AboutThis journal cycles through some of the most common characters in modern Chinese, taken three at a time, according to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Education 1997 list of "essential Chinese characters." I began with the 501st character, but when I reach the 1,500th character, I will go to the 501st most common character, and cycle through the whole list again. Long form (traditional) characters are used primarily, but where the short form (simplified) character differs significantly, I provide it also.
