Well, today I reserved my room and booked my flight for G-Fest. This will be the first one I have ever went to and I am very excited about going.

Just seeing if anyone is still active in this community. I recently returned to LJ myself and am looking at all my communities. It's not Godzilla movies, but I did recently receive a 3 pack of Toho movies in the mail that I won on Ebay. The Mysterians, Varan the Unbelievable, and Matango. Watching the Mysterians right now.

So, Legendary Pictures was at the San Diego Comic Con. They were promoting a lot of upcoming movies. Guess what one of the promo images was.

I think I might cry. It's just that beautiful.

Now, obviously this is highly stylized and I have no idea if it accurately reflects the design Legendary Pictures is working with, but it is too awesome not to share.

Even better is that they had the shirt on a t-shirt that apparently reacts with webcams...somehow, to produce an awesome effect of Godzilla firing his flame breath and roaring. Here's a video:

I think it's safe to say Godzilla is in good hands.

Yesterday I was just randomly browsing the internet when I stumbled across something that immediately caught my attention.

It's quite possibly bogus, but supposedly what you are about to see is a maquette of the proposed design for Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2012 project, built to be shown to Toho for approval.

For all I know this is just some modelmaker's pet project, but I would dearly love to believe it's real. It looks a bit like the Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack designs got thrown in a blender with a splash of Nightmare Gamera thrown in, and seasoned with some dragon and wolf for flavor.

In short, it looks awesome and it looks like Godzilla. So, Legendary Pictures, if you're reading this: If this is not one of your proposed designs, then I hope you're at least thinking along similar lines.

A while back I heard a rumor. A rumor that made me happy, but it was only a rumor. Well, now it seems that that rumor has been confirmed:

Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to make a new American Godzilla movie.

Translation: "FUCK YEAH!"

The film is apparently set for a 2012 release, though no director, screenwriter, or cast has yet been announced. Really, I have no idea what to even expect. Nor do I even have any advice to the filmmakers other than the obvious:

I'm curious to see if my fellow fans collect G-stuff, too. I've recently put together a whole room for mine. Anyone else? This journal could use some content.

A little history is probably necessary before we begin.

It's no secret that I love giant monster movies. Nor, should I think, is it a secret that I have an affection for Gamera. What's not to love? He's a giant, tusked turtle that breathes fire and flies like a flying saucer. Don't try and logically figure out how he does that, or your head will explode.

You spin me right round baby, right round, like a giant flying turtle baby...Collapse )

I have a friend who has never seen any of the Godzilla movies, but is interested in becoming familiar with them. A couple of his other friends suggested either the first Mechagodzilla or Smog Monster films, but I don't necessarily agree with those choices. The thing is, I'm not exactly sure where I want to start him at. The original, of course is an obvious choice, but it is so very dark and bleak; I want his first to be something fun, that will make him want to see more. I have all the films, most in their original versions as well as American versions, so I'm not limited as to what I could show him.

What would you all suggest?

Oh, and as an afterthought - Smog Monster was the first one I ever saw, when it originally came out. 35+ years later, I'm still Godzilla-obsessed. Maybe that's not such a bad idea after all. ;)
