I used to spend every summer holiday in Vancouver and in Massachusetts visiting family, but now due to school and money I only make it to either one of those locations once every couple of years. This year it was my grandmother's 88th birthday (big year in Japanese culture) so I'm presently in Vancouver celebrating with family. I've also done a fair share of shopping. I forgot about all the great thrift stores in Vancouver and the surrounding areas. Below are some finds, every item was under $5!!! I'm pretty familiar with the area, but if any of you know of some good stores let me know!
Chanel purse, resin glasses, and crown ceramic dish from Steveston United Church Thrift Store except for gold composition book (from local dollar store). The Peony is from my grandma's back yard!

| ART IN THE AGE OF MECHANICAL REPRODUCTION |

So my friend Jaimie told me about this place a little while ago, but i re-came across this place when doing research for another blog I write for. Thought Oktavia would appreciate it more. The actual store is located in Old City in Philadelphia; Jaimie says it's expertly curated. Here's their website.

For any of you in New York City, can you think of anything I missed that's just AWESOME for summertime fun? And for those of you NOT in New York City, what do YOU do to keep yourself (cheaply or otherwise) occupied during the summer months?

| JAK & JIL (shoes)?!!?!?! |
[06 May 2009|09:35am] |
Can someone please defend the plethora of eye offending shoes from JAK & JIL blog? I have only seen a few pairs that I like, and even less that I would consider wearing. Maybe I'm missing something? Call me old fashioned but I prefer not to look like a fashion week furry.

( have fun )

Hi everyone. I would like to Introduce you to Leslie Hall:

My friend Genna introduced me to her... uh... work, last night, and I was immediately smitten. According to her website, Leslie "grew up near the first water tower west of the Mississippi. She truly grazed the fields looking for a home to shelter her truth. 'Art is breathing in a valley I seek it's pain. All my work is speaking a new language. Death to the sargent.'
After graduating from Ames High School Leslie went on to 4 years at the School of the museum of fine arts, in Boston. She is currently seek ways to make money but has not acomplised this. Please help in anyway you can.'
Not only does Leslie have what is quite possibly the largest and greatest collection of Gem Sweaters I have ever come across (she names each pattern), she is also an accomplished musician:
Her antics genuinely make me happy, and I think that that's worth a whole hell of a lot.
Check out Leslie and more of her stuff at http://www.lesliehall.com/

| Kiehls, again. |
[30 Apr 2009|09:28am] |
This stuff is amazing, and my rebuttal to Tate's Donna Karen Cashmere Cat Spray deodorant (yeah). It goes on clear, leaves no white residue (which is a huge plus if you go au natural, as in not shaving, as in hairy) and the smell is subtle but beautiful and refreshing. It also comes in a cute, compact package so you can carry it with you during the hot and sweaty summer months, or to slumber parties... or amusement parks. Oh, and it's antiperspirant, really antiperspirant.

These bracelets were created so parents can remind their kids not to do drugs "without embarrassing them". You can record your own personalized message and THE SOUND ADVICE PROJECT visualizes the sound waves of your message and turns them into bracelets! Think of all of the nice things you can say to loved ones. The bracelets are only 18$ and the proceeds go to non-profit organizations that help raise drug abuse awareness.

So Gap apparently did a "runway" show in London this season. It's basic, but affordable and I kinda like it.
