DEYROLLE

So I heard of Deyrolle ages ago, it's a taxidermy and natural curiosities museum/shop in Paris. Unfortunately I just read (a little late on my part i will add) that they had a fire in February that engulfed a decent portion of their goods. Has any one gone to Deyrolle before the fire or even after? I really want to go, but considering it's not a hop jump and skip away I figured I'd ask Oktavia.

hahahaha. i hope no one takes this wrong, but it's funny, this place has been around for 150+ years and it's known as the place wes anderson likes.

I've been there a few times but it was before the fire and I'm not sure how much they lost.
Either way, it's an amazing place and I definitely recommend going! Obviously you have to be into that kind of stuff, but if you are, it's a must.

A fire? That's horrible.
Those polar bears, I want one. I have to visit this place.
And the lambs cuddling the black bear in the last photo, amazing.

I've been once, it was lovely. We have something similar in L.A. - Necromance. But more goth-themed.

I can just see somebody sitting in their parlor, smoking jacket and all, looking at their stuffed tiger,
"Mitzy, the old girl's getting a little... old. Don't you think it's time we gave her to charity and got ourselves a white one? And maybe a baby this time, too."

There is a place very similar to this in NYC called Evolution. You should check that out.

i spent a couple of hours in this shop last year. It was really amazing, especially the butterfly collections. there are also some great art shops a few doors down selling original, signed litho prints from MIro and countless other artists.

Last time I was in Evolution in SOHO NYC they had mostly smaller items like spiders and butterflies.

For more strange curiousities relating to the medical field, I'd suggest the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia: http://www.muttermuseum.org/

DARR: in Brooklyn NYC is an antique shop with a some taxidermy as well:

I know there is another small but good shop in NYC's east village but I cant recall the name.
