted and really making the most of the time we’ve been given. Even with the war, taking advantage of the good times we can in the time that’s been gifted to us.

Which is why when my best friend since infancy came to me and asked for my little sister’s hand in marriage, I said yes and gave him my blessing. Now granted this puts my head as well as Morgan’s, who also agreed, on the chopping block along with the happy couple’s when our parents find out…but it’s worth it. And like Iggy put it, “It’s not like the four of you have ever really done anything apart since you all met, so somehow it’s fitting that you’ll all go down together.” Such a caring friend he is, but anyways I can’t deny he’s got a valid point. We’re all in this together; we always have been and always will be. Sirius is Rhys’ shield and strong-arm just like she’s his heart. I know that from the bottom of *my* heart and that’s why I know that they’ll be alright together. The Elders here in Indor are quite pleased that such a young couple is ready and willing to make this commitment to each other and even more pleased that both Sirius and Rhys have shown themselves mature enough to really comprehend the decision they’re making. We had Colin take pictures of their wedding and included them in the massive scrapbook that we’re putting together for the parents and others back on Earth…

Title: Found
'Fandom': Project Thalion/The Last Stand
Claim: General
Prompt: 069. Thunder
Word Count: 606 words
Rating: PG
Summary: On a routine scouting, two partners happen upon something unusual
Author's Notes: This is where the PT storyline and the TLS storyline really start to come together with the initial meeting of the two groups. *grins*

The sky rumbled. It would be dark soon, sooner still if those dark clouds coming their way made good on their promise to deliver the rain that was so badly needed in this territory. Soon the moon would be up and they would hunt once more, if it wasn’t storming that was. If it stormed than they would hole up until the next day when once more scouts would be sent out, hopefully this time they’d come back with the news that the Nephs and the Wrai had left this area and they could go back to their somewhat normal way of life. Jayden heard the low whistle of his partner, Bell over on his left. He turned and stealthily slunk up to where she was crouched behind a mound of rubble. She pointed over to where there was a clearing in the destruction left behind by the Wrai, Jayden’s eyes followed her hand and he whistled lowly under his breath when he saw it. Her actually, he amended mentally, a Human woman lay there unmoving in the small clearing. He moved to go to her, but was held back by Bell’s iron grip. He looked over at her shrouded face, “Trap,” she hissed quietly. Jayden shook his head, “Can’t be,” he told her, “Humans aren’t to know about the Game, that is.” Referring to the struggles between the Nephils and the Wraith for control of the planet as some sort of worldwide maniacal chess game, like so many of their brethren did. “Not even Wrai break *that* rule, Bell. I just want to see if she’s okay or not.” He tugged his arm free and broke cover, quickly moving over to where the human female was, checking for a pulse like he’d been trained to do in his paramedic’s training years ago. She was alive to his great surprise and when he hastily assessed her condition, he was further astounded to find that there was nothing wrong with her except a nasty bump on her head, which didn’t worry him so much as the other thing he found did. She was pregnant, at least two months unless he missed his guess. That was an interesting wrinkle, he thought to himself, whoever she was, she’d sure have one interesting story to tell. He’d have to make sure he was in the vicinity when she told it to Rafael and Blade. As carefully as he could, he scooped her up in his arms and walked back to where Bell was.

The Stalker just looked at him levelly for a moment and then nodded curtly, “We’ll take her with us. Rafe won’t be pleased, but…” Jayden finished for her, “There’s no way we could leave her out here, especially in the condition she’s in.”

They turned and started to pick their way through the rubble back to their underground headquarters. Jayden looked up as the first drops of rain started to fall and smiled to himself. The next few days were certainly going to be more interesting for him, with their latest puzzle securely in his arms. He shifted so that she was in a more comfortable position, if anything he hoped she knew some new stories that they could tell after the meals before pile in. That’d be something to look forward too; they hadn’t had any new stories to tell in a while, ever since they happened upon that empty children’s library months ago.

The skies rumbled and the lightning cracked and flashed across the sky, illuminating briefly two figures scurrying back underground, trying to get to shelter before the rain started to fall in earnest.
